Actually I don't know truck prices at all other than what I've read here. How much off would you typically expect if paying cash? How much if financed?
Sometimes they give you better deals if you finance, even if you pay it off in full on the first payment.
The the last things i was looking for were side lockers and after watching Craig's List and Ebay for about three months I mentioned to my Snap On dealer to keep an eye out for trade ins and good used ones in my price range and color. I told him I found one with the right price but wrong color and he said "Hell, I'll match that and kick in a tool voucher certificate if you put it on a credit account.
So as it worked out I got the used price I wanted but on brand new, in the right color, with matching trim, a tool certificate and since I qualified for 9.9% financing rate I stretched the payments out over three months before paying them off to soften the blow a little.
Side boxes are a different story, I've been looking for one for awhile now. They aren't nearly as plentiful as roll cabs and you are further limited if you want a specific color/model. The trade in explanation makes sense to me but you didn't answer my question. How far off msrp will the truck guys typically go on boxes? How much less than list did you pay for your side locker?

Or the Charmin toilet paper commercial with the white kittens. When it's over you wonder which would be softer on your ****.![]()

Poster 1 is assuming everyone is as broke as him.
That is not the case and people will buy at a premium price.
All relative to income I reckon.
Convenience is a big factor as well.
Got nothing to do with income, and everything to do with value. I don't value being the first guy to lay a socket in a drawer, and I can buy a hell of a lot of convenience with a few grand. YMMV, I'll probably never own a new car either, for about the same reasons.I'd bet that 80-90% of new tool box purchases from a tool truck are at least partially financed. It is hard to get a C/L seller to accept weekly payments![]()

Just keep in mind write offs go against your income. If you made 70k but wrote off 15k your income is listed as 55k. It can effect something like getting a car or home loan.
OOPS - Sorry - it was "Royale". The kittens are white and about the same size as a roll of toilet paper. The commercial ends with ... "The one you want for a soft touch". I can see that someone could get confused and grab the wrong one!I'm gonna see if its on Youtube.

My SO guy runs killer deales on new boxes but I still couldn't imagine paying that much for something that simply holds/organizes my tools.
I bought 2 Matco boxes on CL within the last yr..... a 6S double bank & a 4S triple bank, both in very nice condition. The 4S was stocked full of at least $4k worth of Matco & SO tools. I paid about 13% of what they would've cost new. I'm game for that kinda deal any day of the week.
13%
You ****!
I bought new for several reasons.
1: I got exactly what I wanted. I didn't have to live with someone else's color choice, or model.
2: it was far easier to just trade my old box in than sell it and deal with all of the kijiji no show's and dreamers.
3: The only box of the model I wanted for sale near me was actually listed for more money than I paid for the brand new one I bought.
4: It helps me build a relationship with my snap on guy. He no longer questions anything g I need warranty on. As well as I get better deals than the guys who haven't bought boxes from him on everything. (If just for that it paid whatever perceived price difference).
5: I don't want to be working out of "so and so's" box. Boxes seem to carry thier original owner with them.
6: new is a tax write off for me, tough to send in that napkin bill of sale to the government when they ask.
I've still got my Craftsman boxex fron 1976.......
all they do is sit there and hold tools. They don't fix anything!

Ha! I know.... they were deals I could not pass up!
On a side note... beware of buying a box that has a lein on it. You'll get slammed if you try to trade it in.
25% of my work tools would crush a 1976 craftsman box.

that is truly sad if you need to spend 8 grand to get the ability to warranty tools with ease.....
You Dont.. but i wouldn't downplay the Importance of being a good customer and the Perks that come with it, Regardless if your talking about a Restaurants, Auctioneers, Flea Market Dealers or Tool Truck Salesman.
..in recent times I've found myself headed towards the smaller mom & pop/local outlets for anything I need. 5 years ago, Home Depot or Lowes were all I shopped when it came to home building materials, now its a local...same with electical stuff. When it comes to tools...tool trucks are virtually the only place 90% of America can still do tool related business with a handshake and a smile. To the op I kid you not today on the Columbus craigslist someone is selling a Kennedy Mechanics 34inch tool box for...Wait for it, wait $1250.00 crazy just crazy for a small tool box! I wonder what he would have asked if it had the snap on name?

I appreciate what you are saying, I really do, but let's not kid ourselves here. It's business, just business. I love "good customers"...ie people who make me money. I'll throw you all the freebies in the world as long as you keep spending money. It comes down to two very simple principles...volume or margin. If you're there all the time buying stuff, of course I can cut you a better deal, it's volume. If you're there once a year, it's margin. Nothing more, nothing less, just good business practice.
All those casino's in Vegas don't give away free rooms because they're losing money.![]()
If you are young enough..................sale the box and get a better education so you dont have to "wrench" for a living.
You guys bitching about who has the better box is like trash men saying "my gloves are better than yours !!
A chrome plated plunger does not make a better plumber !!!
Saying you love being a mechanic is like a fat girl saying she likes her "look".
Go ahead and take your best shot at me.I took my own advice years ago and retired wealthy and proud.
