Turned the front rotors on my 06 Silverado with 56K miles that were pulsating. Pads still had 50% but I dont want to change them when I'm 76 so I put new pads on also. Road test OK!

Tossed my window A/C unit in the garage and fired up 3 fans to finish detailing my GTI. Was a 2 day process. Wash, Iron decontamination, clay, 2 step polish, IPA Wipedown and my 1st time using Opticoat 2.0 Was easy to apply and supposed to last for years, but right now I'm not a fan of it not being slick... It's supposed to get somewhat slick after a couple days, but we'll see. It will be worth it if it cleans and protects as advertised!

Mocked up my narrowed Lincoln axle with Lincoln brakes and spindles, Buick drums and knock off wheels. Turned a spacer to adjust the drum to backing plate relationship. For the mock up I used 46-48 Ford hubs and Trigo KO adapters. Once I have all the relationships established I will order custom knock off hubs.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Ok, some of it was yesterday...

...but I made headway on repairing the trailer I boogered up a couple days ago. Wanted to pull the trailer into the backyard, which requires going through a gate barely wider than the trailer then making a hard turn. I didn't clear it. Busted one tail light and broke off the tail light bracket.

So I beat the side rail back into shape, ground it clean, welded it back on and shot some rattle-can on it. Pondering whether to throw another $6 tail light on, or get a LED set.

See pic. Yes, my welds are hideous... I need practice!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Sunday night at about 8 pm, the wife desides that we need to clean out my garage and make some room in there for me to move around and work. So everything on the floor comes out. By about midnight she comes to realize that this is a bigger project than she had thought it would be. At 430 I sent her to bed. It was after 0700 before I got to bed, good thing I was switching to nightshift on Monday.

Before

During!

Didn't get a pic at the end of the night, I'll get one today. Didn't through everything but made a good size dent in the amount of clutter. I tossed alot of **** and comdensed alot. It felt good to get through some of the clutter. I now have a walkway on the other side of the garage. I haven't had this much space in over 2 years. more to come.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I built this over the weekend, but it took until today to put it to use. It is adjustable in width and length to accommodate other vehicles. The car will be getting a full resto so we opted to do this instead of typical wheel dollies since the car will be without suspension and wheels for a lot of the process:

Very nice. Looks like a great way to keep your project somewhat mobile during the build.

Last night I got the air compressor, air manifold and the air tank mounted in my Jeep for my on-board air system. Tonight I hope to finish it up with the plumbing of the air lines and the electrical.

I started -- and finished!!!* -- a pair of two-tone small block Mopar Performance custom valve covers for a new customer. No pics yet (because I haven't taken any ... too busy workin lol) but I'll hook ya'll up with some powder **** later on. These are the first I've done with a solid tone and a wrinkle, Hemi Orange and Wetstone Black, and they pop pretty nicely.

* Since Billy's father passed away last November and his mother moved in with us, I'm now constantly fighting stupid BS interruptions and am lucky to finish a day's project in a week it seems. For the first time in several months, everybody left me alone and I actually got some work done!!! Of course, it took getting up at 6:05 a.m. and leaving the phone on Do Not Disturb so he and his mom slept in ........ but it WAS nice for a change! :D

Changed the oil in the work car and decided to pull the traction bars off the Lightning. I rarely ever raced it and those bars made it ride so stiff that while they might have helped a little, they killed the ride. The wonderful state of Alabama is firmly committed to letting every road we have go to ****.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I had an almost catastrophic fail on a copper brake line in the first MGA I owned many years ago. Happened on a particularly twisty bit of road on a downhill section with a tight turn at the bottom and a lake just beyond and I was at almost full chat. One of the closest calls I have had, and I had to change my shorts when I got through the corner. I'm not sure if it was original equipment or had been replaced but I was sure to change to steel line after that.:scared:

As MScott, Lippyp, softtailgargage, jp smith and Jim VB have all suggested the rashness of pure copper as brake pipe material I checked with my supplier! The brake lines on my kit car were supplied as proper brake line material and is described as Kunifer! Hopefully, in conjunction with dual circuit brakes I shouldn't be stuffing the 2B through a hedge any time soon (well not through brake failure at least!). Had the car out today after fitting the camber wedges and I'm impressed with the improvement! The work as described, cracking value at £32!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I took the day off just to get caught up on stuff around the house... been a waay to busy summer.
The big project I have right now, is rebuilding my 2003 Yamaha grizzly 660... oil pump went out, burned up, now I'm splitting the case to replace the crank..... almost have it split.
Also, weedwacked the yard while the wife mowed, had to refill string three times.

Yesterday I got the water working to the garage so that's nice. I still have to hook up one toilet, but the other is in place and working along with the two sinks and shower!
Need a cool shower curtain fit for a garage.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finishing the tiny stuff for my shed.

