Storing Spray Paint Cans

Is it okay to store cans of spray paint laying on their side? Will it clog the nozzles?
I would like to store them in a Rubber Made container but its not tall enough to store them upright.

Probably the best way to store spray cans is upside down. The feed hose goes to the bottom of the can and if the can is upside down and the paint thickens it will not foul the hose.

Side storing will not clog them as the valve is closed. It must be hard to sort or keep from rolling on their sides? I'd also be concerned about the nozzle depressing stored on sides? If you store latex spray- watch the bottoms as they rust through and explode with wet paint everywhere. I store mine in a cabinet.

With the new cans, the nozzes clog no matter what. New and improved just means I have to buy a new can for each project. Arghhh

I have stored mine on their side for years and have noticed no difference in the way they operate.

So you keep track of which of the 2000 cans you have were used in the last six months and shake those not used?

I have more trouble with storing them in my unheated shop.

I think I'll snag the next old fridge I find and put a light bulb in it for heat.

Toss 'em when their used. Buy them fresh when you need them.

It's one of those things where you'll save a bunch of partial cans and ten years later when you need them they'll be dried out or a crappy spray pattern that'll screw up your project.

I fill milkcrates and put them on a shelf. It's probably not the best way, but it works for now.

2 hose clamps on an old blade works just as well. I dont do it often, but when I really want a perfect finish, Ill do it. I also warm the cans in hot water. I seem to get a really nice spray pattern from them that way
