A die grinder!!!


I just picked up 2 of the HF ones on sale for $10.99 ea plus the set of mandrels and discs for them.


Hooked it up to my Porter Cable pancake and took the rust off the bottom of a toolbox like it was butter!!! The POWER! The convenience! The ECSTASY!!!

Picked up 2 for the boss at work.

May get a couple more when they go on sale again.

Seriously! Nothing with rust or bad paint will ever be safe from me again. I have been given the power. I think of all the wasted years I stood around and looked at rusty toolboxes and vises and things I could have done something with...if only I knew there was a tool.

But for real though. Wait till you come acrossed a gasket that is just GLUED to the surface. Lightly use your die grinder on it and shazaam! Gone. Just dont get carried away.

You might want to look at the right angle adapter for your Dremel.

It's a good thing.

wait till you figure out the attachments you can use and what you can use em for. cutting whells, sanding pads, gasket scrapers, carbide burrs, flap discs, wire wheels. they can do alot more than removing rust.
also buy yourself good quality carbide burrs. the cheap ones are fine for a wheel but the dull very quickly.

I have 1/4 of a 40" drawer dedicated to my carbides, flappers, rolocs, stones, cut-offs, etc in every shape and size. Quit while you're ahead Lucky my work supplies most of it.

most 90* die grinders ****. The pinion gears strip out easily. If you need 90* ergonomics, get the "pistol grip" grinders with inline motor if at all possible. Non geared.

Die grinders easily damage machined mating surfaces, so the real secret is using "aircraft stripper"

At first cheap air die grinders are cool until they die or lack the power for ever expanding amount of attachments. At some point, 1/3 or 1/2hp is desired. Minor cleanup no big deal, but eventually other attachments get used more boldly.

At 20,000rpm, high quality attachments are desired. Not only safer, but last longer and perform more in less time.

Buy dedicated cutoff tool if you ever feel a wild burr to attach an abrasive wheel to it.

Usually a die grinder and a small compressor are NOT a good combination.

I feel you with using chemical strippers, but my IR die grinder has been abused for over ten years and still works as good as the day I got it. I have a couple of bigger gun style air grinders with more ***, but they can't get into the tight spots a smaller 90 degree angle grinder can especially with a 1" wheel.

I do 95% autobody restoration work with it so this may not be something you feel the need to use such a grinder for.

4.5" angle grinder. get cut-off wheels and a wire cup

also for your angle die grinder, ger a 1" cup brush.

I use mine on every job, usually with the plastic bristle brush for cleaning gasket material

HOT damn bczygan...you know what i am in the process of restoring 3 old vidmars which have a lot of rust on the bottom drawers and the base of it and i spent about an hr on one with my DA and 100 grit, Why the hell didnt i think of using my angle grinder.

P.s. sorry for bringing back an old thread to life, but i am pretty excited now to get back out there and get at it, i was dreading going back out there to tackle that rust with the DA.
