The wifes "garage"

Since I am finally getting my 30x40 garage that I've been planning for 2 years I thought it was only fair that the wife got her own space. A little background. When we moved from NH a year and a half ago we moved from a large 2 story 3 bedroom farmhouse with a 3 bay garage and a large barn to a small 2 bedroom single story house with nothing but a carport and an old badly leaning "smokehouse". Our kids are grown, gone, and have kids of their own so downsizing was a sensible move to make. But.. as you all know we all need to have our own space to pursue our hobbies and it's especially important when you're retired and under eachothers feet 24 hours a day. So after letting her decide just how much space she thought was enough to pursue her love of quilting and sewing we settled on this. We shopped around and found a 10x16 "storage barn" locally for $1800 delivered and bought it. I built loft areas for storage on both ends and wired it for lights and outlets. Found a deal on some flooring on craigslist from a guy who used to have a flooring company. A couple of Walmart folding tables, a desk from a thrift store & some pegboard and she is "as happy as a witch in a broom factory" as they say on that TV commercial... Considering my garage is costing right about 10 times what her sewing studio cost AND she is ok with that I think I did pretty good.. She must like it. I haven't seen her in 3 weeks..

My wifes passion is virtually the same, quilting, sewing and embroidery. We had cut her out a space in the main shop when the negoaiting the project. Have been working recently to finish "her room". Much to do yet, but it's underway and that's a positive.

I may be unexpectedly inspired by your post. I did not realize they would "disappeared" if they have a cave... or should I say a NEST..... to warm. Although we will share the same roof, it's good to have our own spaces.

Looking forward to what evolves in your build. It's looking good so far.

I did the exact same thing, I don't have any pictures yet but I will get some. We call it the womancave. Hers is finished so now I can finish mine that has expanded for the third time. I bought a bare bones storage building and now its insulated, paneled, and wired. I wish I put a floor down like yours I just use plywood and painted it, but she is happy and I'm happy. You did good.

My wife has a 50 x 60 craft building so full of stuff but she is happy! So I built me a 50 x 60 shop, only time we see each other is at supper!

Nice lookin area NH and one heck of a good price. I'm sure the wife is happy to have the space for her projects. What does she use to access the storage space up top? I didn't notice a ladder in the pics.

we built a 14 x 32 for nancy in the new shop. It shares forced air propane heat,AC, and hot/cold water,bathroom with my machine shop room (which is the same size).It shares nothing with the high bay area except a entrance door,this way the temp/humidity is controlled and there is no "garage stink".
Ironically,her room,the bath,and the furnace room are the only areas that were ever fully finished.

She's fairly tall and has a step stool out there and can reach pretty much everything that's stored overhead. It's mostly in totes and she knows which ones have which stuff in them.
