Those damn New Briton and Blackhawk sockets look soo much like the Snap-on's no matter how careful I am I always seem to end up with a couple of them after a day at the sales.

OK a little Google search and this is NOT a Disston hacksaw! It is a No. 6 10" Disston De-horning saw!

I'm not sure that anyone has the answer to that question, or if they do, they're not telling. I've been trying to find out as well.

It has something to do with the change from Moore Drop Forge to Easco to Danaher.

From about 1959 to the late 60's, they used the =V= stamp :)V: for small 1/4" sockets and extensions)

Then Easco took over and from the late 60's(?) to the 80's(?) the -V- codes were used. Part numbers were added after 1974.

For a short time in the 70's(?) I think the =V= came back, but it was short lived.

After 1986 (Danaher) it switched to -G-, and it's variations. Then back to variations and combos of V.

For Craftsman date codes try this thread at the Garage Gazette :

http://www.thegaragegazette.com/index.php?topic=867.0

Thanks for the info!!

yeah Outlaw, it is thrashed. I'll take a closer look at it today. I was so disappointed I left it at my shop- didn't even bring it home. It still goes in and out, and the jaws line up to within a degree or two. All I saw in the murk of the hunt was the long round nose, and an even coat of paint....

still, at $10 it's not bad. Well, ok, it's bad, but I'm telling myself 'lesson learned- don't be blinded by a round nose' :)

After an hour and 1/2 of rooting through 40 some odd bins of tools... I came out with this:

Two Crescent wrenches, a =V= speed handle, another No. 4 wrench, and more =V= wrenches....

83 more =V= Sockets! A ton of duplicates, but at least I now have 1/2 of a 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" sets in =V=!

48 SK Sockets! Left behind a lot of SK Wayne....

an assortment of others...

CMan -V- Metric's and two BE's

7 Bonney's

9 William's

A Herbrand

3 Armstrongs

And 7 Proto's... left behind a lot of Proto Professionals...

...think I'm done for the season, at least a month to figure out whats F/S and what I'm keeping after I clean everything up.

This weekend's pick-ups. Surprisingly all picked up Saturday and today even though I was also making the rounds on the prime day of Friday. You just never know how it is going to work out.

The one sale was the house of a master plumber with a couple of detached garages full of collected/hoarded tools, etc. Sale started yesterday from 7:00 to 5:00 and continued today from 7:00-5:00. Didn't hit it yesterday since I didn't want to fight the crowd and had other places to hit so went to today to see if I could pick up some unique/less common stuff that others over look. I am a cheap bottom feeder

Stuff all over the place and at least 5 guys helping clear/organize/price/scrap everything. Had to make at least 4 rounds of each area because it was still so overwhelming even on the second day. My hands were black by the time I walked out. I like those kinds of sales...... Klein/Hazet/Facom stuff was from that sale.

No suckage but all for very reasonable prices

Keep the post coming folks, enjoying all the posted finds

Klein shears/cutter
Vise-Grips

Time well spent there Rick with all those USA made sockets.

However, gotta know HOW MUCH as big difference between You **** Score versus full retail for used stuff.

Can't earn a You **** award if don't tell GJ what you paid! :D

Slim pickings today. Sundays my only day off to do any digging around. Guy had a CL post for Thurs through Sat, I emailed him last night and he said come on over today.

Just rounding out some stuff I either don't have or lost (like the 1/4 drive 8mm deep, had one disappear on me last week at the shop). Got all of the above for $25, not a you **** deal by any means, but worth it to me given it's all stuff I needed. Craftsman 22mm VA wrench, 1/4 drive 8mm Deep G2, 1/2 drive 5/8 short G2, three piece swivel set, 3/8 down to 1/4 Adapter, and then two MAC adapters, 3/8 up to 1/2" and 1/4 up to 3/8". Happy with todays take.

$50 for the haul, with the promise of giving him the bin back in two weeks...or keeping it in my car in case he pops in my work.

Was starting to run out of money  Weren't the professionals made after Stanley bought them out? I don't collect Waynes and they don't sell as well on the bay... might grab them just because in two weeks.

AAAAACK!!

That was a good 1 1/2 hours spent.
I can't find that many =V= series in 10 places, let alone 1. Up here no-one gives them up.
Did you find any 19/32, 21/32, 25/32 shorts, or the elusive 25/32 deep socket in =V= ?

$40 for all that? I think that is definitely worthy of a "you ****" award.

I like the 30cal crate that the sockets came in. :lol_hitti So much better than a plastic box.

That looks real nice, especially for $25. So basically you bought an electric motor and got a drill press for free?

Nothing on the 32nd's from today's haul... I'll dig out yesterday's haul tomorrow to see if there were any. Unfortunately no deep =V='s to be found...

That jogged my memory, I checked my =V= sockets and sure enough I have a 25/32 deep in nice condition!

Nice
The few that I've seen (including my 2) have had hard lives. For some reason the chrome has trouble holding up on that one socket.

Hoping to make a deal by taking both. Might clean up the tool box then give it to my son who plans to take the entrance exam for electrician school.

Can someone tell me what model the tool box is likely to be?

Perhaps I should have started a new thread....until I bring them home anyways!

Nothing big here just some small things,

I got a small hammer for the popup, 2 1/2" drive extension, a Matco Short Detector, and a interesting Craftsman screwdriver set.

img_0182.jpg

img_0183.jpg

Crowntop mini screw driver set,
img_0184.jpg

missing one of the 6 pieces,

img_0185.jpg

not a bad deal today, I gave $5 for the Matco short detector.

I might sell the crowntop screwdriver just don't know if anyone is interested.

There is a small, low geared electric motor with a shaft that inserts into the back of the weedwacker when you start it. Once the engine is running you remove the starter and go. TroyBilt calls it Jumpstart I think. My brother has the craftsman version, which got me hooked.

OK a little Google search and this is NOT a Disston hacksaw! It is a No. 6 10" Disston De-horning saw!
scary-ghost-face-th.png

From a 1918 Disston Catalog:

attachment.php

HAHA.. I once bought this huge antique "hack saw" at a garage sale for $5. I played around with it and was like "this hack saw *****!". Turned out it was a butchers hack saw for cutting up large carcasses. It just hangs on the wall these days.

Yeah I've got three or four meat saws, but hose I knew what they were when I bought them. This one I was sure was a 10" hack saw, and it can still be used for that with a metal cutting blade installed.

Dang alinc100, nice stuff, no junk there. A 23mm combo wrench? There is something you don't see every day. :lol_hitti

Here are the highlights, other drawers just have some of whats in these.

Great sutff Nine  Don't you just love digging through random bins? It's a new surprise in every box. Screws, plumbing fittings, electrical misc, anchors ,even a gas cap  Looks like they gave you a good variety.

Can someone tell me what model the tool box is likely to be?

Hey Outlander, looks like some nice boxes at fair prices. I could be wrong on this, but I want to say that box is a Snap On KC515 Canadian. I am not real good with the older Canadian boxes, but for some reason that model number comes to mind. :headscrat

Nice stuff jjjrmx5 , Did they threaten you with the "scrap price"
Glad to hear you adopted the set.
