MEMBER EMERITUS
Hey guys......I'm kicking something around and want to see what sort of interest others would have in doing it. If I would come up with some sort of a spreadsheet with a list of machines on it, would you be willing to put up your name, what machines you have, and what capabilities you have, and a State only, no town location?
The reason I ask this is that although it is summer and everyone should be out in the garage, (or banging the neighbors wife
) I think with as many members we have now, there is a lot more activity in the Fab Forum. With that, there are many members that don't have a lathe, mill, grinder, and so on, but at times need something made. If they knew who to contact, or knew who had what, then they could get in touch with a member or two and get their parts fabricated. I'm still thinking about the spreadsheet and how to post it up so ones could get their name on it. I may have to check with (well hell..a case of CRS at the moment) the member who made the spreadsheet up about the garages, with the size and so on that you can search for. I'll remember it later.
If the members would at least list the State they are in, excluding "confusion", then other members in the same state would more than likely PM the member that is close, or if close enough meet them in person, or even mail or ship things back and forth.
As it stands now, the members may know one or two with appropriate machinery to get something done, but don't want to ask for them to do something. Some may not want to ask other members for help in something because they figure that "he wouldn't want to machine something for me".
And don't get me wrong, I'm not implying that ANYTHING be done for free. What is discussed in PM's is your own private business. Any monetary discussion is up to the members in private. But if you want to throw a freebie to someone, that's okay too!!!
But I wanted to toss a line out to see what I can catch, and if it's worth it, I'll get with the Mod(s) or Ryan and see if we can get it made a sticky post.
Just like myself, I have a mill, lathe, press, shear, but if I need a piece precision ground, I don't know who to ask without just walking into the room and shouting it out to everyone. If there was a list, I could look, see who's got a surface grinder, PM the member to see if he (or she) would be interested in a little side work for some coin, and be done. I would MUCH rather exchange money between members, or even Barter between members if one would choose, than to take my chances with some shop around the next town or whatever.
Think it over guys and let me know what you think. If you think it would be a good idea, then I'll figure out some sort of spreadsheet or chart. Or if you have any ideas to add to it or take away from it, we'll consider every and all ideas and we will move forward.
