Re: what did you do in your garage today?

My 14 y/o daughter pulled the PS pump off the old 'Burb she putters around our property in. We had a rebuild kit for it so we thought we would have a little Sunday fun fixing that.

Unfortunately some previous owner had used a sledge hammer and C4 to install the pulley. After an hour in the baking sun and stripping out my Blue Point puller, I called it a day. May have to make a pick-a-part trip for a new pump!

Proud of my daughter though, she's getting to be a pretty good wrench.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

My wind mill started making some strange noises over the past week or so
and as I was visiting with one of my buddies I noticed a carriage bolt lying on the ground under the windmill. When I looked up the fan was wabbling badly

The thing stands just under 40 feet high so I needed more than a ladder to get up there so I went to home depot and rented a lift
When I got up to the fan I found that it had thrown several bolts

An hour later all better

Yesterday morning I had an empty bay in the shop so I decided I had better service the wife's Altima and rotate the tires, not sure when I would have an empty bay for the next several weeks. Then the wife and I hopped on the Harley and went for a nice ride. It was nice to relax for a few hours and spend some quality time with her.

worked on the old craftman toolbox yesterday. Once I get the toolbox finished I'll be going through my tools and organize them better.

Cleaned up the threads of the exhaust nuts that screw onto the exhaust stubs on the cylinder heads of my motorcycle. Too many owners neglect those and end up in a world of hurt. They'll get a good coat of anti-seize prior to assembly. These are 22 years old.

I finally got around to installing a filtration system and pressure regulator for my compressor. I still need to attach the drain tubing.

Tore apart a crate that my neighbor gave me. He has a home addition project going on and a claw foot tub came in it. Part of became kindling while the 1/2" OSB will be used when I start on the east side of the garage, framing in the old windows.

Not in the garage , but in the driveway, put on the used rear window regulator and electric motor I picked up this afternoon at the salvage yard in Evansville on the Ol Womans Impala. Got it to go up and down but mosquitos and darkness prevailed so I'll finish up putting the door panel back on tomorrow in the daylight so I can see what to hell I'm doing.

Yesterday, I began disassembling the Frankumbent® to finish up its welds as tac welds held it in place for its maiden voyage. When I finished the disassembly, I decided to put away all the tools/clutter I would not need to finish up the welds before doing the welds, so that took the rest of the night.

The hose arrived today so I was finally able to get out in the shop to finish my brake ducting project on my Mustang.

Here are the final pics:

It's took me a good bit of time to get it all done, but in the end I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out. I have about $150 in this total so I did save a good amount of cash.

Last night I worked on a customers' 1997 Dodge 2500 truck. Replaced the water pump and radiator on a V10. Couldn't finish the job due to realizing it needed an idler pulley so I will be able to finish it up tonight.

Decided to take my top chest off of my work bench, since the only stuff on the top box was wrenches and screw drivers i decided to hang them on the wall to make room, also in the top drawer of the 27" box i made a divider for my drill/driver bits. i picked up a diamond plate fluorescent light for above the bench also.

The Jeep and the Ford made it to the back porch with the help of a neighbor.

Started to finish the welding on the Frankumbent® tonight and ran out of wire!

Ordered some on Amazon and will have it Friday. Would have done the 1 day for $3.99 with prime but I have a wedding to go to Thursday so I'm down a day anyway.

I disassembled and started the restoration of one of two Barracuda front grille assemblies that I've had in line for awhile (the other one he brought me is still attached to the car's front clip LMAO!!).

There's not much to see yet except old blue overspray, some dings, dents, scratched anodizing and faded paint ...

But it'll look pretty sweet when I'm done I hope. This one is going to be mostly a black out rather than my usual factory-style resto. It'll be awhile but I'll show it off when I'm finished.

Wired up lights for my Harbor Freight trailer. Also put a plug on my Blazer to plug the trailer lights into.

So what would you sell one of those benches for ? Not that I'd buy one but curious what kind of money you can get out of something like that. :dunno:

Changed the oil in my truck, cut some 5 gal buckets, bent some rebar and make them into some anchors for some tents.

I have the Jeep one for sale for $325 (craigslist). No bites yet but I can sit on it. I've been selling them to friends and family for around $200

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Wired in a new 220 plug for my big air compressor, played on the new tire changer, finally used my power hacksaw to cut some 6" channel to make brackets for the PTO unit on the Ford tractor. Had none of these in the shop at the first of the month!

Put a couple of cars up for sale.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

During my shift break this week I went 'Hell for leather' on my latest creation.
I have been meaning to get started on this for some time now. My daughter wanted a Cigar box guitar and I was not willing to pay the money that a local guy wanted for the ones he makes.........so......I decided to build one myself.
To do this I needed to be able to thickness some wood down to 3mm (1/8") for the box part. To do this right down to this degree was not practical on my dads thicknesser because it would probably just shatter it into a million pieces. To do it properly first I would need to thickness on a conventional bladed thicknesser and then run it through a drum sander thicknesser.......problem was I didn't have access to one of them.................solution............I need to make one of them too.

Long story short......this is the drumsanding thicknesser that I made this week.

I need to glue the Velcro onto the drum and some paper and sort the wiring and it will be all done.

I have included some pix of the guitar and the carry case.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not today but recently rigged the other truck for trailering. I hate the brake controls under the dash and am always hitting my legs on them. Lots of empty space below the wheel so I recessed it up to the manual lever. It's been in a few weeks and never bumped it once. Out of the way but easy to see and run when needed.

I've never heard of a "Thicknesser" is that like a Planer? Beautiful job on the guitar and case

Thanks for that. Probably just local terminology! It does gauge the thickness of the wood!
As a bonus the guitar actually sounds quite good too! You never can tell until you string em up.

Used to be just called a drum sander, but people realized that they could be set up accurately to give a final thickness along with a good finish, and then sold as such, so the name gradually came into use and then stuck.

I like the simplicity of this one.
