wow!! i would have paid that even without the motor also. that things to cool to end up on a scrap pile somewhere. would love to see pictures of it restored and operational. i dont expect adapting a motor to it would be very hard at all. good luck with it.

I didn't buy it.

If I had the space and time to work on it I'd be all over it! I just thought it was such an oddity and perhaps someone nearby might be interested.

I thought there'd be more interest on the thread but then again, it's not an all-mighty craftsman! :p123

Does missing motor mean it doesn't come with a 50' steam-driven line shaft?

I've got an old lathe that was made to run off a line shaft; it works great, but it's only belted to an electric motor, which seems a shame. I'd like to pick up another machine and actually set up a line shaft along one wall.

No, it very likely means exactly what it says, that machine is missing its electric drive motor. LOTS of flat belt machinery used factory electric motors, a few companies were still producing them even into the 60s and 70s.

Sadly it will when it goes ends up at an auction and the highest bidder is a scrapper.

Hate to say it but I picked up a pair last year for $100. The bigger one was about 9 ft tall and 1200 pounds. In working condition. Two months on Craigslist and I scrapped it. Kept the electric motor. Just too big for most people.

The "little" one about 7 feet tall and 7 or 800 pounds is in my shop at work. Works beautifully. Some day I'll find time to clean it up. Still a big footprint.

I meant functionally it works fine and has boatloads of power, but the travel is laughable at best and takes up a lot of real estate. A mill would be a better fit.

Just looked at a very similar drill here, working now in a welding shop. Power down feed, back gear, single phase motor, bunch of vises, small XY cross slide table, and a **** load of taper shank drills, chucks, etc. Wants $300. I don't really have room for it, but want it badly! Have to decide by tomorrow.
