Time for me to venture out of the lurker's closet and share what I've decided to do. Small budget for some on this forum, big for others. For me it is just right.

My house has an attached 3-car garage. Ten years old. Good concrete slab; however, when new I painted the floor with HomeDepot Concrete floor paint. It has not held up. Very spotty with some paint here, and some bare floor there. So advice on floor prep appreciated before I proceed much further.

Wife and I have decided on a porcelain floor, in part because of the bad experience with paint. Wife is very good with tile. She did 1,500 SF plus counters on our former residence. Now it is a rental, and holding up like new.

The leading contender for tile is a solid porcelain via HomeDepot and shown in the attached image.

For additional storage I have ordered four 18-gauge Newage locker cabinets in taupe and black. They replace POS fifteen year old open shelving showing the contents' clutter.

And I have ordered from Costco this set in taupe which includes an additional 18 gauge Newage locker, two small wall cabinets, two medium sized floor cabinets, and a butcher block table.

It is not always practical to ride. Still, I may want a bike with me. I put the bike into the bed of my pickup truck; not always an easy or safe thing to do. So I bought a tool on Craigslist. A Rampage which lifts a heavy motorcycle from the street and places it in the bed of the truck. love it.

I attached a hoist to the garage ceiling to offload the Rampage onto a six caster sled I made so that the Rampage can be pushed out of the way when not in use.

Hey Bull Duck,

Would love to hear more about your Rampage set up. Bought myself a new Electra Glide last fall and would love to be able to stuff it in the back of my Crew Cab Nissan Titan. It's a short bed and had serious doubt about securing it properly.

My 2013 F150 Limited replaces my 2000 Tundra which I also bought new. 200K on the Tundra. Read about my Rampage here and how I installed it onto the truck bed which has a plastic tub liner. Watch Craigslist and eBay for your area.

Image of cement floor paint job. Soon to be gone. Image also shows my 2000 Harley-Davidson Deuce with 180 rear tire.

Suggestions on prep work before we tile, appreciated.

I received my Costco order yesterday. Curbside delivery; three pellets received. Very courteous truck driver. He used his pellet mover to leave them at the garage door. Wife and I unpacked the cabinets. One of the tall lockers is on back order. Glad to have received the majority of my order so quickly.

I am impressed with Costco pricing, variety, and service.

I called Costco about the missing tall locker. Costco put me through to Newage, also very courteous. The Newage person I spoke to was located in Ontario Canada.

My first impression of the Newage taupe cabinets is that they are very impressive and very solid, very well made. Welded 18 gauge. No, they are not the 12 gauge of my Matco 4S three bay. Then, they don't need to be either. The tall lockers are 250 pounds.

We took down the old Sam's Club open shelving. It was inexpensive twelve years, and one former residence ago. The shelving did an adequate, though unattractive job of storage, and not at all robust.

We emptied the garage in preparation of receiving the Newage/Costco cabinets.

View 1 of the empty garage attached.

Looks great, are you planning on hanging the two uppers?

Yes, the two small uppers will be hung. Now I have cardboard between the small upper cabinets and the butcher block top. I also need to install the adjustable feet on the lockers and lower cabinets, connect the butcher block to the lower cabinets.

I figured so. Nothing beats the uniformity look of having several pieces of a certain product line. Can't wait to see this progress.

Great build thread. I love the look of those lockers.

Thank you. I like the Newage cabinets from Costco, and friendly service. I spoke with Newage headquarters today in Ontario Canada. My understanding is that Newage has a warehouse in South Carolina. Demand resulting from the current Costco sale has shorted their S.C. warehouse inventory. So it will be a few weeks to complete my order.

That is what happens when you have an excellent product with affordable pricing.

Re: Bull_Duck's Three Car Garage Remodel - 3 Walls of Steel

Scored four Gladiator S2 Large cabinets yesterday, three for me and one for a friend. New and still in their boxes. Local purchase; drove them home with my pickup truck. The Gladiator S2 have been discontinued so good deals are to be found. I was not planning on these diamond chrome door units; but, the price was too good to pass up.

I like the Newage from Costco better. The Newage are more study, larger, hold more weight per shelf and per cabinet. The Gladiator S2 are "designer" attractive. And, To put the various light items behind doors you don't need or necessarily want 12 gauge. The 18 gauge Newage stand sturdy on the garage slab, while the lighter weight Gladiator S2 will be suspended on the wall perhaps with enough room underneath for the lawnmower with the handle folded down, and the Rampage on its 6 caster sled.

I have a set of the NewAge cabinets ordered. How hard are the big cabinets to move around? I only have a 2 wheel hand dolly to try and move them around. Should I rent a hand truck to move them?

They arrived well packaged in a cardboard box. The delivery truck driver placed each of three palettes on his very heavy duty hand operated and pushed fork lift. We rolled them to the garage door. Too tall to fit under the garage door. Driver left.

Leaving cabinet in box, lift one end with hand dolly. Push other end, so into garage. Unpackage enough to bolt on legs. Stand up - easy to do. Easy to push on concrete slab to where you want. Place several levels on to and level the cabinet in place.

Thanks. Mine were delivered and are sitting behind the garage waiting for me to get everything done on the inside. I hopefully wont have any problems getting them into place and leveled up.

Coming on nice bull, are the wall cabinets not going with the tops level with the tall cabinets ? suppose the gap under would be smaller.

Legs easy to install, and cabinets tilt up easily on legs. Once upright place on floor where you want them as the garage floor is likely not as level as you want the top of the cabinets. Place levels on top and judge how much to raise or lower each leg of the cabinet. Easy and requires only a few minutes per cabinet.

The photo on the Costco site shows the tops of the small wall cabinets at a different height than the tall lockers. I decided on the small walls so that I do not block the hatch to the attic above the garage; nothing in there but might need to access it for reasons other than storage someday.

I'll post photos when further along.

Bull_Duck's Three Car Garage Remodel - Change of Floor Color

?..

Wife and I have decided on a porcelain floor, ... leading contender for tile is a solid porcelain via HomeDepot and shown in the attached image.

The Newage cabinets have now all arrived, uncrated, positioned at their intended locations, and leveled. All the household's garage stuff fit in the cabinets, or was disposed. Very happy with the progress. Looks great!

Reading this forum has led me to reconsider wife's and my original choice of covering the garage floor with porcelain. Armstrong Excelon VCT is now the leading contender to cover the floor. Could be a savings of over $1,200, easier to install since the VCT product is lighter, and VCT less likely to chip and crack than porcelain tile.

Considering the colors in the attachment. Blue 57812 would cover the entire floor except around the blue Matco 4S which would be the Beige 51805. The blue VCT appears to be very close to the color of the blue Matco.
