Not exactly new - they were discussed here a couple years ago. It is a neat idea.

Generally, I'd say they're not an improvement. You'd need a pad for every jackstand for every type of car. And notice in the video they didn't show the jackstand being put under the car, only the final positioning - it will require crawling under the car that is supported only by the jack! And unlike most (all?) of the cheapest jackstands you can buy, they are not height adjustable.

However in the situations they're talking about - where there's only one place to both jack and support a car, they'd be valuable. Or if you have a custom ride where the underneath is as detailed as the top.

Well, even high end cars have several jacking points. I've lifted several supercharged mercedes, and even a bentley continental supersport ~$$$$$$250k car. With regular jacks (albeit with custom pads i made) and normal stands!

It's a good idea in theory, in practice I don't see it being very useful.

No. They are hardly tall enough to do more than change tires and do brake work, the base looks so wide it would actually get in the way.

I have the Jackpoint Jackstands and they are great, easiest way for me to get a car up. It's also nice that it doesn't destroy the pinch welds when lifting the car.

The height is not adjustable but it raises it plenty enough for changing oil and rotating tires..
