What kind of wooden door is that you installed? Ive seen wooden doors take some bad punishment in direct weather, but I've never lived in a hot climate area so I wonder how much worse it gets in those areas.
It looks like it takes some orchestrating to get all those vehicles to location and ready for the show but worth it.
Glad to see the Venturi worked on the vent line.
Greetings from WV USA, with all the twisters that we've been getting over here put a door over that pit and call it a storm shelter. Saw one yesterday that had a sliding steel cover in tracks. That should make the local inspector do a little head scratching! Oops my bad for the late post on the pit.... built mine years ago under the radar so to speak and don't get to see many as nice as yours.
Also looking forward to seeing the finished pit. I've used mine on occasion. Even with a lift there are times it is occupied, so having the pit is still very handy! Mine was built in the early 70's and I can tell it was "hidden" from inspectors as it has an edge all the way around where a 1/2" sheet of plywood was laid and cemented over.
Ahh, the good old days! LOL!
Ed, If you go back to post 300 you will see the finished pit. I just have to work more on the ventilation as the cellar part is having condensation problems.
I'm sure you'll lick the condensation (so to speak), but it'll likely be an ongoing issue, since the temperature change that is causing it is inherent in having a hole in the ground. Mine is also damp and cool, but the PO did lay a couple inches of sawdust in the bottom that helps in a variety of ways: dries up any condensation, soaks up oil and grease, and is very forgiving on the feet!Well I have moved into the extensions and have stuff all over the place. I will hold off with the photos until 1, it is not late in the day 2, not dark and 3 when things look more presentable. I have cleaned up the area I have moved much of the good from and any time soon I can move my Bar Fridge and the comfy chairs to what will become a new social area.
I'm lurking in here too
Coming along really well. I bet you'll be glad when you're finished (if you ever are).![]()
It was very wet up our way too. Heaviest rain we've had in years. The house gutters couldn't cope and the rain was cascading off the roof. All our tanks are well and truly full. I haven't been in the shed yet to see if any water got in.
Fortunately no risk of flooding here as we are on the top of a hill.
Cheers
Michael
I poured a mower strip around the shed after it was built, sure keeps the rain out.
15mm in the gauge so far, drizzling now and looks like its set in for the day. The shed is nice and dry, A/C on to take the chill off, my wife is away for the day = quality shed time and work on the Model A
Moving day (or week, or month as the case may be) - what fun! You'll have that place feeling like home in no time. I have a feeling one could spend hours just exploring all the odds and ends you will have on display.![]()
Great build, I am surprised you did not insulate, the exterior walls. Your condensation in the pit, may be related to not insulating the building?
The reason, I say this is, I built a all steel building like yours, with 3 rows of block set on a concrete slab.
At night the cool air condenses and makes the block and floor damp.
To remedy this, I will have to spray foam the inside of the steel walls.
Dave
Another option for you may a waterproof paint, like Dry Lock paint, for the block walls and epoxy for the floor.
Also do you have a fresh air intake for the pit? If not, you could use a core drill and bore threw the block and fill just under the floor, and vent out to the exterior wall.
Dave
It would be easy to try. As long as the holes are not to big to get caught in it could work. Thanks for the idea I can easily try that.![]()

Could you not cut the pipe back to the blockwork, do away with the wooden block and screw the fan directly to the wall where it'll be more out of the way?
