This thread has left me speechless Mark! The garage, the house, the property, ALL of the going projects! Absolutely stunning.

Kudos to you!

thank you very much!!

Mark you need to work on the truck...
shes like a hot girl,if you don't spend time with her
she'll find someone who will.. lol

I know!! I am really eyeballing it right now. It has sat around so long we have decided to cut out the dash and build a full custom one. I really want to get the truck done so I can take it to some shows. Hopefully have it done before the fall and get it to some World of Wheels shows.

Great looking shop. I have been though the entire thread.

My I ask, why you chose a dully LML when you already had the Freightliner? Why not go with a SRW truck, so much easier around town?
I wished I had taken come before pictures of the inside of the 69. The factory dash was pretty cut up and it had a bunch of Autometer Gauges. This were are in the central area of the dash and we needed the space for some additional A/C vents, radio, and the A/C controls. I decided to build a console to house the gauges so here is the progress on it.

The plywood sides will be covered in leather and the top will be painted satin black.

null-177.jpg

I am not feeling the gauge placement at all myself. I too would have put them on the a pillar. Not like you can actually utilize the gauges while driving, with them down low like that.

I like the rear ground effects, will she be flat bottomed as well??

yep, the guy who owns the car is a metal fabricator and it is sporting a full belly pan. I think he wants to go 200 mph:dunno:

Where's the 1400hp coming from?

this crazy V10 twin turbo Viper motor. It was built by some Viper V10 motor guru up in Tampa. I will have to get his name.

That looks wild, i can't wait for this build.

I'll guess a TT Viper V-10. :shocking:

Looks to be a BAD *** project!

you nailed it!!

I got rid of a single rear wheel for the dually. I have a 34 foot flat bed I haul my Bobcat and stuff on and I needed something to pull it around town with. Anyway, I love trucks and to me driving the dually around town is no problem.

I agree and loved the gauge placement on the pillar idea. That was a very clever idea and unfortunately I had already started on the console. The guy who owns the car wanted all the gauges off the dash. What I wanted to do was a fit the aftermarket gauges right in the factory dash which was the best idea but he didnt want it.

^^^ What is that material you used for the top of the console? ^^^

it is a car stereo trick. its MDF rings to fit the gauges, some stretch fabric, and some bondo mixed with fiberglass resin.....I will dig up some photos of us building it if you want.

The most hated console on GJ is almost done:lol: I like the stitching on the sides of the console, the top is the satin black, and I just finished cutting out the trim for the shifter. Its aluminum and I used a scotch brite pad on it and clear coated it. It is not attached yet but I wanted to show you guys a picture.
The ****** brake switch and line lock are the buttons you see.

Not sure about hated ;) I think it looks great - for a custom console. I'm looking to finish up something similar for a 40Ford I'm doing -

I guess it just depends on the look the owner is going for!!

Love the thread. Always entertaining...

Re your offer to find some photos of:

That would be really helpful for another project I am brainstorming.

Looking forward to you pics,

Thanks

wow. I'm tired. I have skimmed through some but have read the majority of this thread. Love the house and the garage. I enjoy seeing your audio systems installed in your cars. I'm a custom car and audio guy myself. I own a car audio and accessories business here in Kansas City. I noticed that a few of your vehicles have alpine and JL. Are those your two favorite brands? I will say they compliment each other nicely.

Here is a big box of stuff.......better known as the parts to make the cowl induction hood work. Not real familiar with the installation but I guess we will figure it out.:dunno:

Did you get that Cowl Induction hood all sort out yet? I'm sure the owner is going to love giving the competition some "flap" for the first time! (I still never get tired of it - although I'm easily amused :))

That is cool your a car audio dealer. I do love JL and Alpine alot!! I have a car audio guy who is working with us on a few projects. Here is a rendering of the interior of the 1966 Nova we are doing. He is going to make this happen for us. He is starting on this tomorrow so we will see where we go.

FROM THIS

Looks pretty cool. I love seeing what other peoples creative minds come up with. Tomorrow I'm working on a 67 GTO that a local body shop just finished putting a new floor in. I'm doing a complete Kenwood system with speakers in the dash, kick panels and rear deck. Also a pair of 10s with two matching amps. Nothing crazy just a good full system to meet the guys tight budget. I do it right they have a couple other cars and big rigs for me too.

Sounds cool man.

Here we are on day one of the Nova interior. Tony started mocking up the dash today. He builts the frame, stretches fabric, bondo, glass, and somehow it turns into something.......

The big accomplishment today was giving the Chevelle a suspension adjustment. This was accomplished by some 3 inch drop springs in the back and some 2 inch drop CPP modular spindles in the front. Wow it looks so nice...........its got "stance"

Okay, I confess; with that new lowered stance, I think I'm becoming a convert to the 'Dark Side' of phat wheels and thin meats. lol

If you have the time, please post a side-on profile shot with the top down. I think that shot will push me over the edge into the 'Chasm of Chrome'!

Dude, your even talking like a low rider:) I knew we would convert you. Here is a side shot with the top up. A lot of guys (the old you) get turned off by the bigger wheels but you would never know by looking at the car there are 20 inch wheels in the back. The bigger wheels look more in proportion to the car. I promise to get a top down photo for you soon. I want to wait until we get the interior in.

Couldn't agree more... can't wait for updates [and some photos].
Bring it on guys...

Thanks

Keep us updated on the dash build looks like a few tricks can be learned here..

