I just bought 2 fahrenheat 5000 watters for $182 each from Lowes. They are discontinued and they are going fast. I had to call Ohio and have them shipped. I found out that Plymouth Indiana and somewhere in Wisconson still have them. Just thought I would give anyone who wants one a heads up. happy shopping.

This is about the time of year I got mine for 199 from Blaines Farm and Fleet. It was either that or 229. 182 is a hell of a deal!

At $182 that is a very good buy. I just put two up in my shop. I looked around on the Internet, including the Fahrenheat, and could not find any information them being discontinued or not. I purchased mine from Blaines Farm and Fleet at, I think, the $229 price and thought I got a good deal. Much cheaper than the price I got from Graingers.

I have yet to really test mine since we have had nice weather the last 10 days since I installed mine and not much working inside the shop.

How big is your shop. how high are your ceilings. what are the lowest temps you've had for testing? Mine is 26 x 42 with 12 ft ceilings in Georgia.Virtually uninsulated. Low to mid twenties is about the typical lows for nights with 30's -40's for days. I think I will need 3. Opinions?

I only have 1 to heat about 1200 sq ft with 10 ft ceilings but I have real good insulation. I keep it at 60 degrees 24/7 and it runs about 25% of the time when the outdoor temperature is 20 to 35 degrees.

If I were you, I'd try 2 units and see how long they run.

I think they put out about !7,000 to 18,000 BTUs each, which is not a lot for a big shop. My building is 72x40 with insulated open ceiling and walls but only about R 7 or so in the ceilings; more like R-15 in the walls of the shop part. The walls are 15 feet high with the peak of the ceilng about 23 feet. I plan to put in a drop curtain to divide the storage part from the shop part, which is 32 x 40. I have a 100,000 BTU salamander heater. I am hoping that with the salamander heater and the electric heaters I can bring up the temperature on the cold days in the shop part to something workable (50s) and then maintain it with the electric heaters. I also am planning on putting in 4 ceiling fans to being the heat down from the open ceiling.

This is Nebraska so we get some pretty cold temperatures and this is not going to make the shop part into t-shirt tempertures, but I am hoping workable temperatures. At 9-10 cents per kilowatt rates, I am thinking about 50 cents per hour per heater, but someone can probably do more accurate math than my back of the envelope math. I only plan to run them when I am in the shop.

In contrast, I think the salamander heater uses about a gallon of diesel an hour. I got some more diesel yesterday, and I think it is about $4 in this area. I do not notice the smell (but it does smell, according to my wife) but I don't like the noise of the salamander. The electric heaters are very quiet.

If my calculations are correct, I would think 3 might work for your shop in Georgia. I don't know your electric rates in your area. I would also think a couple of ceiling fans would be helpful in bringing the heat down to floor level. People I talk to tell me the ceiling fans make a big difference. Plus, insulation and stoppage of any air leaks makes a big difference too.

Without a drop curtain and ceiling fans, my use so far probably is not real helpful. The day we installed them, it was in the 20s. Without the ceiling fan and the drop curtain, and with using the salamander heater, we had the building to about 50. With the salamander heater shut off, it appears the electric heaters were maintaining the heat.

Ask me again in a year and I can give you a better answer, but probably a bit hard to generalize from my situation to yours.

Wish you the best with your plans.

I just spoke to Lowe's customer service and it appears they can no longer get this heater. I called their 1-800 number and not my local store....too bad as I had my eye on this one with my recent garage build-out.

thanks Bookman, I too plan to separate my 3rd bay with a canvas tarp and use ceiling fans so sounds like we're thinking along the same lines.
I am hearing the same thing, Mr Pink, that they are no longer available. This one guy said he would keep looking and call me if he found anything. I'm in no hurry really, just wanted to jump on this good deal. Will probably now consider a King, possibly a little larger unit and just go with 2 instead of 3.

I have around 700 sq ft. It is great. I will say I wouldn't want anything smaller. My garage is pretty tight so it maintains the heat good. Heater hardly runs to maintain 45 deg. You crank it up to say 60deg ant it cycles on and off pretty often.

I checked Blains farm and fleet. They have the 5000w for $199 but say unable to ship. I bought my in early feb last year for 199. Blaine's still shows the 7500 w for 329. That's a pretty good deal as they are close to $475 if I remember. They say that those are still avail to ship. That would heat things up nice. !

I ordered mine today from Blaine's. You are right about what it says at their website but if you call them they do have them. I ordered mine, $199+9 for shipping! They also shipped it out today and emailed me the tracking number!

I was wondering about that. I might just try that. Did you go into the store first to ask them?

I checked with HD customer service online and they said they would only price match if it was available in my area, which HD does not carry in store, and they will not ship....... :(

I just ordered one from Lowes yesterday from the 1-800 number. The lady spent about an hour calling different stores and found a store with a display unit that I was able to score with a 10% discount off the $182 price. They even let me use my Lowes credit card to get another 5% off. We will see how it works once it arrives.

I just purchased one of these a few weeks ago on Amazon. I paid a bit more ($230.00) but I picked this particular 5000W model because it had excellent reviews and it actually heats my 525 sq. ft. insulated garage space with ease. Actually, I installed this heater (my first 240V project inspired by this site) in about 4 hours, a few runs to Home Depot and just a few new tools later..... all set!

I'm more than impressed with this heater. I decided to see how warm I could get my garage tonight. Sitting at 77 and I've had about enough already. Time to turn it down and go to bed.

I installed this heater last night in my 960sf garage. My walls are insulated with R-19 and ceiling with R-30. I performed a test this morning to see how quickly the temperature would rise with the heater on high. With the outside temperature of 20F in central ny, I am seeing the garage temperature rise approx. 5 degrees per hour. The temperature has risen from 37.6 degrees to 50.5 degrees in 2 1/2 hours. Although this seems a little slow, I will not complain at all about this considering the size of the garage and size of the heater. If I need to work out there, I can just plan on turning on the heater a couple hours in advance. I also have a propane heater if I want to heat it up quickly.

All in all, I am quite pleased with this purchase.

First, don't go to the Home depot store, they're clueless! Go online and call the customer service # 1-800-466-3337. You have to press 1, i think for orders. Tell them you are interested in purchasing a unit heater and want to know if they will price match Lowes. Give them the model # FUH54 and internet # 202043073. They will ask you to hold while they get approval from manager. It's free shipping, as well.

No store in my state (MA.) carries them so don't let them give you the "not available in this area" ****.

my attic is dry walled, but not insulated. It takes an hour and a half to raise the temp from low 40's to low 50's. I turn it on when I pull in from work, let it run a couple hours for dinner, kids, etc. Then it's warm by 8:30. I like that while not silent, it's pretty dang quiet and tolerable to work with. I don't run mine but 3-4x a month, so I can't tell you about cost to run. Electric would not be my first choice, but when it's the only choice, it's great! I really need to give my attic some insulation to give the heater a fair shake. It's a 20x24 with r13 in walls and r16 garage door.

I tried 2 reps and got the exact same thing, they would only match it if it was available in my area which there is none in the state, and I tried to dispute that but got a sorry, cant help you response. Awesome customer service. Even tried to push the customer loyalty thing..... but they would not budge
