Liftmaster 3800 'weak' eyes?

Had a garage door installer put in 2 hi-track doors and 2 liftmaster 3800s. The doors are a little noisy as the sections separate....but the door lifts are pretty quite.

All was good until this weekend. My wife's side, the door would come 1/2 way down, then return up. Talk about annoying. The eyes are aligned, the lights are on...but down halfway, then back up. 10 blinks of the overhead light tells me that the beam was interrupted.

The only thing I notices when the door is moving, is the green LED on the rec. side seems to flicker slightly. maybe that's it.

Anyway, my wife can't open and close the door by hand - -how can I TEMPORARILY, bypass the eyes until the service guy comes out??????

thanks.

If you are talking about the sensors, I believe if you put them facing eachother anywhere like in a corner it will bypass the interution.

track is all solid, no shake. It went from 1 yr. of perfect operation to never going past half way. *****...

problem with moving the sensors is the installer used a million staples to tack down the sensor wires. gonna be a pain to move them. also; the wires go into the sensors with a moulded connection. You can't just pop the sensors off the wires like other models...

Lose connection in the head, those wires are only clipped in place on a terminal block. The motor assembly could vibrate an cause the flicker if the wires are half *** installed. That is where I suggest you look. It is good to be annoid that way you appericate things more when they work.:D

I have to find the manuals, if they even left them. I "paid" so I wouldn't have to deal with the install myself. so much for that plan...... :(

Pressing and holding the button until door closes is one way to get door closed. Sounds like at the halfway point it exceeds the down limit.

The sensors are not aligned properly if the green LED flickers at any point. Re adjust to eliminate the flicker.

Is there a chance by "a year" you mean 3/4 of a year or 1/2 a year? I ask because sometimes the sun can interrupt function of these eyes and if it hasn't been truely a year, it's possible the angle of the sun is now hitting the eyes directly when the door is in it's half way position....maybe?

Other than that, loose wire is probably the culprit. Check for wear and check for proper engagement of the eye wiring on the motor unit.

PS - you should be able to pull the release and lift the door ... it shouldn't be too hard because the 3800 won't lift the door if the spring tension isn't correct.

I had the same exact issue with mine, the flashing lights and going halfway and going back up etc, turned out to be the antenna on the cordless light. It was touching the metal tab/clip where the plastic covers snaps into, the painters had moved it out of their way. make sure yours isn't touching metal, it shorts out the system for some reason. I bent mine out of the way and it's been fine ever since.

all wiring good. antenna clear. spent 1/2 on the phone with tech. support. Holding button down on remote or wall unit will not override the "...obstruction..." stop and reverse function, always at the same point. Tech thinks control board shot. they are sending out a replacement.

I had to replace one of my eyes exactly 53 weeks after it was installed. Exact same symptoms you mentioned. Now all is good.

cable tension... if it's still reversing when holding down the button - it's the cable tension monitor tripping. in other words door needs adjustment, binding on something.
