Thomas, Every time I log on and play catch up it's totally informative, entertaining and more. I recall using a spark plug cleaner as a Texaco gas station pump jockey and rack man in the late '60's. I hope the clutch issues go away with the replacement units and the tech advise they gave you, as it does makes sense. The seat frames for the '66 look sooo good, it's too bad to hide them. The John Deere is amazing looking. Safe travels! Dennis

Hello Thomas !
Great stuff as always !
Are you going to the Bloomington Gold at the Assembly Hall next weekend ?
Hope to see you soon , London is anxious to climb any gravel piles you might have sitting around !

Craig

Thanks Craig, sorry I missed you when you were in Phlio last week. You would have gotten a preview of some shop additions.

Yes I will be at Bloomington Gold all 3 days, wouldn't miss it for anything. It doesn't hurt one bit either that it's only 11 miles away. :)

http://www.bloomingtongold.com/

I'm also planning on going on the Corvette Gold Tour Cruise Saturday night. It set a Guinness World Record for Corvettes one year with over 2,000+ Corvettes and they're trying to break it this year. The idea is to just have some fun and the weather looks perfect for the whole show. Sunny and dry with high 70's to low 80's in the day and mid to low 60's at night. Thursday evening we're have a little Pre-Bloomington Gold cookout at the shop with a few Corvettes scattered about the property.

Tell London I still have the Nova she gave me and kept the ribbon too! I have two rock piles waiting just for her. ;)

Everything I look at this thread, I am just so impressed . Amazing work you have transformed that garage into a working piece of art.

I have family in Peoria, do you give tours? :lol_hitti

Thomas.....sorry to hear about your misfortune at the races. I did do a search for DXF pressure plate problems just for curiosity and you aren't the only one having shifting problems.

Thanks Kevin for all the links. I've yet to find a consensus on this. Ask 10 guys and you get 10 different answers. Clutch set ups seem to be all black magic. :willy_nil

What fun for all of your Corvette friends and to be so close to the Bloomington Gold event!

Wife took me to this event back in 2002 for my 50th birthday. Safe to say that I had a great time looking at all the cars and attending many of the classes that were offered. Of course the highlight of the time spent there was coming home with this car, that is to say, having it shipped to our home here in the PacNoWest:

I was so excited to get this car delivered. Think that I bugged the car hauler driver a bit too much because when he finally arrived at our home, he asked if I was the proud owner of the tan colored '63 Jeep Wagon...... He must have loved the look on my face.

Have a great time!

Ody - By chance, is that pic on Chuckanut Drive? I was out there last year, first time Ive ever driven the length of it and honestly think its by far the most beautiful (and scarey) stretch of road Ive ever seen.

Only thing I can say about that car is WOW...not a bad location to live in either

Thanks, Bumpy55!

Actually, my front yard, but you are right about Chuckanut Drive. It is beautiful and there is a great restaurant along the way. Next time out, have some of the local oysters there. Then come over to the Olympic Peninsula for more wonderful roads and scenery.

My apologies to both Thomas and Chris for this little hijack... And, when you guys hit the road, try to make it out to this great part of our country.

Hello zkling and I thank you for those kind words. The operative word there about the garage is working as in - that's what I do out there. :) Chris finally pried me out of there at 8:00PM tonight. I completely lose track of time when I'm there.

Do I give tours....all the time. Next time you're visiting your Peoria family you'll see you're only 1 1/2 hours away. Send me a PM and we'll try to set it up.

Ody your '63 is simply stunning as is your front yard! Very nice. Are you aware that '63's are the feature Bloomington Gold Corvette this year in honor of their 50th birthday? You still have time to do a road trip out here and you can swing by the shop as well! What a deal! Looking at your car it's so very hard to believe it's already 50 years old. It will still look fabulous when it's 100 years old, a true timeless classic.

When Chris and I start our road trips you can bet we'll be out your way. Trust me, I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Todays shop activity was getting ready for Bloomington Gold.

That gave me an excuse to use the Walker floor jack.

I was putting new wheels and tires on the car...

...so I wanted to clean up the hubs and calipers a little before hand.

Next I used the old Rotary Lift to do the oil change.

That lift really suits old cars parked on it. Turn the picture black and white...

... and it'd be hard to date it. Circa 1966? :dunno:

Once all done underneath...

...I gave the rest of it a lick and a promise so I'm pretty well good to go now. It's been quite nice using the shop for its intended purpose, working on cars. ;) Thanks everyone.

Thomas,

Your Roadster looks beautiful and it is clearly evident that you have spent some hours getting the car ready for the Bloomington event. Wish you well on receiving your BG Gold Certificate!

We have a '65 BB Coupe that went through this same process, although, quite a number of years ago (June 1986) and at that time, under the ownership of Rick Race. Lucky for me, all the BG documentation along with the certificate of "Bloomington Gold" came with this car as well as vintage NCRS Top Flight Certificates. You might recognize this car as well, that is, if you have the "63-67 Corvette Fact Book" authored by Dr. Dobbins. He owned this car for many years and used it as the color center piece in his book.

Recently put the car through the local chapter of NCRS and did get the Top Flight award after several attempts and lots of hours refreshing the car. A great group of people and great cars!

Again, hope you both have a wonderful time there.

Ody.

You are right - the B&W photo looks very retro with the Sun Machine, lift and oil catches! I can - almost - imagine Mr Johnson standing under the Vette.... moreso if I imagine about 30 years worth of old parts and peices surrounding him!! ;)

Thomas, I just finished reading this great story on another forum I frequent and as I read it, I immediately thought of all the folks that frequent this thread as well as your beautiful Corvette. I hope you don't mind my sharing it here.

