Amazon - Add On

Amazon has started a new (at least to me) "add on" program. The way it works is like this...Unless you spend $25 we're not shipping you the item. Period. No ability to override, or purchase under any circumstances. Don't believe me...give this a shot.

Try to buy that wrench. Can't do it without spending $25. Charge me the extra shipping, or whatever, but saying you can't buy it for any shipping rate unless you spend $25 with us is rediculous.:soapbox:

The irony...

I can buy a bigger cheaper wrench and they will send me this one. Um...? :headscrat

So the long story short, unless this policy is changed, I am going to look elsewhere for my online purchases. In this case I am choosing Tooltopia.

If I'm reading Amazon's description correctly, they are only offering this wrench for sale to make it easier to get small orders up to $25 to qualify for free Super Saver shipping. Personally, I think it's a good idea, but think an even cheaper item would be better. I have bought from Amazon quite a bit and always take advantage of the free shipping and have often times had difficulty finding inexpensive items to add on. What ***** is wanting to purchase something that is $24.99 and is still 1 cent shy of the $25 minimum. Searched for an hour once before just emptying the cart and forgetting it!

I know, pay annually for Amazon Prime and don't worry about shipping charges. Sorry, totally free shipping works better for me.

I love amazon prime, mostly because its two day shipping and there's no minimum. So forget about having to wait to hit $25 bucks in your cart. I don't even use the cart anymore. I order what I want, whenever I want and it shows up at my door 2 days later. I had like 3 amazon boxes show up last week.

I'm with you. Amazon is one of my favorite companies thanks to this kick-*** business model and ease of my experience as a customer. The Prime subscription fee is the best value-per-dollar subscription I have ever had!

It's all good, I kind of figured it could become an Amazon love fest. Until I had this experience, I liked Amazon as much if not more than any other online store.

My frustration is one of simple logic. You'll send me two combination wrenches, but not 3? Doesn't make any sense. Now that I've just received my new wrenches from another vendor, this policy makes even less sense. they just wrapped them together, and put them in a poly mailer...presto...wrenches to my door.

From Amazon
(1) 18mm combo wrench...$5.28 + $5.58 shipping

or

(1) 9mm combo wrench...$6.44 + $5.58 shipping

or

9mm and 18mm combo wrench...$11.72 + $6.17 shipping

but not

(1) 16mm combo wrench...$4.96 + Add On Item, shipping unavailable unless you spend $25.

So, exactly how hard would it be to throw that same wrench in with the other TWO wrenches you're already sending me. Especially when going from 1 to 2 wrenches the shipping cost increased by a whopping $0.59. Sometimes policy trumps logic. Because of the stupidity, I am going to try to limit or stop shopping at Amazon.

For all of you Prime memebers, does this membership eliminate the add on order? Can I then order 1 single item if I so desire?

No. If you choose an add on order item, having prime doesn't help. I tried to buy double sided tape this past week and it was treated as a add on (I have prime membership). Since I knew I was going to be using a lot of this tape, I solved the problem of ordering six of them which got me over twenty-five dollars. Then the prime membership kicked in and they shipped free.

I have prime, I paid the extra $3.99 to have it shipped next day air. It was a hitch that weighed over 100 lbs :)

In years past, I had them ship me odd ball stuff with prime, such as a $0.20 piece of shrink tubing, multiple times second day via prime.

I think they are wising up, but still if its heavy I can;t imagine just paying $3.99 via fedex or ups. They would charge me a arm and a leg.
