Last night I had a gap in work so I pulled the Jeep onto the lift to service the engine, transmission and rotate tires before our next Moab trip.

Tonight I have a client bringing over a hydraulic pump that he can't seem to get the coupler off of, then I get to start on a TH400 transmission build tomorrow night for a client who just bought an older motorhome.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Pulled the fuel tank off the Ninja to find out why fuel wasn't flowing only to find a kinked fuel line where the filter got jammed in by a wire cable bundle. Easy fix. Took bike out for a test ride, worked great. Swung by Bent Bike to see about a new visor for my helmet only to find out that it was discontinued several years ago. Hmph. I could probably get it online for $40-50, but y'know, these nice NEW helmets with the modular / clamshell / flip up design that I always coveted are only $200 and come with a built in slide down sun visor like on fighter pilot helmets.

SOLD!

I really need to learn some self control.

For the last 5 days I have been in the same boat as "ABADWILLYS", installing 3000 sq feet of R19 and 86 sheets of OSB. I am glad that part of my adventure is done. Now time to get after the ceiling. One step closer to hot metal and oil!!!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Amazing! Wonderful! Not to be missed!

I finally used my garage, and the tools in it, to make something...well, to finish making something!

The "Grunge Garage" is finally becoming a working shop. I needed a hasp to better secure to doors at my hangar. So I took a short length of angle iron and cut it into 4 pieces and bumped the edges at work. Then I brought it home and drilled and countersunk the bigger hole on one flange, to accept a lock, and the double holes on the other flange for bolts. Each pair creates the hasp shown in the photo. I will have 2 locks on the door, one high and one low. Still needs priming and painting and installation.

Finally getting it working a little...

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last night a client brought over a hydraulic pump that had a coupler froze on the shaft. Removed it for him and cleaned up the shaft in preperation for a new coupler.

Helped my son install his new Vance & Hines Big Shots on his new Street Bob. Then we had to test them out so we went for a short ride. It was a bit chilly, but hey it was riding.

While I was waiting for the guy to bring the hydraulic pump I decided to get my sprinkler system up and running for the season. It has been quite wet here this spring so I haven't needed to water until now. I primed it last night and noticed I have one sprinkler head plugged and another not working properly. So that is on my agenda of tasks for the weekend. Personally I would rather spin a wrench that dig in the dirt but I am too **** to let someone else do it or pay someone else to do it.

Hmmmm. Interesting idea. Possible business opportunity?

I wonder if there is some sort of law against this.

It would b easy to glue one of the LED blinkers that bicyclists use to a helmet.

GMAX offered helmets with them built into the back, not sure if they still do.

Yesterday I siphoned the gas out of my Hayabusa to prepare to put it up for sale.

Today I took out my new (to me) C109 for its first ride. The wife and I both love it!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I finished up cutting the foam for my tool box to organize all of my tools. Didn't take too long. Total cost was like $28. I also have a small tool box too so take that into consideration. Upon finishing it I realized it is Alot of weight for those crappy entry level drawers and they're kind of hard to open and close now.

Nice work! Where did you buy the foam from?

www.foamforyou.com and you want the polyethylene foam. 2.3lbs/cu ft is the cheapest and I have heard to stay away from the more dense stuff due to moisture getting trapped and causing flaking chrome and rust.

Go Pro Roll Cage Mount

Those of you that use Go Pro cameras know the mounting system Go Pro sells is great if the mounting surface is vertical or horizontal but not so great if they aren't. On offroad race buggies/trucks the tube you want to clamp to is usually one at an angle. I saw a clamp system a mate of mine uses, at an event last year, today I built one.

L to R - Go Pro tripod mount, studio lighting clamp, 1/4" bolt and two nuts and a cross ballhead mount

Screw 1/4" bolt in with Loctite. Cut head of bolt off with grinder and unscrew nuts. Screw on ballhead mount and attach Go Pro tripod mount.

On 2" tube

On 3/4" tube

Made a small piece with a knob to keep the doors closed on my locker at work. Picked up all my scrap and took it to the scrap yard.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Decided to hang my $5 craigslist cabinet since I didn't have anywhere else in the house to hang it.

Something doesn't look right though beside my gladiator cabinets...

However it does match the base cabinets which I paid like $10 for (hella good steal!) The wall cabinet was also the same color wood on the sides and top. I painted that white first.

That was also bothering me... decided to take the advice from some and painted the entire cabinet white. Then decided to use the same paint I have for the lower part of the garage theme and painted all the wood trim on the cabinets... turned out quite well and flows much better now!

Made a trim ring out of aluminum for the cutout for the air cleaner for both looks and strength. Having the right files really helps as the soft aluminum was clogging up most of my files except for my round 3/8" thick file which ate right thru the aluminum.

Cheers

Get a piece of chalk and run your file over it a few times before you start filing your aluminum. The chalk will keep it from clogging.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Unfortunately I didn't get a dang thing done in the shop last night. I had a day from hell at work, got out of work late and by the time I got home I needed to twist the throttle on the bike for a while. My son and I hopped on the bikes and ran to the Harley store to pick up his FSM that came in and get him a windshield for his new Street Bob.

Came home, swept up the shop floor, opened up a Pepsi and sat and watched my son polish his bike while we BSed.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I admire your willingness to open up your shop to others. I wish I could do that but I think I would need a straight jacket before we even started on anything.

Mike.

Thanks Mike,

Mostly the people that come are known motorcycle people. While occasionally I lose a screwdriver or wrench, it is accidental since most bring part of the tools they need, and borrow what they do not have. Of course there are messes, and oil/tire disposal, but overall it is a lot of fun!

I'm too busy during the tech day to get too worried about stuff.:willy_nil

Wax also works.

Organized my shop for the tech day tomorrow!

This is something I started a few months ago, I have taken a break from my 53 chevy, and started doing sculptures in my shop, made out of recycled cutlery.

enjoy,

Fixed the grass catcher on my john deere so it doesn't fall half off the back everytime the bag gets full or I hit a bump.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Just came in and relaxing. Had to replace a couple of sprinkler heads tonight. Mowed the lawn then serviced the lawn mower, cleaned the underside of the deck and sharpened/balanced the blade.

Neighbor and his wife stopped by that I hadn't talked to for a while, it was kind of nice to shoot the breeze with them. My wife heard me talking to someone in the shop and came out to see if I was talking to myself. We sat in the shop and BSed for about an hour.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I'm new here, but I guess this is as good a thread to start in as any! Today, I opened my garage door, walked into the garage, briefly noted that it looked like a bomb went off inside the garage, walked back out and closed the door.

Backstory: We just bought the house. We renovated the bathroom, built a new wall in the basement, and a few other minor projects, so the garage was used as a workshop for cutting tile and wood. Tomorrow I clean the garage up to make room for my Mustang. But that's tomorrow's post.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I walked in, picked up the limb loppers, and whacked off a bunch of limbs on the shrubs around the house. Tomorrow's assignment from SWMBFAO is to clean up the yard. We gotta have it looking nice for the party for the kid's graduation from high school.
