How did you clean out the detergent? When I cleaned puke out of my carpet yesterday I spreayed water on it and used a wet vac to pull the water and puke up. The reason I ask is that detewrgent would need a LOT of rinsing to get it all out of the carpet. Leave it there and your carpet can be destroyed.

As for the jack, thoroughly clean it off, grease the joints and screw and you should be fine.

Jim

I took all the interior pieces out, hung them over my saw horses and hosed, hosed, hosed... I probably hosed them for a solid hour in total! :shocking:

I then let them air dry in the sun for a bit, then sprayed them down again! I can run my hand across the fabric and feel the detergent lingering on the edge of one piece, but other than that, everything looks clean (ha).

I'll have to make a run down to the hardware store for some real grease on the jack now. Thanks man.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

My O/S headlight washer jet was leaking again and as they are an obscene price from BMW I decided to effect a better repair than last time. So headlight out and washer out. The back of it, where the feed pipe connects to, is clipped into the main body with one clip on each side. One of these was broken when I got it and I had previous used a small drop of Araldite on it (which failed fairly quickly). First picture show the intact side and the next the broken side. I just drilled a small hole for a stiff piece of wire the trap the end piece and then surrounded it all with Araldite. I doubt this will fail again, I hope.

I had also lost the use of the lower drivers side heated seat so this was removed and the the feed wire was broken, so I just cut this back and soldered the wire back to the element.

A friend from work gave me his old John Deere STX 38 (yellow mower deck). The thing was in pieces since he was attempting to part it out after the mower hit something and the steering stopped working. Anyway, I have it all back together now and just need to replace the lower steering pedestal assembly because the plastic is cracked. It's got a 12.5 KOHLER engine. Anybody know if a little rider like this can make it up a hill? I have a walkout basement and am wondering if this mower will be able to tackle my little hill.

Received my new top case, the old one interfered with my paniers. I added reflective tape to it as well. Holds my helmet, is quick release, and looks good to me.

I emptied out some stuff to change the oil of my Sierra in the garage. After I was done, I put it all back in then went to help friends enlarge a deck. I really wish I had a paved driveway, or a bigger garage.

That would probably depend on the slope of your hill. A few links to look at in your search:

You might also call a local John Deere dealer.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Installed a Reese hitch kit on my wife's Honda Oddessy. It was damaged in shipping, so I gave it a coat of bedliner spray paint. It looks so much better with the bedliner than the shiny powdercoat. 6 bolts, spacers and washers, and it was done. The hardest part was removing a plastic "appearance" piece under the left fender.

The kit came with a cable package and a black box. Once I got the interior trim panel loose, it was a simple matter of plugging in the harness and routing the wire.

Took about half an hour of actual work. Great kit.

I always thought motorcycle helmets should have LED marker lights on them. Your head is the highest point and it would get attention from cages.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Pressure washed the Ninja's chassis to clean if of accumlated grease and road debris. Fixed a fuel leak in the petcock mount to the tank. Pulled the bodywork out of storage to wash and wax separate of the bike before installation- and then promptly dropped the chin fairing, scratching it up. @#$*@#$!

I might be tempted to do a respray since I've got the equipment to do it now. Tempting.

Also, I've lost my mirrors and the bolts. Sheesh. At least that can be fixed.

I'd probably take the interior pieces to the laundromat and toss them in the biggest machine they have (for rugs, etc). No detergent, just run it through the whole cycle. Might have to repeat......

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I have finally started restoring some of my treasures rather than working on the place
Today I started the restoration on a 1927 commercial gas pump

It came apart easier than it would seem
the internal workings were still soft and the nuts just spun off the studs

Made a trim ring out of aluminum for the cutout for the air cleaner for both looks and strength. Having the right files really helps as the soft aluminum was clogging up most of my files except for my round 3/8" thick file which ate right thru the aluminum.

Cheers

Hmmmm. Interesting idea. Possible business opportunity?

I wonder if there is some sort of law against this.

It would b easy to glue one of the LED blinkers that bicyclists use to a helmet.

I believe it is illegal (in my state anyway) to have non-factory lights facing backward. That said, you see it all the time and for the safety factor, I'd be surprised if you even got a warning for it once explained to the officer. This is, of course, assuming it is not glaring to other drivers.

They are not illegal, and available in several configurations. Some even have built in brake and turn signal lights.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I think I have tried every socket organizer out there. I hate them all. Keep in mind this falls squarely in the " too much time on my hands" because I have about 10 other things that I SHOULD be working on. But . . . I had some beautiful knot-free cedar . . .

And used an adjustable bit and some forstner bits to make a socket holder for my 3/8 SAE set, then added some brushed aluminum handles so that it's portable if needed. Mind you I'm a hobbyist, so this will work for me.

And yes, cedar is super soft, and Maple, etc. etc. would hold up better but . . .I LOVE cedar, it mills sooooo easily, and I love the way it looks. Also I won't have any moths in my tool box!

I plan to add some doweling with sizing marks on top like the Hansens. This was the first attempt to make sure I liked the way it looks. Still need to spray some clear sealant, then on to the metric, the 1/4 and the 1/2 sets.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

The lack of DOT approval does not automatically mean illegal. If you disagree, please link me the Federal Law that sates such.

That's funny. So they don't list they are DOT approved like every headlight, taillight, etc on every vehicle from the factory. You say (sorry if I am putting your argument better) "Well they're not OE lights so they don't need to be DOT approved. So show me where aftermarket lighting IS illegal."

Seems common sense to me. If all lighting on a vehicle is DOT approved in its mold, then any additional lighting should also be DOT approved. Otherwise, who's to keep someone from driving around with laser pointers as "auxiliary lighting devices" blinding other drivers. They're not replacing OE so they're ok, right?

You can postulate all you like, but the fact is that there are many auxiliary lights, notice I do not say replacement lights, that are in common legal use. So long as you are not replaceing the DOT approved lighting, adding more is generally OK. Exceptions being forward facing white lights. Only four on at a time are legal.

I'm not going to say you can't win this one, but I have been though this discussion many times.

I design RV front caps and rear caps, the clearance lights I use are DOT approved. There is quite a bit of freedom when it comes to mounting clearance lights, with the biggest restrictions being color, no further then 6" from center of light to the outside of the unit and mounted as high as reasonable. One I use commonly is a 3/4" bullet LED light that would be perfect for helmet mounting. Which could be considered a marker light and therefore legal.

And my car in my sig have headlights and taillights that are technically DOT approved, but only because Honda added reflex corner marker lights on the bumpers. Without them they wouldn't pass based upon the lack of reflex from a side view.

Also, it should be noted that all of the fog lights sold at Advanced Auto or Autozone are for off-road use only, last time I checked anyways, and I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for them?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

It's unlikely you'll be pulled over for a non-DOT approved light, but your vehicle might not pass inspection if has non-DOT lighting.

I have reflectors on my helmet currently.

And I would be riding my bike now but while it was running great two days ago, I put the bodywork on today, cranked it up and ... and... it warmed up and died. Now it won't start. Seems like it's fuel starved. To pull the tank to check requires that most of that bodywork comes right back off again. Sigh. At least I know where all the fasteners are.

Nothing as I don't have my garage built (yet.) But, we did get final approval of our plans and got the permit to start building!
