I picked up this cool Goodyear parts cabinet. Among other stuff in the drawers I found these aluminum screw sets. The guy I bought it from couldn't remember what they were for. Any ideas? I can't think I will need them and if somebody has a good use for some I'll send a bunch your way (as long as you pitch in for postage).

My guess is attaching two pieces of leather together as in a belt where the buckle goes on the end ,etc.

I have seen people use similar sets to attach damaged race car body work when the Zeus fittings were damaged to bad or misaligned. They would just drill a quick hole trough both panels and tighten them together. Probably not their intended purpose, but sure beats relying on duct tape alone.

As many have said, they are known as *** bolts, for obvious reason. Used to hold two pieces flat together, just vary the length of the male portion to match the requirement.

*** Bolts... That's what used to hold the rails and the skid plates on my skateboard as a kid. Brings back lots of good memories. And lots of memories of skinned up knees!

Binder posts, the ones with the shorter posts can be used to hold sheets of metal together.

Lots of good uses for those; if they're aluminum, you can tighten them to just finger tight, set the workpiece on a flat hard surface, and give it a good solid tap or two with a small ball peen hammer. It has the effect of mashing the threads together & locking them up. I've got a couple sets of these that I tried that with and you have to have vise-grips to turn them & get them apart again.

I've got a box full from the fleamarket here. They're handy little things to have around.
