Primary pump confusion

Using the prebuilt Hydra Smart panels at Menards as a guideline, I built my own 2 zone system. The first zone will be in my 1750 sqft basement and the second in the garage. From all the pictures and display panels at Menards, I can not tell how the primary pump is wired. How does one wire the primary pump in a primary secondary system? In other words, how does it know when to come on? I will be using a Taco SR503 to control two zones and a Hydro Smart 170 micro boiler. Is there any communication between the SR203 and the boiler? Sorry for the newb questions.

Ayuh,.... Are ya usin' a primary pump, 'n secondary pump, or a primary pump, 'n zone valves,..??

If it's 2 pumps, the primary should be runnin' anytime the secondaries are...
If only 1 pump, it's gotta run, whenever a zone valve opens...

the 'boiler' you selected is flow activated .. use ** on your taco box to turn on primary pump

And I should have 120 volts at ZC when stat calls for heat?

Stat is wired to zone 1. Niether the primary or zone 1 pumps come on when the stat calls.

I don`t have the boiler wired yet, just getting all the wiring done and purging the system.

if the pump for zone 1 doesn't come on when zone 1 t-stat calls you've messed up your wiring .. power up and jump across the LOW VOLTAGE terminals for zone 1 .. if the pump comes on you screwed up the 24v side

I have switched relays. I have a new SR 503-4 ( http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1351150925280/85270_PROD_FILE.pdf ) sitting on my desk at work. I wired the 120 to the N and H and grounded. I power up and have 120 V at the N H, as it should be. Nothing anywhere else. (I do have the ZC to ZR jumper removed per the Tankless Coil Boiler Application diagram)

I hook stat to zone 1 and call for heat. I get 31 DC at ZC and ZR. Nothing at Zone 1.

Same at Zone 2 and Zone 3.

Am I supposed to be using some sort of relay to the primary pump? Why do the secondary pumps, 1, 2 or 3 not come on when heat is called for?

Does anyone need a picture of my system?

Q: What are the ZC and ZR terminals on the Switching Relay boards and how are they used?
Answer: ZC/ZR terminals on the SR board go to ZC/ZR terminals on the triple aquastat with ZC/ZR terminals, using minimum 14 gauge wires. These terminals will prioritize domestic water coil. When there is a demand for heat from the thermostat, ZR becomes hot, sending 120 volts to the triple aquastat. When the boiler temperature rises above the minimum temperature setting (typically 140°), ZC becomes hot, sending 120 volts to the SR board and powering the relay for the circulators. To recap, the circulators cannot run until the boiler is keeping up with demand.


Q: How do I run a system pump on my SR504/506?
Answer: Leave the jumper in between ZC ZR and tie the hot leg of pump to the ZR terminal. Tie the neutral leg of the pump to the neutral coming from your power supply. ZR (with jumper in) will put out 120V when any zone calls for heat.


So I need to leave the jumper in is how I`m reading this.

Was trying to go by the diagram on the box and the website.... bad idea apparently....
