Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Today, I installed 10 soffit vents. This ol' garage had none.

Tomorrow, gable vent with fan.

Temperature permitting of course.

Don't know where you are located, but around here, it's supposed to be fantastic weather for the next few days and low humidity :bounce: Last night we had all the windows open in the house and it made for some great sleeping, unlike the last few years when it was 90 degrees at night

I "inherited" a '67 Mercedes 250SL from my dad and started to rig up a hoist for the hard top. I messed around with an old bike hoist I had but realized that wasn't really going to do it (the hardtop on these things are pretty heavy). It dawned on me I had a vintage block and tackle laying around and it was simple process of taking down the bike hoist, screw in an eye hook to hang the block and tackle. Done.

For the 1st time in the almost 2 years I've owned it and been restoring it, I got to drive my Jeep around the block and make some authentic noise. Woo-hoo

It was kind of a thrill. Alot of work to get to this point, and alot of work ahead, but a big milestone.

North Texas.......100º+ except in the early AM. And recently the humidity was pretty high as well. My eyes are still burning from the sweat dripping into them.

Glass Bead Blasted the Cobra intake, valve covers, and oval air cleaner for the 289 in a 65 Mustang convertible I'm doing.

Now they are in the dishwasher for a final rinse...the cycle should be finished before the wife gets home :scared:

WOW - That's coming along great! When we moved into our current house 22 years ago the previous owner had a Cherokee Laredo just like yours sitting in the driveway. I "not too jokingly" tried to make it part of the deal for the house. No dice ... it was gone when we moved in.

I had a '90 Laredo at the time and have a '95 2 dr. now along with a '03 TJ. I have always liked the the FSJ's though.

I'd venture to say that you had to bend in ways that you haven't had to ben in a while

Now's the time to get out the game of Twister and show them who rules

Replaced a low beam, fog light, and tail light on the moms Subaru outback. And wiper blades. Then I drank a beer and admired my snap on parts washer :)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Do you have any pics of the model A?? I am restoring a 30 roadster.

Cheers
It's a 1931 pickup and is currently torn down to the chassis and parts scattered all over the garage. I am basically starting at the wheels and going up. Rebuilt the water pump as some busy work on a rainy afternoon. It seems like a never ending project.

Mine too, I will update my profile with some pics I due course, the trouble is I have been restoring for that long most of the early pics predate digital cameras.
All the best.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I have four year old and six year old...both girls...The six year old has just about grown out of her toddler bed and my wife asked if I would make them some new beds. I got one headboard and footboard done. I will be making the other one the same as this one. Still have plenty of sanding to do before applying the finish and also have to make the side rails.

1) Cleaned an old 22 we have around :Gun1:

2) Fixed the grill, valves were jammed and it needed a new ignitor :FIREdevil

3) Sorted and organized about 3 1/2 sets of 1/4 drive sockets (Anybody need a spare set?) :dunno:

(Generally just hid from the cranky wife and grouchy teenager)

Some of the pics I have are also pre digital. I need to scan them (another rainy afternoon project LOL). I need to load a few of mine into my profile also. Good luck with your project and keep us posted.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

How much do you think that cost you for the steel?

IONH, more than I wanted to spend as I only needed 50" of channel. I couldn't find a piece of 4" channel in the scrap yard so I had to buy a 20' piece. With the 1 1/2" the total was $68.

Rearranged some things so I could get a second car in there, still not satisfied though so I might go back out tomorrow and rearrange some more.

Sounds like a fair price for that much channel. Too bad you didn't need much of it at all but you'll have it kicking around for the next project.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Saturday was a No Mow, I encountered a little problem.
So today I cleaned up and put away a few things and started a JD experience.
I purchased this JD425 LG tractor new in 1997, it was manufactured 4/96. It currently has 1057 hrs. and the plastic/nylon camshaft timing gear has failed. I just learned about this common failure a few months ago and now I'm having the pleasure of correcting the problem with a new camshaft with a steel gear. There are a few other upgrade/re-engineered parts in the rebuild kit, and the general consensus is the Kawasaki 620D engine will go another 2000 + hrs needing nothing more than regular service.

Ordered the parts and tech. manual online, cracked it open.

Water pump drive gear bit the dust too in the process.

Changed oil and rotated tires on my wife's Rogue. Found tack in one tire of course, so what should have been easy turned into a project...

As for me, I sold a 98 cherokee today that's been taking up space in the garage and being one of the too many projects going on around here.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finally installed the Suncast (made in USA) 50 gallon rain barrel I found on clearance at Lowes a few weeks ago ($16). I created a 20" high, 20" square concrete column using eight solid 4x8x16 concrete blocks, and two 20x20x1.5" pavers to hold it. The goal was to elevate the barrel so that it will flow into a hose or container to use the water around the yard. After completing that task the skies opened up and filled my new barrel to overflowing... Can't complain, I collected 18kWh with my solar panels today too.

I also started shaping the red oak plywood I am using to build a custom table for my 28 gallon Nano-Cube reef tank.

Any pictures of the rain barrel? I've been thinking of doing this for a while now.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Found two active wasp nests in my shed. I am surprised seeing as I closed it in with sofit vents last fall and was expecting to have no bee problems this year. I suspect they are somehow getting in between my drip edge and fascia.

I think I'll try some silicone caulking between the drip edge and fascia to seal it up.

Loaded 800 sqft of pee stained carpeting, 400 sqft of parquet flooring and miles of baseboards to the garage floor waiting for garbage day. Ah the joys of new homeownership. After my first weekend owning my first house, I am physically, emotionally and financially drained.

Anyone wanna come over and help me lay some floors?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

My wife wanted a shoe rack for downstairs because our shoes were gathering in a heap.
Something quick and easy to make.

She had an idea in mind and knew she wanted wood look and slanted shelves.
I came up with the idea of wire closet shelf turned upside down for the shelves.

Used a pre-made shelf from Lowe's for the wood.

Matches the floor and stairs pretty nicely.
Turned out exactly how she had envisioned it.

Yesterday I continued working on cutting out the bench seat for my DIY Recumbent project. Noticed the original blade on my HF vertical/horizontal band saw had finally lost enough teeth to replace. Lasted me a VERY long time. Ordered a couple replacements from Amazon, will have them tomorrow.
