A couple new vises. A Wilton baby bullet and a Ridgid F50 with adjustable elevating stand. I took the baby bullet power arm stand apart and bead blasted it to start getting it ready for paint.

That is nice, thank you.
All the vises in the 970's model range are listed as 1930's n 40's.
Now I know there's a question mark after the dates but if they are from that time frame I'd go with a darker blue.
Definitely gonna bookmark that site though and I hope it stays up for a while.
Sadly a lot of the pics in the Practical Machinist 'vise squad' thread have disappeared.
The Internet may be forever but the content isn't .

The Wilton is the import one, WS6 model, with 6" jaw. I got it from northern tool about ten years ago, and it's had the crud beat out of it--I love it. It currently has a stripped out spindle nut. Priced the spindle nut, and handle from Wilton this morning, and they are reasonable so I'll order them. It's too much of a bad *** to not be in use.

The black one that is currently on the bench, I got in a trade, and it's a bad boy as well. It has a 5" jaw. Does anyone know what brand it might be? There doesn't seem to be any markings on it. I can get some better pics.

Ganymede,
After a thorough bath in min. spirits all the gunk that was coating it came off and revealed quite a bit of the original paint! I thought it was just rust and the paint was gone...turned out to be rusted gunk and the paint was protected by the gunk!
definitely Black and white (or cream) lettering

Was in one of my rat holes today, took a few pics to add to the collection here. First is a Rock Island 577 6" swivel base, other is a smaller Parker swivel base, swivel jaw.

Well he offered to sell me a Reed 103r for $85. I offered $65 and he said if it doesn't sell on ebay he would take $65. It's up to $106 right now with 4 days left. He has this one listed at a starting price of $25. Not sure if I want to risk bidding on it and loosing it or just buy it out right.

cvise.jpgHere is a Craftsman no. 506-51801 given to me by my father-in-law. Appliance epoxy black a little red for the lettering. Made up some soft jaws (copper) and put it to work!

I picked up this little vise today on Craigslist for $20. It's not huge, but I think I got a decent deal on it.

Just bought a Record 23 from down in Lancaster recently but a mate has it at his house at the moment. Not seen it to see how good it is but it was only eleven quid fifty so I can live with it if its not so good.
Besides I have more than I need anyway.

Where in Cumbria are you from?

Here's that Parker #300 all mounted up. Made its bench with a 4x4 in front and cut a wedge in it for the wierd base these things have. 1/2" bolts hold it down . Someday I'd like to give
It a paint job and new jaws .

How big do the lugs need to be? On this one its two, and yes, that is all that is needed if the Wing nut on the bottom is reasonably tight. Those on mine are about 1/8 of an inch or so high. you would have ot be really loose on the wing nut for it to slip.

Jaw pics will have to come later, I'm on the run just now, but I believe they are removable; they are flat, I can see the line, but remember, this one is a reed not the Prentiss you are looking at.

Both are around turn of the century, possibly older, as this swivel design was mostly if not completely supplanted industry wide by the early 1900's

My only issue with them is you have to have easy access to under the bench to loosen the wing nut. so and open bench design is pretty much required.

Love to see those pictures when you get the time...

anyone recognize this vise? Its at the farm auction that i will be going to tomorrow. Might bid on it if I can figure out if its worth more than scrap

Looks like a cheap import that's been ridden hard and put away wet. I'd pass at anything more than $1

It looks just like the Harbor Freight vises. Could be HF or another China clone.

The tip-offs are: thick cheap paint/bondo, thin cheap chrome on screw, angled rib "supporting" anvil, flat flip-over handle for swivel lock, and plate riveted to side of main body.

It has been abused, too! It might do for a welding table vise if it still works properly, but I wouldn't go over $15.00 even if I needed one for that. If the base is included, it may be worth what you are willing to pay for the base without the vise.

That's kinda what I thought. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. On a side not, I sold my Chicom Wilton the other day for $50 it worked well but had be rode hard.
