Was the coin what you paid for yours?
LOL! That one & the Paramo aren't paid for yet. I like the idea of black wrinkle finish, that may have been what was on mine originally, there's not much paint left on it.
They both go in "The Pile" until I get situated somewhere I can set up *resto shop* again.

I picked up two vises at Pate swap meet the past few days at Texas Motor Speedway

Underlined Craftsman machist vise made by Reed, in nice shape. I paid a premium for this vise, $180, because I have been trying to find this style of vise. I had cash in my pocket from selling stuff so I splurged!

Athol pattern makers vise, quick adjust, patent date 1871. Says AMCO on the side, Athol Mass. $55

Got this little guy at a yardsale today for $10. It's in great shape with only one chip on the side of the jaw. I blasted and painted it, but had to leave it at the shop to dry overnight.

I picked up a Wilton Cadet.

Normally I just clean my vises up but I think I'm going to restore this one cause somehow the orange isn't doing it for me. Hunter Green sounds right, though maybe I'll do something else. Black?

I'm not at all a purist. Seafoam green? haha that could be weird but somehow I think I'd like that. OR it'd turn out heinous. I'm open to suggestions...

Does any know where I can find the Snap-On foil sticker for this thing? I was thinking about just calling Snap-On and asking them...

Here is before: (I apologize for having posted this pic twice now on this thread)

Here it is as of this afternoon. I still need to add another coat or two.

If it doesn't say "6 " Jaws ""Made in the USA on the other side its a knockoff and a nice one. Wilton brought that 1760 back home to be made for awhile. It did not have the red sticker on the side. it had the newer foil type sticker. If its unused in the box it may be worth more to you trying to sell it on Ebay then using it.

Derrickwade. Very nice restoration. I have the Wilton foil sticker, not the snap on.,

:bounce:

I was thinking more of aubergine than pink would coordinate well with my decor.

:lol_hitti

Yeah yeah I know it's not macho to care what color your tools are, but aside from that, everybody with working eyes notices anyway.

Well I'm probably gonna go with something weird just for the heck of it. Can't be that hard to redo.

Edit: Hey apparently they did come (or someone redid) them in that seafoam color i was thinking of, check out post 8172

the box says it was shipped from schiller park, IL. but the sticker says Des Plaines, IL. The square on the other side of the bullet is blank, 08 83 is stamped on the bottom of the moving jaw key.

My newest submittal to the vises thread. This was something a friend picked up for me at a sale near his house.

This is one of the cleanest Rock Island/Craftsmans i've seen in a while. It has a date on the slide of 1947!!

Paint is all original too!

I have a really old Prentiss Vise catalogue (it's REALLY neat), and it has a Model 801 and 802 in it.

What is the jaw width on your vise?

It's cool!

Thought I'd post an update on my vice and stand resto. This is how I got it:

I went with light grey and wine red and this is what it looks like now:

With a little left over paint, I tarted up an arbor press I picked up for cheap locally (best £21 I ever spent). Jones & Shipman, Made in Leicester, England:

After 1/2 wirewheeling session, two new acorn nuts and a lick of paint:

Finally, got this one a few days back - 6" Record No. 36 - they are about $1k new:

Cool, I like the stand, never seen one like that. The acorn nuts are a nice touch. Amazing what's hiding under old paint and grime.

Picked up these two from a friend this morning. Needless to say i was happy when he called saying he had some vises to sell but didn't expect these. the wilton is a July of 1951 and has 3" jaws

I never thought 50.00 bucks could buy so much happiness:D

WILTON C1

cleaned it up a little thats all i am doing tonight looks pretty good one little gouge on front jaw needs to be fixed

got the C1 done i still have the serated jaws which are in great shape polished the handles made a new handle for the draw rod out of an axle from garden tractor on the lathe took the draw spindle and put it in the lathe and polished it up nd made a pair of smooth faced A2 TOOL STEEL jaws not hardened so they are soft enough to grip something tight without smucking it up, primed it and painted it with Rustoleum hammer tone light blue and bolted the main vise down on the mill and refaced the anvil with a fly cutter, never seen a casting on a wilton as rough is this one, shouldn't really need another vise now.... my wife said she heard that one before
