Good Morning...I am considering purchasing a 41" top/bottom tool chest. The HF 41" and the Menard Masterfroce 41" are both on sael...Menard Masterforce $698 and the HF is about the same.

Any thoughts on which is "best" at essentially the same price?

I like the red HF (but wish it were not "krinkle" finish...) and I don't love the Menard Dark Green...but prefer the smooth finish.

Waht do you think about overall quality/features differences...about the same?

Thanks...Tom R

P.S. Any other choices better in this price range?...TMR

I have two of the MasterForce 41" bases and one of the tops. I am real well satisfied with it other than the green color. It's not bad, easy to clean, but not fond of that particular shade of green. As far as the toolbox itself, I couldn't be more pleased. Built way better than any of my craftsman. But one thing that you may or may not like is that the drawers kind of "pop" shut when you close them. This is due (I guess) to rubber pieces in the rails. The don't make a pop sound, but mor e of a bump when they close. So anything that is not on a holder etc, will get shifted in the drawer to the back everytime.

I considered both when I bought my HF set, mostly b/c I had discount coupons I could use at HF. All things being equal I thought the two were comparable and you can't go wrong with either one. I have the bottom, top and side cabinet from HF and am very happy with them.

If you're not in a rush then you might want to wait another month or so as I wouldn't be surprised to see the HF bottom go on sale again for $299. It did twice last year.

Make sure you're on their mailing / email list as the $299 coupon come once in the mail, and the other time in their weekly email ad.

I've got both the HF top and bottom and while I'm happy with their performance I do wish a couple drawers were a hair deeper so I could store my cordless drills in the box instead of the top, and I really wish it was more than 18" deep.

I wish HF would come out with an intermediate box with a single full width drawer like Craftsman has. Having that extra drawer would solve all my problems.

I trust the "$299" deal would surface here if it happened again soon.

They seem to be $400++ depending on which sale you see (bottom only). Plus I am looking for a current 15% coupon.

I do think I prefer the HF...Thanks...Tom R

We dont have Menards around here,so I cant compare the 2 boxes. I bought the top and bottom boxes at HF,and am very happy with them. I agree they could use a couple more deep drawers, for air tools etc. I bought my bottom box when they had the 20% off coupons. It was on sale for 299. and I got 20% off the sale price=$249 was not a bad price for that box!!. They dont seem to drop the price on the side cabinets very much when they go on sale.
