I found some bowling alley lanes in the Los Angeles area that are 14 ft long 4 ft wide and 2 inches thick. I think I can get a better price if multiple people buy from the guy. Anybody interested?

If I still lived out there I'd take some. They make really nice workbench tops. If I remember correctly the first part of the lane, closest to the bowler, has the best hardwood in it.

I think most of the older lanes are made out of hard maple.

I picked up three sections years ago for the main workbench in my woodshop. Excellent material!

Only problem is that the lane I got them from was going to a new composite material - as are the other lanes in the area. So the resource of used lanes is slowly drying up.

2" would be better than the 3" alley material I got for a bench top long long ago. Mine was a shallow tonge and groove hard Maple and nailed (below the top surface and on an angle) about every 8" along the length making it FUN to rip to size for bench tops. It was free and worth all of that. It was a great work surface.
