Here's a couple older pics. Nothing special. Mainly pegboard and hooks.

Similar to mustangmccance's Tide idea, ever since they went to plastic coffee containers (instead of the old metal ones) I save them for storage. I usually buy the large coffee containers. They have a durable lid, and a molded handle. They stack nicely on top of each other, or sit on a shelf.

I also use the same containers for painting. Much nicer to carry a small amount of paint for trim work.

I have only viewed my way half of this post and holy $!@# I am soo HOME!! Just to throw in an idea unless it has not been covered, has anyone ever tried using baby food glass jars for fastner storage? The idea my dad used was taking the lids and zipping a couple screw through the bottom of the lid into the bottom of the 2x4 . There were like 7 or more spaced shelves so he could put things on the top part of the 2x4's .

Currently I am working on my idea for a shelf system in my man cave and really glad I found this place! So far I have 2 12ft x 2ft x 4ft timbers and one leftover 22inch x 8ft piece of OSD. Now lol looking to see what I can manage with that.:headscrat

Another thing to do with the plastic coffee cans. I drill or punch holes in the lids to dispense oil dry, fertilizer or any dry (and sometimes wet) materials.

Here are some of my 'creations'. I love the tape measure holder. It works perfectly! The screwdriver rack works okay but I need to make a lower guide hole "shelf".

Tired of stacking the wheels and tires on the ground, so I built some racks to get them up in the air. I can still park both cars under the rack, although the girlfriend's Jeep might have issues. It's cleaner now, I swear, this was right after building...

3850875983_88a2be570b_b.jpg

I've since added some supports to the top rack on the wall.

I have to admit, it still wasn't enough, I have two more sets on the ground under the big shelves...

Lots of great ideas here, that I hope to use next time I upgrade (renting here, hopefully buying soon!)
nice tire racks, i might have to try the double stacking

My only, semi unique, storage ideas.

BMW wheel used to store the air hose.
HPIM2501.jpg

How does it spin? does it spin around the one long bolt? Seems like it would be a bit lopsided if that was the case??? not criticizing, just want to know because I really like the idea!

Seems to me that it wouldn't spin at all and that you would just roll the hose up and hang it on the wheel. :dunno:

Hi,
I have to put up some Quantum Storage system shelves on my garage walls. I am using some cantilevered Arms that convert roll around shelves to wall shelves. You can see them here at this PIC:

CB14-2.jpg

So I am wanting to mount a 2x4 about 48" long or something like that to my walls. Then mount the brackets to those and hang the shelves on the poles as shown.

I have Concrete Block construction finished with sheet rock. I attached a pic of that. Looks like a small furing strip is used to hang the sheetrock on 24" centers. I can find these with a stud finder. From the concrete block to the outside of the sheetrock is 1 1/4".

So I have 2 scenarios, one where I can use the furring strip, and one where I can't use the furring strip because of spacing.

How to proceed?

Mohawk Dave-- you say nothing special, but it looks like you took one of those wire closet shelves and installed it up side down. That gives a nice "keeper" lip on the front edge, and is a neat idea.

I haven't seen that before, but I can think of several places I could use it!

Thanks,

zuk

...One of my first posts here in the journal boards..

I recently refinished my garage and added a bunch of hi-bay fluorescent fixtures (220,000 lumens in there!), 9 20A outlets, 2 40A welder outlets, and most importantly, my race wheel/tire storage over the garage door rails.. So I guess technically this isn't on my wall, but on my ceiling rather..

It's out of the way, and will allow me to put 10-12 245 section width wheels/tires (give or take 24" dia) up there before I reach the weight limit (4'x8' shelf rated at ~600lbs payload). Found them online through a company called MonsterRax - They're pretty reasonably priced. I actually bought a "factory second", called for longer mounting brackets (52") and had it all shipped to my house for free as it's included in their price.. $200 for a shelf like that, that wasn't really a factory second at all?! Hell yes!

And just for kicks since the pictures of the in-garage lights don't do it justice... :D

Indeed! Not much going on at work as I wait for some material, so I spent a lot of time in this thread reading. I'm not new here since I joined about 6 years ago, but I joined, then forgot all about this forum so I would say I'm new again.

What's on my walls right now? Cobwebs.

I just took pictures today of my mess. It is a terrible mess. I told my wife when she said she wants to put the new car in the garage that I couldn't fit a powerwheels car in the garage, LOL. I spent some time cleaning up tonight, but I don't have heat out there, nor very much light since I can't keep a bulb running more than a week. So, I have to be content with reading more of this thread and wait for some warmer weather to transform my garage. Thus, I am reading this thread for some ideas. I hope to post up some transformation pictures in the spring from a packed full (mostly junk at that) to completely bare floor and everything up in cabinets, shelves, and hooks.

Enclosed tilt bins and put spacer blocks behind the shallower ones so that they are flush in front. I love these things. I recently doubled the amount of bins and am still running out of bins.

It sounds like you need to start a new thread and post a couple pictures.

Tilt bins are available from different vendors on the internet. Check out global industrial or amazon.com. Just search on tilt bins. They are about $15 for a row.

Thanks for this! Just ordered 4'x8' factory second MonsterRax for $200 shipped.

I need to get lumber scraps off the floor and was looking for an overhead solution that could handle a good amount of weight. Most of the big-box store offerings are rated for 250lbs max. The MonsterRax 4'x8' is rated for 600lbs. Should be perfect for getting those extra 2"x4"'s and scraps of plywood off the floor.

I'll add one idea. On the farm we kept an old refrigerator that didn't work in the barn. The door switch had been rewired or maybe the light socket itself, either way the light bulb stayed on all the time. The heat of the bulb combined with the insulating of the fridge was sufficient to keep the paints and such from freezing.

Might work good for some of you guys trying to get such things out of a garage.

My dad has had a pair of old non-function fridges in his barn/shop as long as I can remember. It's an old haybarn, with a dirt floor across most of it, so moisture was an issue. He used the fridges to keep welding rod (mostly) dry and stable, but also any other specialty tools or things that would be sensitive to moisture. They work great for that as well.

I have as much on the walls as possible. I also try to have everything I can on wheels and those things that cannot be mounted on wheels can be moved with my pallet jack.

Cheers guys.

Johno; The mill is a Jungner VF600. I have more info on it here:

My blog

WhoWhatNow; I came across the cart at Ikea recently after turning down 2 Hazet trolleys. I did a review on it here:

Poor Man's Hazet Tool Trolley

My garage is coming along. I have tried to keep it as functional as possible and as cost effective as possible. My machines have been bought broken and have been repaired. This has really helped keep the cost down. I may do a thread on it... When I get some time.

Paul.
