Framing the ceiling in on a pole shed

Last year I had a 45x56 pole shed built. The trusses are on 8ft centers and designed to hold a ceiling. I am getting ready to insulate the building before winter and am unsure on framing in the ceiling. The plan right now is to use 2x4's on 24in centers then insulate with R38 unfaced and staple 6mil plastic up to hold it in place and act as a vapor barrier. I won't be able to afford to put the steel up this year.

How should I attach the 2x4's to the trusses? Is end nailing one end then toenail or use joice hangers on the other end ok or do I need joice hangers on both sides?

I used joist hangers....Made it much quicker.

If you have a framing nail gun and assistant just toe nail each one otherwise hangers are one man job friendly.

Hangers would be my choice.
But I think 2x4's may be unable to span 8' with sheet rock hanging from them without sagging.

The 2x4's are to support the insulation and give something to attach lights and fans to. Would 2x6's be a better choice?

Even with no load you can only span about 7' with 2x4.

I agree with the others, hangars are the way to go.

I used R panel steel on my barn ceiling. The rafters are on 8 foot centers; I screwed the R panel to the joists and used six inches of loose cellulose for insulation. It's been up for ten years with no problems.

You can attach the metal directly to your trusses. The high rib liner panel can span 10ft. My lights are attached directly to the metal ceiling. I used self tapping screws it worked out great.

Grid and tile. Quick and easy. Allows access to everything above. You can insulate it with batts.

Here's a thought, unless you want the lower ceiling. I had an insulating company come in and do my barn, the ceiling insulation above the white stuff is R 21 and the total cost was $2500 for the ceiling and walls..

I guess I have some ideas to think about now. Here's a question though. How come 2x4's aren't good enough to span 8ft for a ceiling but 5hats what they use for perlins and they are good enough to span 8ft and hold the roof up?

Take a look at some joist and rafter span tables. http://www.mycarpentry.com/rafter-span-tables.html
It all depends on your species of wood and your spacing, 2x4 can span 8ft just fine at 16" oc.

Here is what I did, joist hangers and 2x6 material and bought the air nail gun that works with the joist hangers, to speed up the process. Ceiling for 36x50 building. My poles are 6 1/4 feet on center for more strength. Ceiling joist are 24" on center. I started end nailing as you stated but as a one man show, most of the time, the hangers allowed me to batch my work and able to do things by myself, easier, quicker.

The shop I work at was insulated the same way and it sweats very badly. Its bad enough that you think it has many leaks certain times of the year. Nothing like giving you the feeling like your working in the rain. Maybe it not a problem in your climate but it sure is around here.

I spent good money in having a ridge vent and vented overhangs put on the building to let it breath so a ceiling is a must for me.

I decided to go with 2x6's on 24 in centers. End nailed and use joice hangers where they would be supporting the overhead doors.

Here is the bracket I made so I could put the 2x6's up by myself. I made 6 of them so I could do three at a time to speed up the process.
