Here is a 1976-vintage Skilsaw 534 6-1/2" saw with its original box (date code # imprinted on box is "5WCW1" (first W is for Wheeling, IL assembly plant; CW is September 1976 date of mfg.) and the date code (see decal on handle) on the saw itself is "CW1" which of course means the same thing.
This is one of the few home-use Skilsaws with the 3-wired motor to get out with a dark gray painted metal housing. I found another '76 Skilsaw on eBay but its housing is brushed chrome throughout (and the date code on that example is CT2 where CT means June 1976), so the dark gray painted metal housing period couldn't have lasted that long since in November of that year the new-for-1977 models came out and they changed to 2-wire double-insulated motors and dark gray plastic housings.
