Anyone make their own Cleaning Supplies? I've been using Rubbing Alcohol for just about everything car, garage, and house related for years. Can anyone else share some tips to their findings?

White vinegar is a great multi-purpose cleaner..and its cheap! Also, check out the thread about using it for rust removal, it does work!

Saw this for removing stains:

1 tsp. Dawn dishwashing detergent
3-4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide
couple tablespoons of baking soda.
Scrub on with a scrubbing brush

CAUTION! Mixing common household items can create deadly gases.

I can't think of any household item that can't be used safely by itself, but I've been told that Clorox and amonia can create deadly phosgene gas. Phosgene was the nasty chemical weapon used in WWI.

I've also read where welding metal that has been sprayed with brake cleaner can cause nerve damage and all sorts of health problems.

Yep . . no use paying exhorbinant prices for 409 or Fantastic when all you need is an old sprayer bottle and mix water with a capful of bleach and couple drops of dishwashing liquid.

Similar thing for window cleaner with some vinegar & ammonia water, and use scrunched up newspapers to dry off windows (this old trick really works).

The TOTALLY SAFE cleaning solution is IONIZED WATER which is what big hotels are using instead of cleaners all together. Machine to create the Ionized Water is expensive, but gallon of "cleaner" (ie ionized water) is only like a quarter or some cheap amount once initial cost of machine is overcome.

Vinegar and ammonia for glass cleaner. They are the main ingredients in windex.
Chlorine bleach is a biocide. Peroxide is an oxidizer. Ammonia with either makes a toxic fume gas.

I just found one a month or so ago that works great. 1/4 cup Dawn dish detergent and 3/4 cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake before spraying. Dollar tree sells a spray bottle for $1.00. Most other stores are $4.00. The mixture is great on very dirty showers and glass shower enclosures. Spray. let it work a few minutes and rinse. We have very hard water here and this seems to work better than any commercial stuff I've ever used. And it leaves the chrome fixtures very clean too!

Professional Dawn dish detergent eats grease and oil. I have used it, straight, as hand cleaner for several years. That and a 3M scratchy pad will remove the most stubborn grease. Mix an ounce or so with a quart of water and use it in a spray bottle. Works great as a general purpose cleaner. I buy two gallon bottles at Sams Club for under $20 and they last me for a couple of years.

This stuff was developed for cleaning birds and sea life after the Exxon Valdez accident.

My wife has formulas for diswashing solution, ( automatic dishwasher) Laundry detergent, fabric softeners and others. All readily available ingredients Go here (diyNatural.com)

I'll definitely give this a shot as we have hard water too.
