Scored this from the pawn shop junk bin. It's a neat little dude so I couldn't resist. It appears to be missing some sort of clamp base and is a USA made Craftsman with the number 524-6-2 cast in it. Anyone know who the manufacturer of this vise was or have a pic of one with the base? I'd like to obtain or fabricate a base for it.

I have one of those in my Craftsman vise family. It did not come with a base- its has a clamp-on attachment with a bracket, a sleeve, and a wing nut and washer. You have most of it. I mounted mine to a block of wood. I use it to hold wire for soldering, and other small jobs. I cannot find a prefix for the model #, so, so far I do not know the manufacturer or date. Will keep looking.

Home run Dumper! You got it. That little clamp shoe may still be in the junk bin at the pawn shop, I'll go back and check now that I know what to look for. But I like your idea on mounting to a block for portable holding work. Did they come in red or did those get painted?

I do not know what the original color was- but I would guess it was gray. Gray seems to be the color they painted their vises back in the late 60s to 70s, when this crown logo was in use. The logo sticker on my vise was so faded, that I had to buy another vise to get a good one! Hahahahaa.

I was going to send a picture yesterday but couldn't find the vise until now:willy_nil

my says 5246-2 and I don't think it has been repainted. I can see evidence of a sticker but it was gone when I picked it up.

"nine4gmcn It belongs in my shop "

nine4gmc,
This doesn't have the crown label on it anymore but you're welcome to it for the postage to send it to you.
