Looking for quality Angle wrenches but I dont want to spend a ton, since I dont use them all the time.

Tool truck guy was trying to sell V8 tools/Atd junk (even though hes a MAC guy. I guess he doesnt like selling expensive tools) But Id like to have Snapon or proto or even mac ones..

Ive got a bid on some vintage SO ones right now, but If I dont win them, are there any other brands i should look at, maybe a standard set from 5/16 or 3/8 up to 3/4, for around a 100 bucks?

Snap on are the best because of their angle. I have Mac in metric and proto in standard because they were deals I found first. Any old or current USA brand will be good.

I agree the snap on have different/better angles than the rest. If you only see yourself using one or 2 sizes try to get the snap on from eBay I bought a set but use like the 19 mm most commonly there are some sizes I probably have never used

As far as I know snap on and atd/v8 tools are the only ones that sell angled wrenches in a 30 and 60 degree angle. I am getting the v8 tool ones cause its a wrench designed for access, not strength. And 85 dollars sounds a heck of a lot more reasonable than almost 600 for snap on

I have both SK and SO angles. I like the SK better. They have a thin head and fit hydraulic fittings better. I find the SO too tight and simply won't go on. Their crowfeet do the same. I do not find the 30 degree end of the SO useful.

You are correct about the only makers/importers of 30* and 60* angled wrenches as far as I could find.

Be careful the V8 you're getting are not 15* and 60* NOS. Also look them over closely.

I owned Sk proffesional Polish style combo wrenches and the open ends always spread. Is that how their angle wrenches are too?

i have SO, mac and matco angle heads from 3/8" - 1 5/8"
my matco's are older versions, with the very thin head. i bought them for specific fittings, using them as a backup wrench on a fitting while removing a tubeline, where 2 thick headed wrenchs wouldnt fit.

I have never had a problem with anyof my SK wrenchs spreading including the angle wrenchs that are noticably thinner then a standard wrench.

What kind of stuff do you work on? Just trying to turn a tie rod adjuster on a BMW will make most wrenches besides a flank drive SO fail, even after heating them up. Using the SK's was like using a plastic tool. I sold the metric set to a new tech at the dealership, and kept the SAE set I had until I BROKE the 9/16" in half.. warrantied that one and sold the whole set on EBAY

I do still have large SK combos, 21, 22, 24 and stubby 21 and 22mm and never have a problem with them. I think in the smaller sizes they are more prone to spread

I bought a Matco SAE set new in '04 through the student program and used them on some injection pump fittings among other things. Seem legit...

I use them on hydraulic fittings mostly.

Boss has a set of Martin. They are great for the size and money. They are not snapon but you can't get a set of snapon that goes from 3/8-1 1/2 for 250$

Those Bonneys are sweet.. I should ask my Mac guy and his father about Bonney tools.. they both used to sell them along with proto and SK and MAC, all off the same truck, his dad gave up MAC but still sells whatever he can get his hands on, and I saw a box full of bonney stuff in the back of the truck.. I have heard rumors that this guy has BARRELS of old NOS tools in his garage and basement because he never kept his old tool trucks neat and would develop messy piles of tools that they would clean out of the truck every few years

I have Martin, Snapon, Mac, and Mit. I use my Martins every day. I only reach for my snappys when i need the different angle. I prefer the martins due to them being shorter and the handles are small but still nice and round. You can really get them in a tight spot.

Can't go wrong with the SK/Martin/Bonney SAE set from Epstein's, just got mine in today. Finding a metric set is a different story, happened across a brand new 10-17mm Snap On set on CL and got them for $135.00.

bimmer, you might want to watch for certain Matco angle wrenches.

I know Bonney made some stuff for Macto at some point, but didn't know they made angle wrenches for them until recently. Snagged a Matco 15mm angle that is indistiguishable from the same Bonney - other than the stamping. Just an FYI.

I was a Matco dealer from 1990-1993, and I never knew Bonney made their wrenches. I have a set of their SAE angle wrenches from 3/8"-1 1/4", and several sets of their combination wrenches. The box end isn't as thin as Snap on, but they are nice wrenches.

I always appreciate the discussions, but this thread is almost two years old. Hopefully, bimmer has found a happy conclusion with this. LOL
