What I need is a decent battery pack... I always forget to buy one. Now that I mention it, I'll probably break down and wish I had it when I start driving soon...

welcome to the forum sir! your very close to me. becareful when you start driving. its hellout there. lol. anyway. i carry a old sk 1/2 breaker bar with a full set of lugnut sockets and an old jack handle i cleaned up and painted to use as a cheater pipe for the breaker bar and what ever else i need to smack or pry on. also carry metric craftsman wrench set various sockets and ratchets and extensions in all 3 drives. and various screw drivers flat and phillips. a hammer and a nice set of vice grips, channel locks and long needle nose pliers.

Only the tool kit that comes with the car (two screw drivers, pliers, and a couple of wrenches). I just don't want any added weight or things rattling around.

Then again, I work 4 miles from home and the car we take on road trips is under warranty. None of my cars are that old either so I am at no particular risk to get stranded. I have plenty of tools at home and at work and live and work within 5-10 minutes of virtually all dealers, several garages, tire shops, auto parts stores, walmart, sears, etc.

Joking.... If I know I might be needing tools, like going to a freinds house or to pick something up. I have a small basic kit that will take apart nearly anything. Pliers, adjustable wrench. Off shore 3/8 socket set, 16 or whatever in 1 screwdriver.

The only tool I keep in my car at all times is my safety glasses. I hate when you go somewhere and they give you those windshield sized safety glasses. I impress most when I pull my own safety glasses out.

Thank you for the welcome! You're right about that! You're actually about an hour from me. I know someone who's always out in that area on work. I've never personally been up there, but isn't that farm area? I might be thinking cow-tipping country aka Pottsville lol I've always wanted to live up in area like Pottsville though. I've always had a dream of a garage, acreage and half-dozen of old antique Chevy's & half-dozen classic Mercedes.

I'm not even sure where to begin with this question.

Ok... I have 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" shallow and deep socket sets 4mm to 34mm
with 3 standard ratchets and one 3/8" drive and one 1/2" drive long flex head ratchets.
Plus lots of extensions and UJ's. Set of torx sockets.

Full set of combi spanners 6mm to 32mm, loads of screwdrivers, various pliers and
cutters, hammers, tape, fuses, rags, small trolley jack in a case, a spare battery (really),
emergency light, foot pump, one litre of oil, punches, drifts, vice grips, automotive multimeter,
wire brush... and countless other bit's and bobs.

I realise it seems a bit silly to have all that in my car, but since I was 17... that was the kit
I did all my servicing with and the repairs I could. It's only been the last 6 years that I have
had my little home workshop and fully kitted it out. So I leave my old kit in the car... You
never know...

holy ****! thats alot of stuff. i thought i was bad at times. when i go on vacation wich is usually at least an 8-9 hr one way. this year i did florida over 900 miles. i took my snappy road tote and took 1/2 metric deep impacts took a flip socket breaker bar, my batt operated snappy impact, 3/8 deep/shallow 1/4 deep/shallow all metric, various extensions and ratchets, screwdrivers, various pliers all types, hammers and pry bars, and other random stuff and a kneeling pad thats a life saver on the side of the road.

If OP means original poster (new to forum lingo), I have a 1997 Mercedes C230. It's a little 4-Cylinder. Who doesn't love saving a few bucks on gas, eh? Plan on keeping it for a few years, but debating the next MB. I keep going back-and-forth (maybe an early 90's SL500, quite cheap nowadays)

the 79 was not lifted but it was a big block truck. 396 with a turbo 350 trans. 203 transfercase. truck ended up in florida. kid that bought it rolled it and didn't make it out alive neither did the truck. shame it was a nice truck. I have a 92 k2500 thats lifted 5 in on 33's. thats for sale. i also have a 02 2500hd duramax 4x4.

amen on the starter in a parking lot. i did a starter in my buddy c20 at the gas pump of a wawa in a complete downpour. i also did spark plugs in my 84 s10 in the parking lot of that same wawa at 11pm. fun times.

The list of what I don't carry would be shorter. The back of my super duty is reserved for tools, and survival gear; the front is or sitting. In addition to tools I carry a tow strap, booster pack, jumper cables, tie downs, zip ties, contractor bags, duct tape, tuna, spot locator, trail mix, water, beef jerky, first aid kit, flares (smoke, signal, shooting), fire starter, propane torch, emergency blanket, whistle, signal mirror, compass, gps, parachute cord, kindling, poly tube, and im sure their is something im leaving out.

Roads are dangerous nowadays, you're right about that. What a shame. My father had a K3500 Diesel, I forget what year. Had well over 250.000 miles on it. I'd assume my neighbor has at least 300K on it now. I could swear it was a 92 also, but I'm not sure. Ran great. Someone put Gas in it when they borrowed it , my neighbors brother bleeded all the fuel, luckily it was ok! Those Chevy pickups are Diehards! I love Duramaxes. I found a great quote about Diesels on another forum I browsed awhile ago "if it don't smoke, it's a joke!"

I carry both 1/4 and 3/8 socket sets S.A.E. and metric,a cheap set of S.A.E. and metric comb wrenches,a set of H.F. torx bits for the ratchets, a jump pack, my canvas tote bag with a Fluke meter, screwdrivers pliers crimpers nut drivers and a few stray wrenches. A 36" prybar and hammer. I have a two sided tackle box stocked with duct tape, zip ties, tech screws, wire nuts, crimp connectors, splicing tape and electrical tape. An assortment of machine screws and hardware up to 1/4". Some tie wire and a tow rope with jumper cables and auto fuses paper towels , hand cleaner and gloves. All this fits in my Cutlass trunk. I do some service runs on electrical control systems and like to have what I need on board. My days working on cars and on the farm taught me to load for bear when I go out. My co workers kid me about driving a hardware store.

yup my duramax is a great truck. drives nice and comfortable and gets 20mpg. yeah my 92 has 275,*** on it. still goin.

Here's an older picture of my trunk tool kit. I've since changed a few things around.

Basically, I have sockets, wrenches, ratchets, pliers, screwdrivers and a couple other things. This kit is pretty overkill, I think. And I've actually never used it to fix anything on the car.

What it is useful for is when I'm visiting my mother's house and fixing things for her. I always think "damn, I wish I had brought some tools." Then I remember I did bring some tools, in my trunk tool kit.

My WIFE carries a small, zip close, imitation leather case, with 1/4 and 3/8, SAE and Metric sockets, a 3/8 ratchet and 1/4 spinner handle. I added a pair of vice grips and a screwdriver with interchangeable tips. And a flashlight.
