Finally getting into my own thread. My new wife and I are building our first house and I talked her into a 3 car :bounce: Ive been inspired by so many threads on this forum I cant wait to get started on it

Its a 28x20. I have plans for the corner to the right of the water heater which is approx 132 inches to the corner which leaves just enough room for a 96" workbench and a 36" cabinet. I have drafted out a not to scale workup of the basic layout. I work tommorrow and will hopefully start painting the walls on tuesday. I had initially hoped for enough $$ to do a nice flooring option, but its not in the cards, I will have to wait on that one

So I'm learning now more that ever that there are most def not enough hours in the day, and Im not even raising kids yet.

Among other things in the rest of the house, I was able to get the main door opener installed, attic ladder installed, and the first can of paint up on one wall. I WAS going to do an airless sprayer, but in the interest of time and money, and manpower, I decided to try and roll it. My buddy at the paint store gave me a nice wooly roller head, but im going to have to trim in the lines by hand. I would def do the sprayer if I did the block over again.

Curious what country you're in and climate (hot or cold) . . . as the cement block construction on brand new building is unusual??

Did you design the garage from scratch and build . . . . or taking over existing house??

Plan on skinning the wall with wood furring strips / insulation / and sheetrock?? Other plans??

He is most likely in USA, judging by the blue plate I am assuming Indiana or Virginia

Florida, the blue tag on the Benzs is a collector or antquie tag. The 2 newer cars are green and gold/yellow whitch are florida tags. Florida in some areas has stupid rules on homes due to hurricanes.

What is the nap on your roller cover? I usually prefer a 1 inch nap or 1 1/4 nap. The trick is to keep the roller moving fast just make sure to use tarps because it will spatter.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Dubber: the Tiguan is nice, like a plus sized gti IMO , I've heard some negative things about them from the tech's about quality , but this one has been A+ for almost 2 years now.


I am indeed in Fl, and the exterior walls of this house are block, I don't think so much for hurricanes as much for R-value. One of the incentives from using our builder is very good efficiency ratings and low electric bills in the summer. The block section that you see is the bump out for the 3rd car and is exterior wall. In future pics you will see where it turns into Sheetrock and frame.

The Benz is a W114 1971 250 Low original mileage, Great cruising car. M130 engine with 4 spd auto.

I double checked the nap on my roller, it only appears to be about 1 in, I don't think I've ever see a roller with nap 1.5 inches. That's like a wookie roller!

When painting cinderblock you need at the very least a one inch nap wool roller cover, the trick is to keep the roller loaded with paint. I prefer 1 1/2 nap roller cover but they can be more difficult to find. Another trick is to keep the roller moving fast, it will spatter but once you get the hang of it you will realize how easy it actually is.

Word on the Tiguan;
My wife has a white gold 4motion Tiguan with 18" OE Daytonas.
Yours looks like almost the same configuration.

I finally have something new to add here. My timetables after the move got all messed up, then the "shop" side got filled up with ****, and then.. and then.... I'm sure we all know how these things go. Anyway, I finally had some hours to set aside and get the shop side started. I originally wanted to do a really nice epoxy floor, but after moving in we needed that money to do other things so I needed an idea for a nice floor that I could essentially do in sections. VCT seemed like the best choice. This stuff was off the shelf from Lowes with matching adhesive. Lady charged me like 45 cents ft/sq :beer:

Now I need to finish out the trim paint, put up the wall base and hopefully can start on the workbench/cabinet setup

Looks sharp. It will look really sharp once you get that base finished. Will you be adding or mounting anything to the painted walls?

yeah there will be cabinets mounted above the workbench like in the picture, Im actually going to Ikea hack them.

And eventually I would like to find some nice vintage racing prints, le mans/monte carlo type stuff. time will tell

With that nice dark background on the walls of the single stall, some vintage prints will look nice. A three-pointed star might look cool, too. Or, brushed aluminum letters like I have...

Nice job with the VCT tile and the wall colour. I was hoping you didn't give up this cause.

Some vintage prints, nice and simple would look awesome in there. :thumbup:

Nope I never give up! Our baby boy is due any day now, so Im looking at some time off work, and hopefully that will leave some time to keep plugging at it :beer:
