Kobalt Vs Husky Vs Craftsman Pro Wall Cabinets

I have been recently looking to remove all the old shelving in my garage and start replacing it with metal wall cabinets. I read numerous posts on GJ about the Craftsman Pro cabinets and the Husky but the majority of the posts were from years ago. I am trying to decide between the Craftsman, Kobalt and Husky cabinets. Home Depot and Lowes have them located about twenty feet off of the floor so it’s hard to gauge the quality of their cabinets. I prefer the looks of the Husky or Kobalt but ultimately the most important factor is the quality. Any input or advice from people who have owned any of the above would be greatly appreciated.

Ya i was looking at the Gladiator 30 inch wall cabinet also. I dont know if im a huge fan of the diamond plating on the front of them but they seem to be of decent quality. I might hold out until the next Craftsman Club Saver Days at the beginning of April and see if any of them are on sale.

Check out my site ShopStorageCabinets.com
Just now adding a line from NewAge Products that include diamond plated doors if that's what your into.
The Professional line is made of 18 gauge steel and the Bold line is 24 gauge.
The difference between what you find at the big box hardware stores is not in the steel gauge but how they are made. The amount of bracing behind the doors, the hinges, the interior features.
Anyway check out NewAge and let me know what you think.

I do like what you offer on your site but they are quite a bit more expensive than any of the other options i listed. Im not saying that they arent worth the extra money but just that they are more expensive. Maybe you get what you pay for, i dont know, and thats what im trying to find out.

Okay cool.. I saw those, but I thought I was looking for something called "Newage"... :lol_hitti

They are nice. Good buddy discounts? Shipping deals? :rocker:

NewAge licensed the Coleman name a couple of years ago. They are the same products. Check out the 24 gauge welded cabinets they are comparable to the Gladiator line in price.

I am looking at the Newage ones on the Costco website here in Canada and the individual cabinets are substantially cheaper. Is it just the volume they buy in or would they be getting a cheaper version of the cabinets? They look like the pictures of the Coleman ones and they say they are 24 gauge

Check out the Seville garage storage cabinets at Sam's Club... Nice steel cabinets at a great price... 24"W x 28"H x 12"D single door wall cabinets for about $60 bucks... 36"W x 18"D x 72"H two door cabinet will wheels for about $199.

These are powder coated with stainless steel doors that lock... They also have some decent rolling cabinets, a nice rolling cabinet/tool bench with butcher board work top and other accessories

Sorry, not the best pic...

I'm not a fan of the diamond plate on the Gladiator boxes either, but I decided to buy them anyway and couldn't be happier! I bought five 30" cabinets for under $100 each from Sears, which is a common sale price. They come assembled and are very good quality. Oh, did I mention they are even made in the USA?

I was planning on going with the Seville ones at Sam's, which I still think are a great alternative, but I'm glad I went with the Gladiator instead. I looked at the Kobalt ones, which look pretty good too (and also made in the USA). The Craftsman Pros felt really flimsy to me. Husky hadn't brought out their new line at that point, and I've never taken a good look at them.

I think that if i could get the Gladiators for around $100 bucks, i could get past the diamond plating. I dont hate the diamond plating anyways im just not in love with it either. We dont have a Sam's in my area so thats not really an option. I would really like to find an option where i could just pick them up and avoid shipping costs/shipping damage. I took a closer look at the Kobalt ones today and they do look good. I think it will come down to what goes on sale and i can get the best deal on.

I went with Gladiator too, but I patiently waited for all the sales, coupon codes, cashback deals, called for partial refunds, etc. I got the 30" cabinets for about $80-$90 each. The tall cabinets for under $200. They are very well built and I've been very happy with them. Have 5 of the 30" cabinets and 3 of the tall cabinets. The RTA stuff isn't bad either, but has less weight capacity in most cases. The welded units are just stronger in general. I also like the fact that you can shop an multiple locations to get Gladiator stuff (Sears, Lowes, many online places, etc.)

Don't have a single picture that shows all the cabinets, but here's one that gives you an idea.

Ya i do like the look of those in your garage. They go really well with all the stainless rollers you have. Do they hold quite a bit of stuff? The dimensions on all of them are pretty similiar, with the Kobalt cabinets being a little bit larger.

The gladiator 30" cabinets are pretty sturdy. I have one cabinet loaded up with batteries (heavy), chargers, etc. for all the various cordless tools and standard rechargeables. There is one I use to hold all my repair manuals for various vehicles and folders full of papers on maintenance records for all my cars and cars of friends/neighbors that i work on. So, that's not light either. There's another one that I use to store all my jack stands (4 pairs = 8 jack stands) along with a bunch of other stuff so that's pretty heavily loaded up too. One of the cabinets has shop towels, and misc. stuff so that one is lightly loaded. I've had the setup you see in the picture for almost 1 yr now and everything has held up great.

the tall gladiator cabinets, the welded ones at least, are also very strong. I have 5gal buckets full of paints, drywall compound, etc... not light at all, sitting on the bottom of the cabinets. was initially concerned if it might deform the sheet metal, but it's held up great.

i've come to conclude that the gladiator stuff, whether you like their "fake diamond plate theme" or not (and they are now making "white" cabinets too), are of high quality.

