Hey all,

Well, as i'm about to clear out the entire basement for my basement makeover, I want to add in a nice tool cart. It needs to hold a lot of tools but not necessarily automotive related! :) I was thinking of making my own in wood, but in fact I found some in Germany which are cheaper new than if I would make them and for sure even a badly made 'Chinese' cart would probably be better than what I'd be making out of wood :)

So for a basic DIY guy/weekend worker, do you guys see any huge differences between these set-ups? I will be making a workbench that matches the cart.

Ah yes, about the urgency: It is simply because I'll be passing through Germany in two days, so I could pick one up very easily. These things cost an arm where I normally stay at :-(

Thank you!

I seem to have a slight preference for the Holzinger one as it seems to have more drawers :dunno:

Everyone's needs/wants are different, so only you can tell what will work best for you.

My preference would be for the first one listed. My experience has been that no matter how well you plan, you will never have enough storage. So, plan for more than you think you will need, that way you will have less overage and won't need to get a bigger box next month.

Thanks a lot already for your feedback, I really very much appreciate it :)

Perhaps, if you could specify why YOU like it, that would help for me to perhaps relate to that :)

I need it for the following basic need: Tool storage. For the moment I am redoing the entire basement (will post in separate thread) and I am a total DIY nutcase. So I will not only store the usual suspects (wrenches etc...) but also saws, power tools etc... Preferably as much and as tidy as possible in that cabinet. I also will make a workbench that I will fit around this cabinet (whichever one it would be). But I'm really looking to 'organize' my current mess.

But I think if you can, I would really appreciate why YOU would say why YOU prefer one or the other, I find that works very well for me and perhaps you think of things that I forget :) This forum is full of very smart replies from which I learned a ton, so I'm really interested in your opinion as to which one you would take :) Don't even think about me on this one! :)

#3. It is going to give you the most tool space to start with. Then at a later time, you can buy a top chest to put on top of that bottom, and even a middle chest if needed.

#3 is going to be the most versatile, for now and in the future, and allows for expansion. #1 and #2 you are are kind of at a dead end from the start, and can't really expand on those two the way you can expand on #3.

You're right, I was only looking at the number of drawers, not the quality of the construction when I picked the first one. The casters on the first one seem under strength for a heavy load.

I change my vote to #3. Although, I would have preferred a shallow drawer for screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches. Those things tend to get lost in the deep drawers.

I would have done the same, I wonder if you could get the top for it like option #1 so youd have the two boxes and more drawers.
