Get some sk's. Are aren't too expensive and they are well worth the money. No point in fooling around with craftsman anymore IMO.

I'm looking at getting some flare nut wrenches myself. I'm leaning towards SK, but anyone got any other quality recommendations? wonder how the GearWrench ones are. I don't use them enough to make SO or Matco worth it, and I'm afraid the craftsman ones (asian) will spread.

I bought a set of the Craftsmans and later realized they were China. Have worked fine for how little I use them, but if I hadn't destroyed the packaging, I would've returned them.

If you're buying China, find a cheaper set. If you want excellent quality, shop around for a good deal on SK, Armstrong, Williams, Proto, etc.

Be pragmatic and follow his advice. That's why I've nearly cut off any new Cman buys. Same stuff can be had cheaper.

I have a set of Macs at work. I don't like how they feel, but they do the job.

I have a set of the gearwrench flex heads. They work fine for me

I know they're not made in the USA, but I bought Gearwrench sae and metric sets based on reviews. Many compare them to Snap On quality, but at a much lower price. I haven't had a need to use mine yet, but they look great! I've been very happy with all off my other Gearwrench tools, so I don't plan on any disappointments.

I have that set but I got them before they went to the China man. Unfortunately I broke one of them and had to exchange it and the replacement was a China wrench. Huge lobster claw on the China wrench and I had problems particularly on tight power steering lines getting the wrench over them because of the lobster claw. I would look elsewhere to be honest. If you could come across a USA set then go for it, but if it's a China set I would pass, they are not the same even though they are the same part numbers.

Reviews say they're Chinese made. I'd say make a point and look elsewhere, no need to ship your dollars overseas. You can either buy these, or, as others have said, go for a different brand altogether.

The 9 pc RP are still us made. You can buy the missing 16x18 on eBay, Allen branded, from Cripe.

I have a set of RP Cmans in both SAE and metric that I used for years. They have worked perfectly fine, except on really badly rusted fittings, which usually get the vice grip treatment and get replaced anyways. A couple years back, I lost my 10-12mm wrench, and couldn't find a replacement at Sears. All I could find were sets of the fully polished ones made in China.

I kept an eye out at yard sales, auctions, CL, and flea markets but couldn't find the wrench I needed to make my set whole again. In the process of looking, I did stumble across a used set of SOs in metric that I ended up buying. The price was reasonable, and they are now my go-to line wrenches. I have to admit, they are nice, and do seem to fit a bit tighter than the Cmans.

Although I have not used the Cman polished Chinese set, I would recommend keeping an eye out for a used SO set. I got my SO metric set for $60.00 (5 like-new wrenches). I have since collected an 8 piece SO SAE set as well. CL is your friend.

I got the 1990's vintage Craftsman Pro (USA) flare nut wrenches on ebay for $35 a set. Just keep looking and you'll find them. It's worth the wait to hunt a USA set down in my opinion. The case they come with is as good as the tools. Everything is top notch (not like the junk they sell today).

Bingo /\ - Just a month a ago there was a guy selling brand new (NOS) USA made CMan Pro flare wrench sets. I got both the SAE and Metric 5 piece sets for $30ea plus shipping. These older USA made CMan Pros were made by SK.

ive had poor luck with craftsman raised panel flare nut wrenches.

sk that ive had didn't seem to fit well, but the blackhawks were great, id go for them myself they are longer and fit very well.

also belive in the snap on ones ive used they seem to have the best grip next the the blackhawk wrenches ive used.

the older napa brand wrenches were good as well, dad has them and they work nicely.

I've had my current sets of SK's for about a year.

Very happy in every respect and I've put them through their paces and then some.

Like others have posted, skip the chinesium ****, buy a US set for less than you might think and enjoy using them for the rest of your days

this is one of the areas where there really is a difference between SO and C-man.

I have the C-man and they are ****.

I have been acquiring over time the SO series where one end is box and the other is open-don't get the "speed" jaws.

I bought a used Snap On set here on GJ a couple years ago and they just feel great using them.

Like others have said, keep searching, you'll find some good deals on what you want.

Get one single Snap-on flare nut wrench to fit your vehicle. No need to buy a whole set unless you're a pro wrench.

I have to agree, I didn't plan to get the SO flares but they came in a box with some other stuff i bought. I've been up and down with SO, but whenever I use these (a lot lately I hate it) I'm always real glad to have it. My metric ones are Matco and they're good too, but the SO is just a real nice thing.

I bought the Craftsman raised panel set last year, didn't like the fit of them. Returned them to Sears and bought some other goodies. It was asked earlier in this thread if anyone owns and uses the Gearwrench flares. The fit of the Gearwrench flares is far better in my opinion compared to the raised panels that I returned. I'm speaking specifically of KD 81906 & 81907 6pc sets from GW.

Anyone ever used the Williams or compared them to Snap On? Finish is different, sizing is different, price is VERY different.

I recently got the newer S (dot) K superchrome set. At first I was disappointed, because the fitment was not as tight as a few older S-K flares. They also didnt fit as well as my Taiwan Sunex crowfoot flares. But when I looked closer, the new SK superchome actually is using their off-corner engagement geometry while my older SK and the Sunex are hexagons.
