Hey gang

I am finally starting my new garage !!
Just finished the foundation so after I get it backfilled I will start the build !!
I can't wait cause the garage on the house is getting so full its ******* me off.

From the picture the garage looks so small. When you staked it out it looked so big. Once you put the sides and roof it will be so big. Then you put all your stuff inside it will be just rite.

Now IF you don't collect a lot of junk it WILL stay just rite. Looks great!

Got the foundation backfilled yesterday.
Going to start building the walls tomorrow.
It still doesn't seem like a very big garage to me, lol !
What do you guys think ??

One suggestion. If you ever plan on putting in a lift, I would recommend a higher ceiling height.

I built a 28x40 a couple of years back and ended up with 10' ceilings due to rooms above. I am very limited on lifts and also lifting heights.

Its amazing that a garage that looks big on paper isn't once the vehicles are in it.I laid out the dimensions on the ground and moved some of the fleet into it,30x40 isn't nearly big enough,but its all I can do.I also recommend going up to 12' walls if possible,nice for lift headroom,and a lot more room for shelves and cabinets to keep the floor clear.

Ditto, go higher, a lot higher. You won't regret it.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input but I really don't need a lift!
I can turn a wrench but only like doing it on small stuff.
My good buddie is a mechanic and what he can't do the dealer will.
I may regret it but the only lift I'm putting in there is a lift for the snowmobile,
three wheeler, quad, motorcycle and probably the John Deere lawn tractor

See the little pile of wood left from the framing. Not bad, hardly any wastage !!

I sheeted in half the walls. I had to stop cause the nascar race just came on, haha

I have to wait for my trusses though.
There is a construction boom on the go around these parts here lately and the wait for trusses is about 6 - 10 weeks. I am supposed to have my trusses mid october !
If all goes to plan , I'm hoping to have the garage weather tight before the white stuff gets around, lol.

It seemed like forever for the trusses to get here.

Cleaned up a bit

Now with the roof on it looks huge out in my backyard, lol.

I figure i'll frame the top when I buy a door and get the rough stud opening.
Maybe the door heights are all the same but i really don't know.
I'm building this myself with help from a few friends and neither of us are carpenters, lol.

Its been a while since I had a chance to post some pics. I'm getting a little done each week. Slowly but surely, haha.
At least I'll soon have the garage weather tight before the snow starts flyin.
It took 50 bundles of shingles to cover the roof. Shes costing now,oh my !!!
Got most of the siding on, only the front to do now and get the facia and soffit completed. This siding has been a learning experience, lol !!!!!

Had the garage door installed today. I going to put bandsaw pine around the garage door and put the header with the crown moulding over it to give it the finishing touch and then I can finish the siding on the front, can't wait. I think my window looks too small in the attic, maybe???

I had the trusses designed to give me a large storage area in the attic.

The window looks fine. If you want it to appear larger you can install vinyl shutters in white to compliment the doors.

I layed a few sheets down on the attic floor today just to see how much room I actually have up there. Its not really an attic for doing much, just storage. My triangular attic space is almost 14 feet wide on the bottom by 40 feet long with 7 1/2 feet of headroom. Since its a decent size I'm going to put some lights up there and probably put a stairs in the back of the garage for access. Trying to get things up on a ladder or pull down attic hatch ladder is not the easiest way, lol !!

The attic of my former house had the same roof construction. In the areas to the exterior of the main triangle section I put shelving about half way. Lots of addition storgage space!
