Ridgid Rip-Off

I am a small General Contracotr in Northern New Jersey. Business is as usual and trying to stay atop of the faltering ecconemy. Work hard and when a company like Ridgid gives you the run-A-round it takes your faith out of that company you have trusted in that you have purchase alot of tools from. I have contacted Ridgid 12 times in my concern for my replacement batteries li 24 volt. I have ben transfurred almost each time or disconected to na advail. Then they tell me I am not registered of which I am. I asked to be connected to the Mgr. of customer service and was flat out told no. They keep connecting me to a excuse maker in the warentee dept. I am discusted with Ridgid cordless tools and more-so with the company. Consumer/Traidsman : Beware.

I assume you're talking about the power tools sold through Home Depot?
I've used their hand tools for years and I love them. Made here in Northeast Ohio.

You may be better served by introducing yourself and asking for advice rather then slamming a reputable company in the hopes that we believe you took the time to register.

I love the products but i also never had to warranty anything i thought i read somewhere that the warranty only covers the batteries that come in your kit i could be wrong but maybe thats the problem

Yes cordless powertools we have ridgid plumming tools and they are simply the best in most cases and this does not pertain to them

You may be better served by introducing yourself and asking for advice rather then slamming a reputable company in the hopes that we believe you took the time to register.

Not trying to convince anyone here that I registered them only specifieing my lack of faith in this company for not doing the rite thing. We have easily $25,000.00 in Hilty and Milwaukee tools, far removed than that of larger contractors but never the less a significant amount. We have always be well served in any warentee claim we have EVER had with these companies also to include makita and dewalt. We service most all of our own tools. we have only had 3 or maby 4 claims to these companies in over 30 years and RIDGID is the only one to not stand behind their product. And for the record our Ridged tools are registered. Thank you, Mark

we have 4 batteries 24v and 2 of them were part of a kit if I recall.

I own a bunch of Ridgid pipe cutters and pipe wrenches that have been passed down to me by deceased relatives, but I've never purchased any of their power tools. Their hand tools are wonderful. Seems every time I like one of their options, there is another brand that is a bit better for the same price or marginally more money. Their 12 CSMS looked solid, and I really dig the barrel design of the Fuego jig saw even though the reviews are less than stellar.

I seem to recall reading on the GJ that the op is not the first one to complain about the free battery for life deal. Maybe some other members can chime in with their stories; I seem to remember them saying if you did not cross your T's and dot your I's on the paperwork you were **** out of luck is that really the case????

I would think they would want to keep you coming back for life not trying to scare you away from ever buying their tools.

I have a bunch of the power tools both corded and cordless and couldn't be happier. I did have one battery that didn't last as long as you would expect but I never registered it anyway. I find warranty to be mostly a waste of time and paper.

While I don't work as a contractor that uses these tools throughout each workday I have two Rigid routers and a drill/impact driver combo set and have had no issues.

I have a Ridgid cordless drill that I bought at HD. The battery charger failed. I had everything registered with Ridgid so I called customer service. They told me I had to deal with one of their service centers so I took all the pieces to Tools-r-Us in Montclair, CA. It took them FOUR MONTHS to get back to me and in the end they gave me 2 new batteries and a new charger. Not sure who was dragging their feet but I won't be buying any more Ridgid cordless tools, lifetime warranty or not!

I have a 12v impact. One battery stopped working after 15 months. Called CS the only way I could get it replaced was to bring it to a service center 2 hours away.

Went to HD and complained to the manager. Supposedly they can get it replaced but I have to bring in the battery, impact and charger and leave it there and they'll get back to me. That was 6 months ago haven't bothered to bring it in yet -- waiting for the second battery to go bad.

You're kidding right? 4 months....I don't know what kind of time you have, but I have a lot of work to get done with my tools in 4 months.

I had very short life from some 18v Ridgid batteries in my cordless drill. One 5 cell and one 10. The 5 cell one didn't work at all, the 10 cell would work the drill for only about 2 minutes. I hadn't registered them, so I just replaced the cells with the batteries from the packs out of old IBM laptops that I had on hand.

You have to register you tools. Prior. Do that and they are easy to deal with. Don't do want is required and why would you expect them to work with you. This prevents pre owned tools from being bought and traded in.

I had a battery go bad after 2 years of service (12v). Contacted customer service and was referred to a service center. 5 Days later I was told to come pick up the new battery. The service center was also where I needed to bring in my Milwaukee router for service as well.

No personal experience, but my dad has a bunch of the 24V stuff he's had for a few years. He bought them for the lifetime battery warranty, like many did. He's told me he won't be buying any more, and will be switching brands. He said the batteries die almost religiously right around a year, and it's become a bigger PITA to get them swapped out, even though he did whatever he was supposed to when they started the registration deal. Honestly if you're making money with them but don't have enough batteries to wait until a few die to send/bring them in in bulk, you're probably losing more in lost time/mileage/shipping to try to warranty them rather than buying new batteries every few years.

To the OP:
What is your first language, because it is obviously NOT English.

To him and everyone else:
I have stated on here time and again that we (where I work) used to be a Ridgid service center. So did a couple of other tool places in the area. None of us are anymore because Ridgid just does not like to pay warranty claims and the amounts they are willing to pay are not sufficient.

There are NO Ridgid/Ryobi power tool service centers in the greater New Orleans area. If you have one near you, consider yourself lucky. There are no "factory" Ridgid service centers, they depend on a network of independent repair shops to honor their warranty.

In case you haven't figured it out, the Ridge Tool Company that we admire just sells their name to TTI to use on the Chinese tools produced by them.