Put indoor out door carpet on top of the OSB that they supplied so it wouldn't chip anymore..

Also put in some shoe trim and painted it red.

Then finally got my angle diamond plate from ebay, cut it down and counter sunk the screws and used it for the front doorway to protect the carpet in the front from stuff going in and out and also from stuff banging into the front. Think it looks nice.

Next I am going to wire up my Solar panel and solar controller with my LED strip lights and then I will have light when needed at night. Can't wait!

Then I'll start hanging stuff and getting the shed to be a proper shed...hahah

Shed? carpet? I think you mean living room. :lol_hitti

That looks great, what do you plan on keeping in there? The white will really help to keep it bright.

Shocker...are you going to put garden tools and a mower in there or are you just going to rent it out as a sleeping room? :dunno: I never saw a "carpeted" shed before.

Any pics of the outside? It looks good from what I can see.:thumbup:

Hey! I got carpet in some parts of my shop too, as well as "anti fatigue" mats in front of the bench. It is a real saver on feet and legs rather than plain concrete. It can help with sound insulation in some places also.

Wrenched on the Vette for a couple hours. Right as I was quitting and going to drain the air compressor the handle on the drain **** broke. Didn't feel like fixing it tonight or holding the pin out the entire time it drained so I took the lazy way out and cleaned up the rest of the garage while it drained.

One tip, just replace the entire drain **** assembly with a 90° elbow followed by a ball valve. Will make draining the comp much less of a chore. I have mine setup with and extended portion on the ball valve handle so I can operate it with my foot. The spiders don't like when I have to put my hand under the compressor and disturb their hard work. :lol_hitti

Thanks Jim!!

This is for all outdoor stuff, lawn mower, string trimmer, leaf blower..etc.

That's a very cool idea, Nigel. Looks great!

Thank you sir!

Do you think that is rigid enough for an entry way? Good idea though and looks great!

Actually I thought that too but this diamond plate is actually decent size thickness and really protects the front should I drop something or bank it. When the doors are shut you can't even see it. Measures 1.5" at each angle. I bought a 72" piece but cut it down to about 64" because that's how wide my door entry is.

Shocker...are you going to put garden tools and a mower in there or are you just going to rent it out as a sleeping room? :dunno: I never saw a "carpeted" shed before.

Kevin,

Most people say the same exact thing when I tell them I put carpet in the shed.. they are like uhh... really??!...hahahah
Yep got some more pics, I was going to make a thread about it shortly once I get everything done but here's a couple.

I won't clutter the thread with all the progress pics, I'll wait and start a new one later.

Without windows:

I decided to try and patch all the nail heads and screws so that when looking at it from the front it was completely seemless... So this is the patch job. Not sure if this is normal behavior or attention to do for a shed but I figure I do it for inside why not do it for outside...lol

I believe this is the first coat of paint. Unfortunately it has to match the siding of the house per HOA.. so it's gotta be this tanish color, Ideally I would have done it green. HOWEVER, I did paint the trim green instead of white since the house trim is white I wanted something different. HOA can tell me to change it and I will simply nod my head and agree and keep looking forward..lol You can also tell the shed is not happy with this bland color because it threw up the color on the grass.

This is the trim painted green. It's much lighter in the picture but in real life it is darker. I also painted the foundation which is hard to see but in the above picture you can tell. I think it looks a little nicer that way and doesn't look so "lifted" in a way. I didn't attach the door hardware yet because the paint was drying.

But yea, first time ever building a shed or anything of this magnatude and I asked MANY questions on here...lol Every seam inside is culked as well. I will take a better picture later but pretty much where wood meets wood looks seemless now as compared to gaps and what not. I think I used a total of 9 tubes of culk..hahah

You know.....Shocker might have read the thread that davesnothere posted about being in the doghouse with his wife and this is just preplanning.

HEY NIGEL.....what do you have under the shingles? Is it 15# felt paper or is it a rubber membrane? The reason I ask is that with the style of roof you put on it, you can end up with leaks. If you look at the high side of the roof, rain can get in UNDER your shingles. Then later on with heat and then cooling, if the nails happen to loosen their grip a little, water makes it's way through and starts leaking at your nails.

I have been trying to find a pic to show you what you need to do to that end and finally found a couple. I'm not sure ( I still haven't had enough coffee) what that style of roof is. I've always called it a shed roof but I'm not sure that is the "proper" name. I had it on my first house where the end of my kitchen roof came out past the rest of the house. You can get a flashing/cap/drip edge that goes over your existing drip edge, or go to Lowes, HD, local lumberyard, and get a different style drip edge that is very wide at the roof side and remove and replace the existing one with it. I'd hate to see you go to all that work and make it nice, just to have leaks.

One thing you will need to do though, is overform whatever you get because most are bent on 90 degree angles. You would need to bed it past the 90 degrees to meet your roof angle.

