What ratchets were these? The 45 tooth models they offer are excellent.

One was a spinflex and the other was a comfort grip, similar to a MAC. The one skipped like a kindergarten gym class from new and the other was broken within a couple months. bought them for work and I don't use ratchets all that often, so it left me with a sour taste, being as I've had craftsman tools last for decades.

How about a hand tool that gets steel 3/16 rivets out of sheet metal without damaging the surface like a chisel! Or a hammer that knows when its going to smack you right in the hand? How about a suction gun that doesnt blow gear oil back in your face? The list goes on lol.

Grainger likes to molest the wallet too :(

That is because they are not a discount retailer that stocks a lot of a few products but stocks a lot of different products on average.

Grainger is not setup for Joe Snuffy the tire kicker browser Lookey Loo.

As mentioned, once you have an account setup or can piggy back on an employers account, the world opens up for you and small orders.

I owned my own company, had an account, and still got the 3rd degree, cold shoulder, and runaround with Grainger. It was easier to deal with McMaster-Carr over the phone, than to go to the Grainger brick and mortar. I'm out of the business now, I can remember my last order from M-C, but I have no idea when I last dealt with Grainger.

Must have been a local or regional thing because my experience is quite different from yours.

Maybe they are going to announce Proto will be sold at Sears or Home depot or ace hardware etc. That would be great for us guys who like to shop at stores and see the tools before we buy.

Probably was...alot of those big chains while are part of the "mother ship" are very much independently managed, experience between one branch and another can be VERY different. I do field service and once needed some tools on the fly, walked into a branch near where I was working and got the 3rd degree, told them to just transfer the stock to my normal branch and I'd deal with my normal peeps...he still didnt believe me, so he called my normal branch and asked "hey I got spudland dave here wanting to transfer this stuff to you blah blah" hung up the phone said "sorry I just had to check it was ok" and after that I got the white glove treatment.

Even on a personal level I love dealing with the industrial supply house...they are the only reasonable place to get abrasives like Metabo grinding wheels and super slicers. One stop shopping.

Actually, even Proto customer service does not know about them yet. I am waiting on pricing before I can add them.

They told me they have to email (I assume marketing) and then they will call me. I am hoping to get info today.

Wow at first I was expecting to be let down, then when I saw that they arent just aircat impacts that say Proto on them I was pleasantly surprised. At least they dont look like the mac guns I know of anyways. I wonder whos manufacturing them.

They're made in Taiwan probably by the same company that makes the Cornwell Power impacts. Similar configuration with the power/reverse switch behind the trigger. The overall design is unique to Stanley companies though. Same impact that MAC has, and I think FACOM and Sidchrome also offer them.

Has their quality gone down or something? Over the years on here they have been a brand people have consistently praised. There used to be a lot of talk about the Big Dawg ratchets, for example.

In my experience, Proto makes top notch tools, I've been very happy with them... I've got older Proto, and new stuff, and it's all been excellent fit, finish, and quality.

I've been dealing with them for 20 years and only had ever had one issue...which after I called the vice-president of the corporation and flipped out on her voicemail, was resolved within 10 minutes and I was treated like a god in that store ever-after.

Yeah the prices are a little high, but they have what I need, when I need it, so who cares?

Same here, up until my recent experience with the ratchets...I've got wrench sets. torque wrenches, 3/4 drive socket set......never had a complaint, but those two ratchets were such **** that it just pissed me off. I've since bought all snap on ratchets and don't plan on switching back any time soon.

Not trying to bash the brand, just giving an honest opinion, based on my last experience with them. Truth be told, I thought they went Chinese and wrote them off.

Those look nice. I love proto stuff. Just bought a big 1/2" socket set and love it. Whats the usable torque on the 1/2" impact? I see break away is higher rated than my mg725! May have to sell it :banghead:

yeah, working tourque would be nice numbers to see. breakaway seems pretty meaningless these days when you compare a few head to head
