Porcelain tiles. Through body or glazed?

Hey everyone!

I'm about to pull the trigger on some porcelain tiles for my garage. I have been searching quite a bit on the subject but I cant find to much on the topic of through body or glazed. Will I be ok with a PEI 5 glazed or will I regret not spending the extra cash for the through body.

I do just about everything in my garage. Engine swaps, restorations, welding ect ect.....

Thanks guys. Like I said I did search and yes I found alot on porcelain in general but not much on glazed vs. solid.

You probably won't notice a lot of difference between the two. The through body is a better option. The install is where the real difference comes in. A good install will make all the difference.

Tile can be Thru Body as well as glazed. I know because that is the tile I have bought.
So Choices are ... Thru body or not and Glazed or not. This give you 4 combinations.

Thanks, guess I'm putting to much thought into this. Should be ordering the tile tomorrow then I'll start a new thread showing the remodel (floor, lighting, 4 post lift, high lift doors, welders, cabinets ect ect ect....)

I've never seen a through body glazed tile, I have seen color body glazed tile. I am not sure how you would make a glazed through body tile, or why you would make one for that matter. Not that it matters really.

If you find a glazed color body it will probably look nicer and cost less than any through-body tile you find. Because the body is close to the glaze color you would still get a lot of the benefits of the through-body but get the better looks of the glazed tile. Most through-body tile is pretty plain in my opinion.

My understanding is that the glaze is always on the surface. Thru body means a color only instead of while .

For glazed tiles, just make sure you're getting a good CoF otherwise you'll be installing a skating rink!

Wet Coefficient of Friction 0.61

A through-body can be pretty much any color, as can color body. From what I saw in your other post where you posted a pic of your tile it looks like a color-body glazed porcelain. So, the body of the tile is a color that matches the glaze on top. A through-body wouldn't have such a nice pattern on top like yours has. You have a glaze that makes the porcelain look like a nice stone, if it were through-body it would look much more bland.
