My wife is a tag sale junkie and always amazes me at the stuff she finds.
I gave her a list years ago on what tools to buy (brands/markings) if she ran across them. One was "any vise or C clamp marked made in USA" About three months ago she ran into a Wilton Bullet vise with four inch jaws and bought it for $1. I didn't really do much of anything myself on it except take a fly cutter chip off the anvil section to make it look nice. I brought it to the powder coater I like in South Windsor Ct, Competitive edge. We picked out a color from image searches. I brought the handle assembly and acorn nuts to New England chrome plating in East Hartford. I found new jaws on Ebay for $55 and $5 shipping. Our local heat treater has a $55 lot charge so it didn't make sense to make them from scratch. Oddly enough, two weeks later she found a Wilton "Scout" for a dollar also. I opted to powder coat it because I want to use it and the powder coating will stand up better against solvents and a little heat.

And that vise is really beautiful now. Wish I had one that clean to restore!

Look absolutely amazing!.. my only problem would be: How do you use it without scratching it?

Put it in the living room with a special rectangular steel cut-out as a beverage holder? :D
