everybody keeps saying the 1/2 feels so much better than the 3/8, like it's almost gearless. Is that your experience?

IMHO, no. My round heads are far smoother than any 80 I've tried. I'm not saying they're BAD, I just thought they would be better than they are.

You got me wanting to try one of those round heads. What's the best 3/8 model to look for?

I felt the same way when I got mine. I feel more comfortable using my 32 tooth MACs.

I have a Mac XR11F that is my favorite round head due to 45° flex which makes it incredibly handy. Other than that the New Britian NB-45 feels good, my SO FH747 has a nice mechanism, and the raised panel Craftsman round heads are incredibly smooth as well.

edit; proto makes a nice one as well.

I HATED my NB-45. Best Snappy round heads (and snappy ratchets period, IMHO), are the t860 (1/4", 60 tooth), f872 (3/8" 72 tooth), and s872 (1/2" 72 tooth. I haven't tried a 1/2" 80 series, but I was FAR from impressed with the th72 and fh80 I had. They were smoother than the 936's, but not by much, and didn't hold a candle to the round heads. The only reason I use my th72 over my t860 is the comfort grip handle is easier on my arthritic hands. I'm working on that. Expect to see a full set of comfort grip snappy round head ratchets in the future.

I had 1 1/4 drive and 2 3/8 drive dual 80s and was very impressed with them so this last Monday whe the Snappy man came around I played with the 1/2 ones. My exact words to my buddy were "it almost feels like it has something besides gears" It was incredably smooth!!! I was used to a 32 tooth 1/2 ratchet so it blew me away. I agree that the 1/2 drive is the best and the awsome 3/8 and 1/4 come in a close second.

I have the FX80 and the FHOF80 so i'll throw in my 2 cents here. After using a Craftsman Pro ratchet for about 6 months then upgrading the the FX80 I did notice a big difference. I like how they require less swing room than most ratchets, and they dont seem to feel any less durable. The only thing i dont like is the comfort grip on the FHOF80, but thats a personal preference.

I love my TL72. I would buy it again, or another one just in case this one broke and I can't get to the truck the next week.

Now you guys got me interested in the 1/2" drive version...

I just got a stubby 80 tooth snappy!! FK80 and it is da bomb!!

CORRECTION: I have the FKF80...

I agree on the FK80. Very, very nice... You never want to put it down...

Same for the SH80. I only had a Cman raised panel 1/2" before... And yes, the S80s are smoother than the F80s...

I'm also really fond of my FHOF80. I like how the offset lets you keep the handle at closer to a right angle, compared to a regular flex. I've used it quite a bit.

I was thumbing through my catalog last night and when I saw the round heads, I remembered you saying how you like them better. I have the F80, T72, FHLF80 and TK860. Since they are all slightly different sizes it is a little challenging to do a direct comparison. With that said, I agree with n_c that that little round head is VERY smooth.

?: Did Snap-On ever make long-handled or flex head versions of the round head 860/872 series?

I want to pick up a f872 next, wrote it down on my wish list last night. Need to start the search...
