What's the drawer weight capacity (Whalen site doesn't say)? Can you wiggle the drawers for us and tell how much "play" there is? (My un-scientific approach to testing boxes and benches).

that stuff is nice, but not very deep. Keep that in mind when you compare to other tool carts that are almost twice as deep.
I crawled all over one of these at Costco a few weeks ago and was ultimately impressed. The drawers were smooth operating and stable. Don't know the weight limit but they were pretty decent. The casters were good. The cabinet door felt a tiny bit flimsy, but not so bad it turned me off. Really, for that price, a very nice thing. I wanted a bit different drawer size layout so went with one from Strictly Toolboxes.
I had just been by a Harbor Freight that had a very large display of their tool boxes and cabinets in just about every combination I could imagine, and I found all of them junky and a real disappointment. This Costco one was far nicer than the HF junk.

I don't own the HF box, but they seem pretty nice to me. Still, it's kind of refreshing to hear a negative opinion for once since HF boxes are so revered by 99% of GJ members.

I know, and I was truly disappointed when I was able to get to HF and check out the boxes. But, they were junk.
And yes, I realize this makes me a pariah here. Those HF tool boxes are held in reverence by many.
I bought this unit a few months back for $499 at my costco. I was planning on buying the HF 44" as well until the whalen 72" caught my eye.
It's on par with the HF 44" imo. Big drawers have double slides. There is some wiggle in the wide drawers which is to be expected at this price point. But over all the quality isn't bad. It's a good looking cabinet and cleans up nicely with a wipe of some WD40.
It sure would have been nice if they would have put some more drawers on the right side instead of the lame door storage area. But all in all, I can't complain. For the money it's hard to beat. I was thoroughly impressed with the HF box as well. But Stainless is so damn ****. Plus you get a nice workbench top.

Perfect for my brickshit house power tools: miter saw, circular saw, drill press and all whatever i got that are all cluttered everywhere in the garage.. Perfect place to put them on top of workbench!

This was $529 in 2011, Costco has had these for a while and they're always seemingly decent priced, though I've been away from Costco for the last 4 years. There's more info in that thread as well.

The only issue I have seen (and its minor) is that the drawers don't fully extend, they are 1-2" short of full extension. I would definitely buy one again and may eventually consider a second one.

$499 here in socal. I've had it for a while now. I actually don't mind the side cabinet... its come in handy for my pancake compressor and accessories. what bugs me the most is 2nd drawer from the bottom in the middle. it's deep and wide enough to hold a lot of stuff, but its only single slides on each side so it shows when you load it up. the bottom drawers are fine loaded with double slides. I've considered adding extra ball bearing slides on the drawer... in fact one could probably swap the sliders with higher load rating and full extension. but those things haven't bothered me that much.

This one stayed in dust in my local costco for long time. Nobody bought it since it looks like a woman's kitchen bench.
They are held shut with friction, and lots of it. A metric crapload to be precise. It is my biggest gripe. Not that I use this toolbox all that much, but I've had it a year, and the drawers don't seem to be breaking in much. I have the box up against a wall, and I have to push the drawers hard enough to loudly knock the entire box against the wall to close the drawers. If it wasn't against the wall the drawers would never close because I would be pushing the entire box around the garage...in circles.
Just to be clear, the slides move in and out nice and smooth. It's that last inch before the drawer fully closes that I have to ram it home. Of course you can't lock the box unless all drawers are fully closed.
I had this problem in the beginning too. but the problem went away within the year on the drawers I use frequently. maybe I just use my drawers more than you? it does eventually get better. my drawers are also very heavily loaded.
Take out the drawers and wipe all the grease off the slides. I sprayed mine with Dupont multi-purpose lube. Night and day. Drawers slide freely and it takes far less force to "lock" them in.
Did anyone else's cabinet come wrapped everywhere but the face? WTF?

I've seen that one. build quality seems decent, but I like the drawer configuration of the Costco one better.

it is. its definitely not T304.
It's 430 i believe. Said on the box.

Nope! Made in the US of the highest quality stainless steel by union sheet metal workers in Manhattan making more per hour and with better benefits than your physician working 32 hours per week, shipped to your local Costco (purveyor of fine domestic goods) and sold for $499.
