I'm a bit late with putting up pics of the panel truck i bought in to Australia a couple of months ago so here she is in all her glory. A really good Arizona rust free body but still it needs a full resto, but unfortunately it's about number 18 on the list so not anytime soon.

Also i have been trying to get a sign off one of my mates for about 5 years now and the other day he rang me out of the blue asking if i still wanted it, personally signed boyd coddington sign when he was in Australia back in 2003. I have a fair bit of Boyd coddington items from wheels to signed shirts, beer cans even his funeral ullage and more.

A mate of mine that i gave a sign to recently dropped off this little engine he made at work in his down time. It weighs just under 6 kilograms, solid steel.

So this week i decided to make a set of traffic lights for my self as i purchased 15 sets of just the lights and thought i could make some poles and wire them up.
Hopefully i should have them finished in about 2-3 weeks, i am making 4 complete poles as i have a mate that own's an antique shop that is going to sell the rest for me, i will probably spend the money straight back in his shop but that's ok:D
Anyway this is after folding them up and going threw the process of tacking
and then tig welding them

Finished grinding down the welds and dummy assembly, just waiting on wiring then splash some paint, i am thinking of doing 2 in red and maybe 2 in the the yellow but not sure. I know they are usually yellow but did they ever make traffic lights in red over in America or is that people have just painted them in red?

Top thread Lee. I love the con job you played on us at the beginning. I was thinking "but hey, we can already see inside that shed!". Your humour comes out all through the thread.

the light poles look great. I would say most of the older light were the safety yellow, later they put the flat black on the front around the lights to make them easier to see.
I would say most of the traffic lights are yellow, but the poles they sat on could be any color the city wanted them, green, yellow, I don't remember seeing too many red poles in the U.S., but there could of been some.
I think you could get by with whatever color you desire and it will look fine. I wish you were a closer neighbor I would like a set up like that in my yard. You sure have some cool stuff.

Hey thanks for all the kind words guys, in regard to the traffic poles i have painted three red and i will do the other one yellow. I just have to plastic primer the actual light holders and finish making little hoods for each of them which isn't fun but hopefully the end result will make it worth while.

And i also ventured off onto some more signs for the shed. I have half a dozen mates telling me to just make a couple of extras of what ever i come up with so they can have one as well. I made some of the eyes just on their own and then made sets with a background, the large circle is 1100mm round.

Thanks 1/2 cup, I haven't been in the shed much lately as i have been doing a full resto on a 55 chev pickup for another guy but at his place, 12 hours a day welding grinding and bashing metal around leaves me a bit on the lazy side when i get home but i finally finished the traffic lights and made another moon eyes sign only 550mm for some guys that have smaller sheds.

Nice work on the signs and the light posts.
Having never been to Australia, is there any historic roads or locations or is it just a personal preference with the street signage?

G'day.

I love your shed!

What's the significance of the "eyes" you have been making? They do look kind of cool.

Cheers,

Harry.

Hi akdiesel, thanks for the kind words. I went over to America last year and drove a fair bit of route 66 and also went to las vegas so i just came up with those names for street signs so really it was just personal preference mate. I have some original street signs from the 1920's in California but they are very heavy and the top bit of bar won't hold them straight so i changed to these instead. thanks for looking. lee

HI Harry.

Thanks for the comments mate, with in regards to the eyes, I have been a big fan of Mooneyes products for along time and when i was over in America the wife and i went to the Mooneyes shop to meet all the guys there. Outside their shop they have a large set of eyes which stand probably 6 foot tall which i also want to make a set of, My next sign is going to be a Mr horsepower claysmith cams logo. It will probably take me about a month to complete with the limited time i have lately but i will put some picks up when its complete. cheers lee

Hey Lee
I didn't know your thread existed or I would have been here much sooner
I love your set up and yes we have very similar tastes. Your stop lights are great and your moon eyes look very good are you an artist?
I have a buddy that draws all my stuff.
So like me do you find it harder to get back to working on the cars?
And more enjoyable creating new from old?
You are very good at it. I will be looking in often
Thanks for the heads up.
Don

Do the traffic lights alternate or can you only have one color on at a time ?
I made a Xmas tree some years back and I am still trying to work out how to set the lights in sequence.

There are lots of options available;

1. timer and relay set up.
2. Small logic controller.
3. An irrigation timer switching relays.

Of course a lot of how you set it up and cost would be dependant on the voltages you are intending to run the lights at, with a 240 volt system you would need to comply to AS/NZS 3000:2007 Electrical installation standards, where as a 12 or 24 volt system the standards are not so much of an issue.

All expensive when you have them wired for 240 Volt. At present I have 3 - 240 plugs 1, Pre stage, 2, the Ambers and the 3rd plug as Green & Red.