I like my craftsman wall cabinet, the steel and design is great, but im disappointed it scratches easily..

I sometimes wish I purchased some cheapo kitchen cabinets and painted them, that way if they scratched I can just touch them up.

I'll most likely buy more of the craftsman ones now though since I dont want to mix , I know it sounds stupid but thats my ocd :rocker:

I hear ya on the ocd, theres no way that i would be able to have a bunch of different brands of cabinets. Everytime i looked at them it would drive me nuts. Do you have the regular Craftsman cabinets or the Professional ones?

For what it's worth I recently picked up a large Kobalt cabinet for some garage storage. Easy to put together, looks nice from the outside.. fit and finish could be better though. Bit disappointed with that - doors don't close as nicely as I'd like.

I've been looking at New Age also...but frustrated that you cannot see them in person at a store. Pro series looks strong except I want to mount off the floor and they have nubs on the bottom for feet. Their website says buy them try them and return them if you do not like 'em. The shipping is usually free so I am ordering a box to try out.
Best Price?:
If you want NewAge I found that you can go to the Sears site and get them through "The Craftsman Club" or also as a member of the "Shop Your Way Rewards" program - Costs nothing to join and you get them cheaper than anywhere I have found once you place them in your cart. You will see a 10% off in the cart...at least for the time being. Hope that helps. I am in the same place you are!

Gladiator but wait for the sales. The tall cabinets were $150 each, so half off, and I got free delivery. I am sure they will run a sale around Memorial Day.

Resurecting an old thread:

Any updates on the cabinets. I am looking at the Red New Age 24 guage Bold Series at Home Depot and Sears. Sears wanted to match the price but when saw HD is out of stock they backed out, plus no free shipping and sales tax. The HD free shipping plus sales tax. The Garageappeal has them for $100 more but no Sales tax and free shipping thus far the best deal. I am looking at New Age Bold Series 10 peice cabinets at HD and 9 piece set at GarageApeal and Sears. Sears is out unless they don't charge shipping. The ship to store option is not available.
Any other help would be appreciated.

I'm very interested in this also. I'm between the Kobalt ones and the Gladiator myself. I like everything about the Gladiator except for the finish. My garage is battleship grey and my tool box and fridge are black so I think the Kobalt ones would look better. Does anyone have the Kobalt ones installed? What do you think of them?

My garage was much cluttered so I got tired of looking at it. The only thing worry me about the New Age is that I have not seen it in person here in Topeka. Good thing about it is that it comes fully assemble unlike Gladiator that you have to put together.

The Gladiator 30" cabinet assembly is welded - there is no put together. You open the box and mount it on the wall. That is one reason it is a great cabinet. Hard to beat for $89 when they are on sale at Sears

There is a Gladiator "Cadet" line that Northern Tool carries that must be assembled - that is very lightweight quality and I do not recommend it.

I went with the Kobalt wall cabinets for my garage. The dark gray color look good and they appear to be of decent quality, comparable to the Seville cabinets ( I have two of those also). Dimensions are 30x34-7/8x14-1/2. The adjustable middle shelf is rated for 100# and the fixed bottom at 50#. For its intended use more than adequate for my needs. I will probably buy two more to fill out this section of wall space.

Would you mind sending me the link from Sears becuase when I typed in, the price for a wall mount is $244. Am i looking at the wrong one?

I am interested in the whole cabinet set and thus far have not found a decent price. HD has one but is out of stock.

Can you get stainless steel tops instead of butcher block tops for your cabinets?

Thanks!

Read the signature. I offer 10% off to anyone who can type Alliance in the coupon code box on the website.

My wife told me I had to make money on my online store, so we dropped the 10% discount a year ago.
NewAge offers me discounts for orders in excess of 1000 dollars and 3000 dollars and I pass them along to my customers. The pre configured sets already have the discount applied.

What I offer is 15% off orders of individual cabinets over $1000 and 20% off orders of individual cabinets over $3000.

I sell 3 times as many Professional Series cabinets over the Bold Series line.
Pro Series come in Stainless Steel drawer and door fronts, Diamond Plated Gray powder coated or with Taupe and Gray flat powder coated drawer and door fronts.

I'm not quite as big as Costco or Home Depot so I don't get the same pricing from the manufacturer as they do. I can't compete on price with the sets they sell. What I can do is offer the combination of cabinets you need that fit your space at the best price I can offer.

All while keeping my wife happy.

im going to be honest, before I built my garage I was scoping out the craftsman cabinets and I though they were the cats meow of garage cabinets. I ended getting some old cabinets from a research lab that vacated from a property and when I compare the two side by side you couldnt pay me to take the Craftsman product. the best comparison would be FisherPrice toys vs some high end hobby grade models.

Just bumping this thread up to a more active position. Lots of search on comparing garage storage cabinets. The new and upgraded Pro 3.0 line of cabinets is coming out around the end of March. Here's a sneak peak.

Pricing should be about the same as the older Pro-Series.

I have about 3 Ikea cabinets around the garage. They aren't metal but they do seem to be very sturdy and cheap. I had some old Hot Rod covers blown up to cover the front. They are definitely more sturdy than the flimsy Craftsman ones that I have seen.
