Starting restoration on my fourth Craftsman chest and two things have caught my eye. First, while sanding it down I could see the base paint was an olive green. Now I know from other vintage chest's some were indeed olive green during the 30's & 40's, but Craftsman?:headscrat or could it be a primer though I've never seen green primer? Second, the handle. All the Craftsman handles I've seen were rounded like the one below.:dunno: Any thoughts? (I know Outlaw is around somewhere)

I have a simular box, it has the older mostly blue logo of the same style, it has the rounded handles. I have seem alot of old craftsman tool boxes and I have never seen one with a plate that has the sharp points to it either, here is a link to one that looks original and very much like yours

Those rounded side handles were used on boxes built by the Advertizing Metal Display Co.

I don't recall if they made any boxes with the hinged front cover; that was Beach, Huot and MBC back in the day, maybe others. Look inside the drawers that has the logo on it for an impressed label in the drawer front.

MADC stamped their one name there and covered it with the Craftsman logo on the outside but it still shows.

I have one of those boxes...or at least very very similar. I'll check tomorrow.

But, check on the backside of the front logo of the lid, and, as Outlaw said, it should have Advertising Metal Display Co stamped into it.

Nothing. Pulled the 2 drawers out, checked the top tray, inside the box & out. I dont remember seeing any stampings on the '49 3 drawer either.

On yours, if it is there, it would be on the hinged cover, on the backside. From the front the Craftsman logo covers it.
