Can anybody identify this vise?........ its looks like a old chase parker but I can'nt find any parker ads with this vise....... Thanks for the info..

I have one that looks just like that, if I tell you what it is will you sell me that round ring thingy on the bottom with all the notches in it It looks just like my Samson except for the nut on the bottom. Mine is missing the swivel stop plate and I really would like to buy one.

Well this is some old import vise I guess. Saw it at the flea market, guy wanted $100 for it. Too rich for a broke guy LOL. Unusual swivel jaw vise, note the little winged screw on one side to prevent it from swiveling.

If that is an Import, it's not an Asian/pacific rim import.

Looks to be an old portable black smith's vise/anvil combination, and he jaws at least are probably forged not cast.

I don't thing a C note was to much for that. It's almost certainly an antique.

Picked up this old USA made Craftsman on ebay for $52.00. Did I get my money's worth? I believe its a Columbian for Sears from the 1960s (Sorry for the large images, they are directly off the auction page) ...

Just an old Craftsman from Sears that I've had forever. Can't remember how the handle got bent - I'd like to replace it but not sure with what.

Thats the earlier one with the cool art deco handles. You won't get a "you ****" for that price but if you are happy with it the price is fine.

Yes I have one of those too, is yours marked on the top of the slide or the vise body?

I finally got around to cleaning, blasting, and the beginning stages of painting my Desmond Stephan Simplex 43P. I could not find a local paint shop to put a color match in a spray bomb, so I found some paint at a box store that is actually fairly close to the color that was first applied to the metal (not sure if that means it is/was the original paint or not, but that's what I went with).
Now it needs to dry for a few days before further painting. The flash makes it look "brighter" than it really is.

I have one, but doesn't have the swivel base like yours, just has a table clamp instead. Now speak of which, I don't even remember where I put it. If I ever find it, I will post a picture.

Totally diggin that green. I missed out on a bench grinder from Alcatraz that was "Alcratraz Green". I guess their whole tool shop was painted this one color, and I think I may find it and start that in my shop. I already got a "Oops" gallon of some mint green close to your vise color and it looks bitchin matched with dark espresso brown. I breathed new life into a $30 work bench. The brown for frame and the mint green for doors...

I have two of the Stanley clamp on vices like that, a 1920's or 30's 765 (Original paint!) and a "newer" late 60's 745 that I gave to my daughter for her jewelery making.

That swivel base appears to be a Panavise swivel, or a knock off.

Is there a Stanley logo on the end of the slide? Does it have a S.W. inside a heart shape?

Hi Dave. Thanks. I really wanted to have a paint shop color match, but they did not do the spray bomb thing. Surprisingly, Lowe's had some that was close. The color is:

Valspar 85084 Satin Leafy Rise

The Valspar spray nozzles ****. The name sounds like it is aimed toward desparate housewives who are repainting their outdoor planters. Alcatraz Green sounds much more manly, HA. Regardless, I think it turned out ok for my first vise refurbishment. I did learn a lot and will be better at the next one. I'm gonna let the paint dry over the weekend and then begin unmasking the taped off areas and doing the clean up of the slide. I should be able to have it all back together soon, and will post pics when that happens. I am looking forward to using this vise!

Where can I buy a can of that stuff?

Rumor has it that you can buy it from a Snap-On truck, but you might not know the country of origin. I also think you can buy it from amazon under a variety of rebranded trade names. You might also look on craigslist, perhaps someone is selling a half used can.

I've had this one for a while.

I assume this is some sort of blacksmith vise, but one that mounts to a bench instead of being on a leg?

I can't find any sort of casting indicating a maker. 3.5" jaws that open to about 5". The anvil and horn are about 12.5" long.

I've seen similar vises online but usually the anvil is perpendicular to the jaws. In this case they're parallel to each other.

Clamped it to a bench for photos so it's leaning a bit in this next picture:

Does this star suggest who the maker might have been?

It's in rough shape. A few cracks in the base below the anvil and part of the back of the anvil is cracked off. Really just a display item at this point.

Sears 506.5182.

Got this one for free at some point as "it wasn't working". You had to push on the dynamic jaw to get it to close as you cranked. I took it apart and found that a nut either had been installed backwards and/or wasn't in a groove to hold it in place. It's been so long I don't remember. Took care of that and it works fine.

This vise has Taiwan stamped on the bottom of the swivel base so as far as I know it's not a made by Columbian vise like earlier 506 Sears/Craftsman vises.

Here's another freebie I got. Fuller 3.5" with Japan stamped below the swivel base. I think there are a couple more of these in this thread.

If it's close by and you really need it why not? I got the same vise last year at a tag sale for $5 but you might not find that. they are well made vise for light duty, so, even though the jaws are 3-1/2'' that's a small vise, you are not going to do much heavy work with it. Take a look at the 4" Yost a bunch of us just got, only 1/2" wider jaws but 57 pounds and much greater work holding capacity. We got lucky, they were only $90 but you can find used vises out there or a lot less than their list.

I'm taking my Dunlop and mounting it to an old truck rotor for a portable vise.

My opinion: I would consider $20.00 a retail price for that vise here in Southern Indiana. You can look at similar vises on ebay to get some price ideas. If there are no cracks, you can make the owner an offer. It looks like a good candidate for restoration.

That's a decent vise for a homeowner level vise. I think the price is about top dollar, but if you need it, that's fair. I won't pay that much, but I have a bunch of those already, so can afford to be picky...

This weekend's project. Its almost done, this Wilton Cadet was made in Jun 1971. I bought it on CS this week and took it completely apart, repainted and greased. It should be finished tomorrow once I straighten one of the swivel bolt bars (not sure of the real name). It should look good on the new work bench.

Probably not a date, but a casting /mold number.

Why did you mount the vise so far back from the edge of the bench? It's normally best to get the static jaw to or just past the edge so that a tall part can get past the edge of the bench.