You could also catch a siding guy in your area, or check out either a plumbing shop or a HVAC place that bends up sheetmetal and have one made. You're all good everywhere else other than the exposed shingle edge on the front.

The last pic shows what I mean. I've looked for 45 minutes and cannot find a good detailed pic, but I think these will give you an idea what I'm trying to convey.

Quick question for you guys.

I don't open that valve up until the air compressor only has about 30 left in the tank. When do you open it up?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Since my Mustang eats brakes on track I finally decided it was time for ducting. I could have simply cut a 3" hole for inlets using a hole saw, but that really doesn't work well to force air into the tube. It works better if the air is "funneled" from a larger opening into a smaller one increasing the velocity. With that in mind, I'm using the plastic lower grill insert as a mold to utilize the empty spaces beside the openings for the radiator.

First up, the angle of the dangle so I can cut the exhaust tubing to use as part of the mold:

IMG_20130713_095559_240_zpsd3cf434f.jpg

After a few attempts I found the correct angle. Here I'm test fitting it to be sure it's right:

IMG_20130713_110159_389_zpsbd98c239.jpg

IMG_20130713_110139_140_zps8c0f808b.jpg

I taped up the lower bumper insert to use as the mold:

IMG_20130713_112814_847_zps8c87b200.jpg

I welded a couple of tabs on the tubing so I could attach it to the bumper insert:

IMG_20130713_120543_699_zps4e669a86.jpg

I decided the foil tape would make a better mold release so I re-taped it and mounted the tubing:

IMG_20130713_123815_886_zps7414a0f5.jpg

I decided to use fleece as opposed to actual fiberglass mat. It can be stretched and forms a nice smooth compound curve with the aid of a few clips:

IMG_20130713_155624_208_zps640a1da0.jpg

IMG_20130713_160216_192_zpse17853f6.jpg

Now it was time for the wet work. I used polyester resin with MEKP catalyst and applied it to the fleece with a paint brush.

IMG_20130713_162505_516_zpsdcf658a0.jpg

Once the resin had hardened I was able to pop it off the mold pretty easily:

IMG_20130713_181739_214_zpsb7de5b70.jpg

Next I taped a line around the perimeter so I could cut the excess away using the Dremel:

IMG_20130713_181746_278_zps706b7e68.jpg

With it all cleaned up it fits the bumper insert pefectly:

IMG_20130713_183838_970_zpsd3f2af35.jpg

I decided it would be easier and look better to leave the honeycomb bars in place. I don't think theire area will block much of the air flow at all. I used a coping saw to cut through the plastic. It took quite a bit of time and effort, but it turned out well.

IMG_20130713_190208_239_zps35bbb3d9.jpg

IMG_20130713_192059_006_zps3fd7f299.jpg

After cleaning everything up it was time to get the inlets mounted on the car along with the modified lower grill.

Driver's side rear view:

IMG_20130718_210048_480_zps19cdf962.jpg

Passenger side rear view :

IMG_20130718_210118_750_zps0807ccde.jpg

Passenger side front view :

IMG_20130718_205939_369_zps7a38b4ea.jpg

Overall front view:

IMG_20130718_205835_305_zpsce5a70eb.jpg

As you can see the inlets are almost invisible unless you know what you are looking for. I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out. Once I connect the high-temp 3" ducting it will be done and I'll will less than $150 in the project compared to a good off-the-shelf kit which ranges from $600-$1500 for the S197 Mustangs.

Usually people open them up after they are done using it to let the water out of the bottom.

I did the mod of putting a 90 degree elbow and ball valve. However, I rarely open it up to let the gas out because I'm lazy and haven't hooked up a hose to put the water somewhere other than straight out at me.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Welded up a replacement battery box for the Cushman. The original was stamped sheet metal and had the bottom entirely rusted away. Someone screwed in a piece of 2x6 with deck screws from the sides as a jury rigged affair. Since this battery is under the cargo deck and usually inaccessible, I decided to weld up a new box with angle iron and sheet metal for something that will last far longer than the vehicle.

Painted it gloss black, installed it in the Cushman.

Took the opportunity to also fabricate and mount an accessory terminal block / jump point above the rear bumper. The nylon/delrin insulator is a cheap $5 cutting board from Walmart cut up to form the pieces. It's bolted to the rear fascia above the rear bumper. The whole thing will be connected to the battery with wire from a sacrificial set of jumper cables.

The exposed terminals are covered with rubber hose currently, but I will be looking for some rubber caps for permanent covers. I've seen them in marine use, so I know they exist. This will give me a nice directly connected spot to hook a jump box to if I need to jumpstart it- which I needed to recently, hence the reason to replace the battery!

Battery box with the external jumper points is brilliant! Maybe I could use that on my shop truck as I'm always rescuing myself and others with it.....
