I posted this on R3V, but thought would share here since there have been so many exhaust builds.
---------------------------------------------
My old exhaust was a rusty pile when I got it. I finally got sick of it and decided to make my own to replace it
- aluminized steel
- 2.5" single so I can go turbo later (I know everyone says 3" but I don't care, I don't want a 3" exhaust)
- made my own 2 into 1 collector cause I'm cheap
- 50 series Flowmaster (delta flow) cause it's "quieter"
- Summit cat
- All tig welded cause I'm still practicing on my new syncrowave and need to start doing less aluminum
Pics:
The muffler fell off when I pulled it apart
Jigged up the flanges before I cut the crappy welded o2 sensor off so I didn't have to test fit on the car, all on the bench instead
Mocking up the scraps
Cut, trim, weld. This actually turned out pretty good.
Down pipe all done
Fitup of the front half
Split the halves with a v band flange
Stainless welds nice
Two halves complete
Made some tips with leftover scrap. Had to mig weld since I rand outa argon at 3am
Tips fitup well
I spent a long time fitting this thing up nice a tight to the body all the way back cause I always hit stuff around town. There is a finger thickness gap at the tightest spots and the fitup is great. I reused all the factory mounting points and brackets. Sure enough on the way to work I ran over a dead animal and there were guts all over the bottom of my car but the exhaust was OK.
Sound is great.8)
