I got 2 of the 50 foot reels. Clear plastic with the red lights. Had one bad segment I had to cut out and then spliced the second rope into the first. Pretty easy all the way around.

Ohhhhhhh, sorry. That is a Home Depot special. It has the same red/black coloring that they have on their extension cords I think.

It was easy to place, came with appropriate hardware, and so far it has worked perfectly. I use it a ton and have used nearly the full length a few times when setting up my compound miter saw in the driveway.

Especially for the price, I have found it to be invaluable.

Actually, I rented a house with a 2 car garage prior to building this place. Before that rented a townhouse but just had the Boxster.

I do know of guys in East Coast cities who own condos or town homes and park them in secured garages. Wouldn't be my first choice, but in the big city it might be the best ya got.

mtmd11....As far as the doors rattling when the wind blows, you'll get some of that with not insulated doors. If the top is a tad loose, look at the roller and see if the top one is an adjustable roller. It should be. If it is, you can adjust it to fit a little tighter at the top.

To save yourself some dollars, look into insulating the doors yourself. I painted the inner panels on my doors but all they did to insulate them was add in styrofoam with some sort of plastic coating over it so they are smooth. If anything, put some styrofoam in yours, cover the styro with some pics, then pick up some thin plexiglas and slide into the panels.

Thanks. I have loved the house so far, and the garage has been a huge part of the enjoyment.

I had a pretty clear picture in my mind of what I wanted, after all I've been dreaming of it for a long time, and then finding this website really helped to clarify some of the goals.

Now, the first thing I thought of when I saw the house (besides "nice") was: needs trees. The rope lighting? Needs a valence. The Lamborghini? Need some photo's of it with the wife (or mistress!!)

I have done a bit of landscaping in the front, but the backyard will have to wait until next spring/summer. I have the 3 trees in the front, maples out front and a cherry tree at the corner, but nothing int he back yard.

With the slope at the rear of the property (it's a half acre overall) I plan on a retaining wall and then some landscaping.

I'm not convinced on the valence. I like the exposed lights. In a home-theater or someplace for subtle lighting I would definitely put one up, but I kind of like the brightness in the garage.

Got my first auto project done in the new garage today.
Brake pad and rotor replacement front and rear and bleeding the lines as well. This is on my 2004 Honda Pilot, 141,000 miles.

This is the Mityvac vacuum/bleeding system being used to catch the runoff while pushing the caliper piston open. The tubing and canister were great.

Using the vacuum pump to draw the fluid through the system and into the cannister trap. It looks horrible... almost like used motor oil. The vacuum made it wasy as pie to draw off fluid and not get air in the line. I removed the old fluid in the master cylinder reservoir with fresh and then refilled it after each caliper was bled.

Pictured are some new tools I got fpr the job. The breaker bar was invaluable, and I was amazed how slick the impact screwdriver is. Ratcheted crescents were perfect, and the piston tool was very nice too.

The only problem now is that, when closed, the doors have a small gap at the top (yellow arrows) that rattles in the wind and is an energy leak as far as insulation.

I had the same problem , here's how I fixed it
The door had a half inch gap when closed, I made a little block with half inch material. and put it under the hinge, this way it pushes the top door and there's no more gap when the door is closed.

Good call. The top roller on each side is in fact adjustable, so that is tonight's project. Makes sense they would leave some adjustability to make sure it is a snug fit, I'm just not sure why the overhead door guys didn't do it. The more I had work done on house stuff, the more surprised I was how difficult it is to find really great work/cust service. It's sad.

You seriously read my mind. I'm hoping for a two level paved patio, upper level right off the door then drop down. Have 2 seating areas, one around a table and one around a fire-pit. Some raised planters for flowers and a water feature off to the left, and then a pergola or somesuch for shade over the table. Wow... great minds.

Gorgeous garage! Goes to show, even on the "pricier" of houses, people still cut corners.

I want a 3 car pretty bad, but having a one car attached and then building a two car detached is really more in my budget.

It is a Gladiator (Sears) table. The 6 foot maple top. It is heavy as **** and tough as balls. 6ft Maple

They have 4, 6, and 8ft tables in either bamboo or maple. I found mine for a huge discount because it was 'last years model' at a local Sears.

Look around and you can find good deals.

The power strip along the back is a very nice addition as well.

One thing I found with gladiator stuff is that it goes on and off 'sale' regularly and so you can get really good deals if you wait for a sale and'or buy online.

I am on Lamborghini-talk a fair bit, as well as 6speedonline and Ferrarichat.

Looking at your pic, it is funny how similar our tastes are in the design of our garages. I see the gladiator table and cabinet, extension cord reel, and I love the large 'Lamborhgini' script on the wall. That looks amazing.

It's funny you have the original bumper up on the wall. Mine is in the basement. The guy before me put on the RSC LP560 bumper, and I can't believe how much of a difference it makes.

As for flooring, I would do the epoxy again in a heartbeat. I've been in a few other garages that had epoxy and a few with tile (RaceDeck) and I find the epoxy to be head and shoulders above. I would also rec the DIY system if you have the inclination, as it really is a pretty easy thing to do and will save you a ton.

I second "dubber"s request to see more of your garage and it's history (and future).