Tony was back today to work on the dash. He asked me for the front window seal so he could build the front piece of the new dash. He spent a few hours getting this front piece cut and contoured around the base of the windshield. He then used duraglass to attach all of the wood together and to help mold shapes.

Here is a better picture of the front of the dash after today's work. There will be a center console that will come off the dash and down the center of the car. And yep, the race car is going to have some killer subwoofers in the back.

Looking forward to that pic with the interior done; convertibles are the way to show off a well done interior.

I can't fess up to being a genuine 'homey' but.....

No such thing as a stupid question. The tachometer pulls out, loosen the screw, and the center painted part of the console lifts up and out.;) I have considered myself a "handyman" for quite some time. Anytime I build anything I make sure it is serviceable. Its not a question of if something is going to need repair but when!!

If I could only count the number of vehicles over the years that I have installed huge audio systems into the trunks and the customers doesn't care if they can access the spare or even care to have one at all. I warn them. The best I can do. They always say "I got rode side assistance". I've had a few cars come back that they had to break the box out or whatever. You never seem to get a flat where you'd like to.

I just finished reading this thread from page one. It only took me the better part of 5 days. As much as I regret not finding this site (and this thread) sooner, I have to say that I am simply in awe of everything that I have seen. Mark, your garage, home, lifestyle and passion for autos is something to not only drool over, but respect and use as motivation. You sir ARE living the American dream and I thank you for sharing it with us. Maybe someday you'll get the crazy idea to host another get together and I will definitely be in attendance. In the meantime, if you ever need a temporary hand detailing any of these beauties, I know my way around some wet/dry paper and rotaries and D/A's. I'm glad my first post was here. MORE PICS PLEASE!!

Justin, thank you but we are all living the american dream:thumbup:

Today was a very business day around the Monster Garage. About a month ago I was contacted by a local Corvette club and the gentleman told me a friend of his on the Garage Journal told him about the garage. He asked if he and a few buddies could come by after they have breakfast and we agreed on this Sunday. I wasnt sure whether to expect 4 cars or 15 but we went ahead and spent a few days doing some deep house cleaning in the garage. We had gotten a little behind and it was time. I am outside and I see the first Corvette come in the gate and they kept coming and coming and coming. There were 30 Corvette that showed up and I was so blown away. There was everything from a 1954 Corvette to a brand new Z06. They stayed about an hour and we decided when the weather cools off in October or November we would have a proper gathering which would probably be a good time to have another GJ party!!

Wow...that's great that they contact you for a tour. And no doubt it will probably generate some business also from all of the ones that come to see the garage, or better yet "MARK'S MASSIVE MONSTER MEGA GARAGE"

Looks like you had some rain sprinkles around the 'Vettes. Hopefully you or they didn't get rained out.

Oh that is nice looking!! My buddy who owns the car is more conservative and would end up tearing the car up if he had to manage an air ride system.

Speaking of lower, I was wondering Mark, what kind of air suspension setups do you use on your bagged rides? I have Accuair eLevel (with iLevel) on my Cobra.

I have always used Air Ride Technologies but Accuair is nice stuff too.

Hey guys check out what rolled to the shop today! This bad boy is sporting two 525 cu in EFI motors! Its pretty close to a 100 mph boat. We are putting a sound system in it and Jason the resident air brush guy is touching up the graphics. There are about 20 scratches on this boat and he is going to try to make them disappear. I am thinking we need to take it for a ride when we get done just to test out the paint work and the sound system:thumbup:

IGO2XS, 'The Monster Garage' is quickly becoming a desirable destination for many enthusiasts; so much so that you should really start thinking of having a 'custom' guest register made for the shop. By 'custom' I mean it should have its own special front cover made and a special garage-art pedestal to place it on. The cover should be, what else --- your GJ avatar, of course! It would go very well with your avatar'd 'business cards' stacked above the register on the pedestal. lol

I'm really enjoying my small part in spending your money!

A test run would only be logical and solely to insure you had accomplished the customers wishes...otherwise how can you tell if you can hear the sound system when those two 525's are scream away...of course it would have NOTHING to do with just wanting to go for a sweet ride on the water! :)

Your funny Ompha!! Most people would never admit to associating with me so I am sure this guest register would be blank. Keep trying though, you'll find something for me to waste money on sooner or later:lol_hitti

That is a great idea. I will let you know how it works out!!

I looked back and it has been 3 weeks since I have mentioned the Corvette. It really is hard to post progress pictures of sanding, fiberglass work, bondo, and aligning body panels. It is a tremendous amount of dirty, dusty, hard work. The current state of affairs is the body is back on the frame, shimmed, and is getting re-assembled to get everything lined up. Just finishing the Chevelle which is all metal it is interesting how a Corvette goes back together. It is alot more work.

We had a problem with the driver's door. We already knew it had been hit and someone with little pride in workmanship put it back together with metal, screws, and other various less than acceptable methods. We just couldnt get the door to fit right because the door had been re-skinned and it was not on right. We looked at the possibility of a used door but with prices from $150 to $700 we decided we would stick with our own problem door. if you look carefully you can see the inside of the door is cracked all of the way down the middle. There were patches of fiberglass mat but because they did not bother sanding the door before they applied it we literally pulled it off by hand.

Dwayne pretty much chiseled the door skin off because it was attached by fiberglass resin.

Between removal of the door skin, repairing the door, and re-installing it took almost 2 days. It was finished late today and it looks great. We are hoping at the end of next week to be painting the vette.