It is a story about a small Midwestern Chevrolet dealership in Nebraska - Lambrecht Chevrolet. It grew from a 16 car per year lot during WWII and finally closed in 1996 when the husband/wife owners, Ray and Mildred Lambrecht finally decided it was time to retire at the ages of 78 and 75. At the age of 95, Ray has finally decided to liquidate his entire inventory that includes many "new" old models - over 500 vehicles in total.

A few examples:

1958 Chevrolet Cameo pick-up with 1 mile on the odo
1959 Bel Air sedan, 1 mile clocked
1965 Bel Air wagon, a whopping 5 miles
1975 Caprice with 7 miles
1978 Malibu, 11 miles
1969 Cheyenne pick-up, 4 miles

The following link is to a story that was written by Ray and Mildred's daughter. It will take you back to a time when dealerships were more interested in creating lifelong relationships with customers through good honest deals than they were in simply making the sale. Again, I hope I'm not cluttering your thread, but I'm confident many who frequent here will enjoy reading this interesting story.

Of course I don't mind Firefighter315. In fact here's a related video about this very story that I'm sure everyone will want to see. Turn your speakers up.

Thank you for posting about the story, I hadn't seen that. You and others posting this type of information makes this thread diverse but still interesting.

I was not aware of that (and I'm selling one, might be good place to bring it), I am aware they moved the show which was 20 minutes away from me to 3 hours away and now I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go or not, damn it. Plus the small engine featuring IH show is in Sandwich this weekend as well some killer tool auctions.

Wow... If I had the time and money it would be worth it to go to the auction just to sit & watch the cars get rolled out for the auction..

Hello zkling . The operative word there about the garage is working as in - that's what I do out there. :)

And that is exactly what makes it so cool to me. Is that you actually use the items to their full capacity. It is not just for looks. I mean don't get me wrong it looks fantastic as is, but add in the fact that you use the items like they were designed decades ago and WOW, I'm drooling.

Do I give tours....all the time. Next time you're visiting your Peoria family you'll see you're only 1 1/2 hours away. Send me a PM and we'll try to set it up.

I just may have to take you up on that in the future. I take 74 west to Peoria from Indy, so I usually pass right through Bloomington. Pretty familiar with the area actually. I would probably have to bring my 90 year old grand father though, that man knows how to tune a carburetor. However he will more than likely talk your ear off about "Back in the day" or WWII stories :eyecrazy:

Tool box is only thing that give that B/W pic away.. very cool :)

:+1: I understand the practicality of the newer, larger ball bearing boxes. But it just doesn't look right compared to everything else. A nice mid 60's snap on box would just feel so much more at home in that picture.

Thank you Chris & Thomas for a great relaxing tour of the shop and the chance to share some time together. I so enjoyed talking about children, teaching, cars, and life in general --Oh, and Hans Norberg also. It was so great to meet friends of his. I also appreciated chatting about the old days of GM with John. What a hoot. Today Corvette blogs are buzzing about how warm and friendly your neighbors were to us Corvette owners, and not just on the road tour. Thanks to y'all.

Life is good

We had lots of fun, Terry. I was so nice meeting you and being able to spend some quality time relaxing, sharing our cars, having great conversations and meals. You're welcome any time - next year maybe come Thursday night for our picnic at the shop to mingle with our friends and neighbors at the shop. We had 11 corvettes - two didn't show up, but hopefully they will next year.

Tom and I had a great time with new and long-time friends, sharing stories and fellowship. It was going to be two days for Tom at Bloomington Gold getting the convertible top on his corvette and doing the road tour. It turned into 4 days of fun, starting with a picnic at our shop for neighbors and corvette owners (with their cars), a free lunch/seminar, meeting lots of new people and ending tonight with having a GJ member (Rick) visit on his cross-country tour in his Cobra. Nice way to end the long weekend. And there wasn't that much food left over! I hope everyone had a good time. We sure did!

Are you guys ever going to buy a 911 Porsche and have events at your shop? I could talked into a long road trip to TCOTU.

Wow, I thought I had this thread finished, then all of a sudden 20 more pages appeared as if by magic. So I did the only thing I could think of, I spent the rest of the day catching up on what had happened since my last time here. But this time, it had to finish on a link to the lambrecht chevrolet dealership auction, so then its more time to watch videos and then inventory list. Of course I had to let a few more people in on all the fun we have, so now I have wasted the whole day without one thing being done in my own garage. I am never going to get done.:lol_hitti

We hope we're an inspiration for you to keep making progress. Don't let us keep you from your projects. We're not going anywhere. Believe me, Tom has more stuff going on to report on! (and you're retired, so no excuses - although I did notice I'm busier in retirement than when I was employed)

Hello Thomas ! Hi Chris !
Apologies for not getting in touch with you Saturday , a certain 8yr old wasn't quite up to being focused on the show and I was too focused on the admission at the gate either !
We wandered a bit around the outlying lots and then went to do a quick side job.
Made it back to Monticello for the cruise through.
Managed to get London to sit through that with a Dairy Queen bribe !
Here they are folks !

^^Yeah, it is - I've been lurking around here for a while. Thomas and Chris are having so much fun that I'm hoping they buy something Teutonic, polish it up a little, and invite all the Pelicans to drive on over to The Center of the Universe! Long drive from Portland, but what else am I doing?
