I am putting up a 54' x 72' x 12' ceiling building. It is a car barn for projects and family hangout. I want it to be daylight bright. I've decided on the T5 HO lights.
Questions;
How many bulbs per fixture? I was thinking 6 bulb fixtures
What spacing should we use for no shadows and for detailing the cars?
What wattage and lumens for the best quality of light given the above requirements?
Thanks for the help. Cap

Don't let the fact you want to detail cars effect your lighting layout, for detailing you really need to use a high powered stand light aimed at the car to blast any shadow away.

As far as spacing, find out want you want for ft candles, then have a wholesale house that you'll buy the fixtures from design a layout for the building to give you the light output you want.

Thanks Gooch!
I was really wanting input from forum members that "have been there - done that".
My experience from salesmen that have no "skin in the game" has not always been positive. But I do appreciate the input. Thank You! Cap

Hello

I'm going with the t5 2 bulb fixture

my shop is 36x54x12
the Warm side is 36x30x12 with the white metal ceiling
Reasons why We went 2 bub
cost of fixture
cost of bulbs
(granted the bulbs may out live me)

will set them up two fixtures in a row on one switch so I can have 1 row on or all lights on

not sure on placement yet but we ordered 7 fixtures (Why casue I order 15 bulbs what would I do with 3 extra if i had 6 lights)

at home depot you can order the bulbs by the case of 15 for around 6$ per bulb verses the 9.98 on the shelf (t5 HO 54W) free ship to home

Thanks pattenp...I'll study it. There's still time to change my thinking. I'm really struggling on the lighting issue and the spacing.
I've worked for a building like this for 20 years and I really want to get it right. I'm not rich but my dream has come alive.
